Devlogs:
I added a shop managment panel and am currently working on adding shop item variants so users can e.g. select different colors for an item As always the backend is way nicer to work with than the frontend. I hate react
I finished the new shop item variant system. Admins can now create new options on already existing items or create new items with multiple options. I also updated the item buying page to let the user select (see below)
added a little “My orders” page so participants can have a look at their orders
I started redesigning and refactoring the review panel. The previous UI was AI generated and looked bad. To be quite honest I don’t really like the Jus’Study theme so far so I tried making the best of it with the review panel and actual put some thought into the design. In the next couple of days I will try to add some more features as well to make the update not only cosmetic. I might look into AI for this in the future, but I find my human-written code to be more aesthetic (when I am trying atleast)
Today I finished up the review redesign and added a project-lock feature. I have never been so frustrated with React like today. The dialog you can see in the screenshot was a pain to get working using the <dialog> tag. React for some reason doesn’t implement the button attributes necessary for opening and closing dialogs without javascript. And the way state is controlled for dialogs in React sucks and I had to use refs.
Time tracking rework and Hackatime OAuth Integration I am currently reworking the entire way time is tracked for jus’study. Beforehand the time was tracked in the devlog database table. This now introduces a bunch of problems if you want to for example alter that data. Because of that the idea is to move to a design that I call “time ledger”. Basically any “event” like adding a devlog adds a duration (can be negative to subtract). This way it is way more extensible. Oh yeah and I made an integration for hackatime oauth. Right now I am trying to write sql-migrations so that I can migrate to the new database schema without deleting everything.
Time tracking rework - Part 2 this was basically changing all the old code out to work with the new time entries. I will have to figure out a cleaner way to get time per ship. but for now it works.
API Docs I annotated the about 50 api routes and setup Scalar to show the api docs
Regional Pricing in Shop I am not finished yet but well as I forgot to log before 10h I guess I will have to post an update. I am currently finishing up regional pricing as a new feature for the shop. This way we will be able to change pricing depending on the regions products get shipped to.
Regional Pricing in Shop Pt.2 I finished up the regional pricing thing. It was mostly just refactoring the frontend and getting yelled at by error messages.
Slack Bot Integration and some other stuff
Bug fixing because human slop also creates bugs. There were bugs to let users change their balance, typos, race-conditions etc.
Yet more backend fixes Learning no. 1 of the day: Writing safe database queries with no race-conditions is really hard. Most of the fixes today where fixing some database/transaction related things. I also added a way to validate environment variables on start up since with the sheer amount of variables now it seems necessary. I am really happy with my current “use AI to review” workflow. I am actually learning quite a bit about how transactions work etc.
Observability Overhaul I am not finished yet, but I am overhauling the entire observability structure. It is way overkill for this small ysws but I wanted to try anyway. The observability stack will now use OpenTelemetry with Grafana Alloy as a Collector. That then gets forwarded to Loki, Prometheus and Tempo. This will enable fancy traces and super cool metrics.
Finishing touches and making it deploy.
Added project banners and an explore page also fixed a bunch of bugs and inconsistencies
Performance improvements (see images for before and after) I am nowhere close to finished with these improvements but the time improvements are massive. From speed index 10.2s to 2.0s added caching and compression for nginx image compression (thanks to the ship feedback) font preloading in html
Double the performance scores than Stardance! (see images) NOTE TO THE NEST DEVS: Please give us users back access to Caddyfile . My whole file compression thing doesn’t work because I don’t have access. Our blocking times are down to <100ms . That IS FAST . (Stardance has about 11x that) Oh and once you are actually on the site, performance gets better too! I have implemented preloading and caching for most of the often visited parts of the site! This was a pain.
Gotta go fast. This final devlog was mainly QoL improvements a lot in terms of performance updates. I also updated the README and did some other nice things. Have a look at the recent devlogs for further infortmation.
