Initial Idea and Repo Creation
Learning Flask and databases. I am learning Flask in Codecademy and logging my hours with Lapse. I learned how to route different URLs to show different website content. I found a good resource to learn SQLite in Python and will start learning that as well.
I have been learning more Flask. I finished a Flask Fundamentals course and started learning Flask templates. I used Claude to make a basic frontend in vanilla HTML (no CSS). After I learn templates and SQLite, I can actually start writing the code. Most of my logged time so far is learning what I need for my project. I have been logging a lot of time in Lapse, but the lapse bug where it duplicates your video eight or so times makes it so that not all of it is logged in Hackatime. At least, I think that that’s why. In reality, I have about an hour and a half more than what the 55 logged minutes say.
Successfully set up a working redirect for the student page. I learned the basics of Flask GET and POST, along with using session to store information for visiting sites on the same session. I have not been following the Codecademy course as much and instead am referring to Google searches for code syntax and explanations as I work. Todo: Set the POST saved variables to the variables that I will use in the final code, learn enough SQLite to do my project...

🚀 Just started working on my first Slack Bot! Today, I officially kicked off my new mission project: a Slack Bot that will be up and running 24/7! I’ve successfully set up the project on Hackatime (slack-bot) and started configuring the deployment settings on Nest. Hit a quick roadblock early on with a Slack OAuth installation error (“slack-bot doesn’t have a bot user to install”), but after diving into the Slack Developer Portal and configuring the App Home features, everything is back on track. Ready to write some code and bring this bot to life! 🔥
🎉 Mission Accomplished: My First Slack Bot is Officially Live! After getting everything configured, I’m super excited to share that my Slack Bot is fully functional and successfully shipped! 🚀 I built a set of slash commands (/fidev) to make the bot interactive and fun. Here is what it can do now: /fidev-ping to check the latency. /fidev-quote to get a daily dose of inspiration (it even greeted me and repeated my message before dropping a great quote by Colin R. Seeing the bot respond instantly in the chat after fixing the earlier setup issues feels amazing. Huge thanks to the community for pointing me in the right direction. Time to move on to the next build! 🤖💻🔥
Fidev Bot: Building the Command Showcase UI 🚀 Today I continued improving my Slack Bot project, Fidev Bot, by building a dedicated UI to showcase the available commands. Previously, the bot was already working with its backend logic, but I wanted to create a better experience for users by providing a clear way to understand what the bot can do before using it in Slack. What I Built I created a modern landing page section that displays all available Slack Bot commands in an organized and interactive layout. Users can now easily see: Available slash commands Command descriptions How each feature works Technical Implementation For the frontend, I used: React Tailwind CSS Modern component-based UI structure I focused on creating a clean developer-tool style interface with: Responsive layouts Simple command cards Developer-friendly design Why I Made This Although the Slack Bot functionality was already running, I realized that good tools also need good documentation and presentation. This UI helps users understand the bot’s capabilities without needing to test every command manually. What’s Next? The next improvement I plan to add is integrating an AI Assistant into Fidev Bot. The goal is to make the bot smarter by allowing users to interact with AI-powered features directly inside Slack, making it more useful as a developer productivity tool.
Fidev Bot: Improving Slack Demo Experience I improved the Fidev Bot demo experience by creating a dedicated Slack channel where users can directly try the bot commands. Previously, the project focused on building the bot functionality and command showcase UI. Now, users can interact with the bot directly inside Slack and test how the commands work. I also made sure the bot is properly connected and ready to be used in a real Slack environment. Next, I will continue improving Fidev Bot by adding more useful commands and integrating an AI Assistant.
Ships:
I built Fidev Bot, a Slack bot designed to provide useful developer commands directly inside Slack. The bot currently supports several slash commands such as /fidev-joke and /fidev-catfact, with more utilities planned in the future. I also created a dedicated landing page to showcase available commands and make the bot easier for users to understand. The most challenging part was connecting the Slack API, handling commands, and making sure the bot could run continuously even when my local machine was offline. I am proud of creating a complete Slack bot system with both backend functionality and a modern frontend interface. To test the project, invite the bot to a Slack workspace and try the available slash commands....

Devlogs:
Network Architecture + Forward Pass Wrote a basic API for modelling the network. When untrained it initializes weights and biases random. With these random values it is already capable of running a forward pass with some input data. Next I want to implement backpropagation so that the network can actually learn patterns in data.
Backpropagation It’s learning! I tried the network with a small synthetic dataset and it learned the pattern flawlessly, at least when you don’t let it run for too long: Below you can see the network’s performance (cost) at each epoch, it starts out strong - reducing the cost and getting better and better - until all of a sudden there is a massive spike and the cost goes way up again. I have no idea why this is happening, but overall I’m extremely happy that the network is learning. Next I’m going to fix this issue and then I want it to predict numbers from the MNIST dataset.
Softmax Activation and Digits I modified the API so that cost and activation functions can easily be changed. After opting for softmax activation at the output layer and changing the cost function to categorical cross-entropy, the model classified the numbers with 85.59% accuracy after 10.000 epochs. I’m surprised it works this well despite the small network and no regularization or tuning at all. While interesting, the math is getting really complicated now, especially deriving the softmax function is still a mystery to me, i had to look up its derivative online. I want to spend some more time understanding how the cost and the activation function “influence” each other before implementing an API to more easily train the network.
Training API + OneHotEncoder Cleaned up a lot of the boilerplate inside main.py . The training loop is now inside the network itself and can be called with a single fit() call handling batching, epochs, and logging: network . fit ( X_train , y_train , learning_rate = 0.1 , batch_size = 0.1 ) I also renamed a few things that were always named imprecisely. run() is now forward() , and the old fit() (which only did a single gradient step) became epoch() . This made the code much easier to read. The one-hot encoding is now its own class instead of a one-liner scattered in main.py. This was necessary because you need to decode predictions back to the original labels afterwards: encoder = OneHotEncoder () y = encoder . encode ( digits . target ) encoder . decode ( network . forward ( X_test )) I also added a train_test_split utility so I don’t have to manually slice arrays anymore.
Demo + Readme The network is fully working, however its difficult to see it in action. That’s why (with the help of Claude) I created a Streamlit app, so that you can try different parameters for the network in the browser. Without having to install anything locally. I also spent some time making the readme prettier and more informative.