Ships:
Getting everything to work on Nest as a demo was tricky but I hope it works now. The biggest challenge by far was getting everything to a production-level grade. I have never had a project that would have many users so adding observability etc. was something new
Final ship for Stardance. Please don’t mind the lack of items in the demo shop. I am already working on the production deployment and therefore did not want to waste too much time on the demo here. What changed this ship: the performance. After starting out with a score of a measly 47/100 for performance. I managed to almost double it in the end to 88/100 . The most stand out features from this batch are; In game overlay engine health warnings for dropped frames, errors and gpu/encoder overoading Library overhaul with sorting and search Per game capture profiles Multi clip stitching for mini “montages” An opt-in instant replay for when the capture engine is stopped but a chosen executable is on, you can still save a 5 min clip (time can be changed) automatic detection for unconfigured games An experimental (but working) browser “mode” for the UI. Instead of a desktop app, the app is in the background and can be controlled through your browser. Screenshots below. And some bugfixes… Updater has been overhauled to be more secure, which led to windows doing windows thing and bricking the whole updater for a bit. This has been fixed and is now working (this is why i recommend stable releases LOL) AMD AMF hardware encoding is now detected properly and wont fallback to h264, like it did most of the time before (though there might be an issue where nvenc can do the same, this is being debugged..) fixed a bug where the microphone input wasnt recorded and the settings disappeared All the changelogs from the nightlies are available on the repo: https://github.com/jssfi/clips Stable v0.5: https://github.com/jssfi/clips/releases/tag/v0.5.0"}, {"post_id": 44848, "ts": "2026-08-10T21:41:49Z", "hours": 0.8294, "text": "Hackclub REAALLYY..doesnt want me to ship without squeeezing every last bit of logged time so okay. Some last minute polishing before shipping! Today has been a sum of; UX changes, UI bug fixes and QOL updates. Also a fix of HDR tomfoolery(again)…Added optional diagnostic tracking for errors (asked at install). Added noise removal on RTX GPU’s and a noise gate. Also fixed a bug where updating fails to update the engine underneath the electron UI…whoops!
Now i REALLY did the finishing touches; Made the updater a bitttt more secure added a browser demo (For the UI, for now) at https://clips.jss.fi/app/ Made the repo public shippin’ now!
Hackclub REAALLYY..doesnt want me to ship without squeeezing every last bit of logged time so okay. Now comply with every (hopefully) 3rd party library license Made audio selection easier to do by letting the user choose an open process from a list (photo below), rather than typing a .exe from the top of your head. shipping now for real haha.
Stable 0.5 is out 🥳 ; since the last devlog there has been…a lot of…lets just say difficulties :D -from github being down today (not that severe) to my updater breaking (twice)..i guess thats what nightlies are for eh? These last 120 ish commits (github says 123 but about half are pure fixes/features etc, the rest are builds etc) have been the most fun ive had making things.. This has been fixed and is now working (this is why i recommend stable releases LOL) AMD AMF hardware encoding is now detected properly and wont fallback to h264, like it did most of the time before (though there might be an issue where nvenc can do the same, this is being debugged..) fixed a bug where the microphone input wasnt recorded and the settings disappeared All the changelogs from the nightlies are available on the repo: https://github.com/jssfi/clips Stable v0.5: https://github.com/jssfi/clips/releases/tag/v0.5.0
Ships:
I made a clipping software for gamers (or ppl who want to record their desktop or excel speedrunning, i dont judge!). I got tired of other clipping softwares not working or being full of ads and paywalls, so I made my own! Thanks to AI, all I need is an idea, patience to debug (using my mediocre coding skills) and a willing test subje- beta tester. Proud to actually do something a bit bigger and something I use EVERRYYYY DAY to capture the best moments while playing with friends (and the bloopers too ofc.) To test my app; UI Web demo -> https://clips.jss.fi/app/ (should work on any device) Download the latest stable -> https://clips.jss.fi/download/ Judge my code and complain about issues -> https://github.com/jssfi/clips Tested working on W11 both on NVIDIA and AMD GPU’s. (3080 Ti and 9060 XT) Humongus thanks to my friend who helped test the app (and then complain when i broke it)...

The list_projects function I had written previously returned project names with a “project.” prefix because that is ho w projects are stored in the config.ini file. Also, the function did not update the config object from the CONFIG_PATH. I fixed both these problems. I wrote another function to get a project’s path given its name. I wrote tests for both list_projects and get_project_path . I started using rich.print and rich.Console.print to make my terminal outputs better. The goal of this project is to write a CLI program that makes it easy for me to journal for my hardware projects in a JOURNAL.md file without having to deal with boilerplate. Up until now, I’ve written a typer app that taken in a project name, path, and journaling content and writes it to a JOURNAL.md file located at said path. This is an extremely simple implementation. I’m choosing to build on this slowly since the last time I tried to code this, things got out of hand pretty fast, and I couldn’t refactor or organize the codebase (if you can call it a codebase, that is). In my previous python projects this year, I’ve been writing my own implementation of config handling, adding features every project. I had planned to branch that off into its own project in the winter, before I realised the configparser package already does that work for you, which is why this project has a config.py file that uses configparser, significantly reducing my workload. I might return to rewriting configparser (or a simpler version of it) some other day. This config file is of type .ini and stores projects in the format f”[projects.{proj_name}]”. As of this devlog, config.py isn’t used in the main CLI. I’m writing tests for my code with pytest. I learnt about fixtures and how I could affect the state of a variable at runtime using monkeypatch (for testing only). Another thing I had to look up was the pathlib.Path.expanduser() function. That came in handy, because I’ll be using paths like ~/macropad and they need to be resolved appropriately."}]...

added music card! fetches data from my last.fm profile through the api displays top 5 artists/albums/tracks from the past week/month/6 months/year unfortunately last.fm changed their api to not fetch artist and track images, and displays a generic star image intead :( I tried to fetch artwork from MusicBrainz with the MBID from Last.fm instead, and it worked, but it was just too slow for me to be satisfied with it. skeleton loader to prevent abrupt size shifting gradient overflow indicators and buttons for scrolling smooth staggered load-in animations with framer motion i’m almost done with the first page now, next i gotta figure out what to do with the rest of the site… if you have any cool ideas lmk 🤠
COMPLETELY overhauled projects page Added most of the models that I designed for 3D printing, each with their name, description, image, and MakerWorld link. Added a very cool (if i do say so myself) toggle for both “sections” that smoothly transition with Framer Motion. KNOWN ISSUES: image preview when clicking on project image is kinda broken, and images still need to be optimised by converting to webp. TODO: add model publishing date, and MakerWorld downloads
Ships:
This project was a refresh of the website I made for myself at 14. I had to spend some time refreshing myself with the code I wrote 2 years ago, but having small things/features to add was a really fun experience. During this event I: Refreshed the bento grid with items that better reflect me right now. I replaced 2 cards with one for my MakerWorld account and one showing my music listening stats. Restyled the navbar with a translucent glass theme inspired by liquid glass. It has no background before scrolling and morphs to a blurred rounded bar when content is under it. redid the projects page to feature my 3d printing projects on MakerWorld, each complete with a link to the model itself. Overall, the site features: discord presence at my name through lanyard api (dnd/idle/online/offline) links to my github, makerworld, discord, and email makerworld stats spotify current listening or last played song music listening stats through lastfm, with options to display top albums/songs/artists tools that I use on a regular basis to do things like this haha code and cad projects command menu (cmd + k) that has a buncha actions you can do with just keyboard shortcuts. very convenient! built on nextjs, with tailwindcss and framer motion for styling. do explore the site, and I hope you like it as much as I enjoyed working on it!...

Imple Title: jcd by @moriaan | Stardance
Devlogs:
Implemented basic functionality (no gui so i just screenshotted the code)
Added subcommands
Added backwards movement with “..”, fixed the init so you can just add ‘eval “$(jcd init)”’ to .zshrc or .bashrc
Add little functions like absolute paths, “-” to go to previous directory, a help message, …
Added a custom alias and a custom back string so you can enter “,” for example to go one directory up instead of “..”
Added a custom matching strictness config option for people who make a lot of typos, readme overhaul
I added support for symlinks that point to directories and updated compatibility so jcd now works with filesystems that don’t support d_type (like XFS) by using c stat as a fallback
The project was kinda messy, so I solved it. I removed a segfault when trying to navigate empty directories, made the error message have cleaner paths when the directory was not found, added malloc checking and clarified an error message further.
Fixed a bug where navigating in a directory with a symlink in the path would automatically resolve the symlink because of the getcwd usage. Now, the PWD environment variable is used with getcwd as a fallback when PWD does not return a valid path.
j - now works again! Also added an option to use getcwd by default instead of the PWD environment variable: jcd init -c . Also fixed a few minor bugs
Ships:
I made a cd alternative. The most challenging part was the memory management and all the segfaults. I’m proud that it is now a robust project with a lot of configuration options, and it’s very easy to set up. To install it, you just have to put the binary in your PATH (or use the aur, .deb, .rpm or .tar.gz version) and add this to .zshrc or .bashrc: eval “$(jcd init)” (optionally with config options). More info in the README.md.
If you’re like me and work a lot in the command line, you know the hassle. cd into a directory - oh, that’s a spelling mistake - and then you have to type the whole command again. jcd solves this by automatically finding the closest match below a certain threshold (configurable of course) and navigating into it. It also works recursively! You don’t even have to write / -es, you can just type space and jcd will read it as a new directory. Of course, such a productivity tool has to be blazingly fast. Well, it’s written in C, that’s not a problem! The hardest part for me was the memory management in C. That took me a while to understand, a lot of trial and error. I like how the project turned out.