The Ground Wasn’t. websocket closed unexpectedly websocket: close 4017: E2EE/DAVE protocol required That’s the line my terminal spit out that marked the end of my very first devlog. Nothing wrong with my syntax, no bad token, no accidentally deleted code. Everything should’ve been going great until Discord’s servers slammed the door shut on every attempt to join a voice channel. Why? I’ll get to that. But first, some context. What is Verbosity? Verbosity is a lightweight, self-hosted voice moderation bot for Discord. The kind of specialised, efficient machine you could run at home on a Raspberry Pi or small VPS without needing to destroy a small town’s water supply by using a data centre and a hundred GPUs. The core idea is that Discord text moderation is very oversaturated, while voice moderation is practically a ghost town. Normally, you’d have to hope a moderator is already in the voice channel to witness someone’s misconduct. That’s where Verbosity comes in: it keeps a constantly overwriting 30-second rolling buffer of audio for every speaker. Nothing is permanently recorded, and the bot is open source. If a moderator runs /clip, or an automated trigger fires (like someone yelling slurs or blasting extremely loud audio), a clip is pulled from the buffer and saved much like saving footage from a dashcam. Otherwise, it just rolls over and disappears. No cloud APIs, third parties, etc. Just efficient local processing and a buffer that’s always recording only the last 30 seconds. That said, today was supposed to be the boring part: get the bot online, responding to slash commands, and make sure the skeleton worked. It mostly did. Right up until it didn’t. The boring (but important) part: Every feature this bot will eventually have (/clip, /protect, etc.) will arrive as a slash command. Before any of that exists, there needs to be a clean, obvious place where commands get registered/routed. If I get this wrong now, the project will become a mess later as every new command turns into a special case. If I get it right, every new command should mostly be a matter of adding another entry to a table or switch statement. So I started by cooking up ping, join, and leave. /ping came first and replied instantly - great! The first real proof the bot was alive and listening. /join was the more pressing matter because it’s the doorway to all of Verbosity. Every audio frame the bot will ever process starts with joining a voice channel. Fail = no bot. Success = everything else becomes possible. First Lesson: Discord is impatient The first lesson - and a useful one if you’re doing anything with Discord’s interaction API - is that slash commands must send an initial response within 3 seconds or Discord shows the user the gloomy little “This application did not respond” message. /join has to open a voice gateway connection and a UDP socket, and it’s perfectly normal for that to take longer than three seconds. The fix is a deferred response: acknowledge the command immediately with something like “Verbosity is thinking…”, then send the real answer once the slow work finishes. Discord then gives you a generous 15-minute window to send the real response. Second Lesson: Door Slam 4017: E2EE/DAVE protocol required A 4017 close code doesn’t mean my code is flawed - it means Discord’s voice servers don’t recognise the protocol being used. The reason is a platform change. Back in March, Discord made DAVE (its end-to-end voice encryption protocol) mandatory for all bots. Older libraries, like discordgo (which I’m using), don’t support DAVE. So I’ll have to pivot and use something like disgo + godave to fix this in devlog #2. Devlogs:
I created the basis of the clipboard, overiding duplicates, adding a nice aesthetic and consolidating the foundation of DuckyPaste.
Created a json saving and loading system so you can close down the application and still have the clipboard saved. Added a search bar and pinning button, search bar functionality is added while pinning is not. More to come!
Added a working delete button and fixed a few bugs associated with the search bar and the history array, soon to be finalised
Implemented a tray icon with a show and quit button, so it runs in the background and picks up on your clipboard when it’s merely running as a task. I also fixed the pinning button, so when pinned, the entry adds a pin emoji 📌 and places it at the top of the list. Release 1.0 is being shipped soon….

I started with the KMK firmware and wrote the keymap for the Seeeduino XIAO. I set up three inputs on D10, D9, and D8, then assigned macros to each key: an if/else block, a for loop, and a debug print statement. The macros are designed to insert the full snippet and move the cursor into the correct position inside the code. After firmware, I moved to the PCB design in KiCad. I created a simple schematic (following the tutorial) using the XIAO and three push buttons, then routed the connections directly to the GPIO pins used in the firmware. Finally, I designed a basic 3D case with a top and bottom shell. The case was modeled around the PCB footprint, with cutouts for the switches and USB port, and basic tolerances for fit. It was annoying that the plate generator wouldn’t generate the correct size that would fit with the rest of my build, so I resized it and broke it into and extra piece for simplicity. At the end, I organized everything into the required repository structure, including firmware, PCB files, and CAD exports. I’m rlly proud of this project, and hope that I can use it to create other projects too! :)"}]...
