Preprocessing the data is finally over (I really slacked off for a while, bad idea)! This was actually fairly straightforward to do, it’s just that I kept having different ideas on how to implement the model. What I ended up settling on is a XGBoost gradient-boosted tree that predicts the national House lean (even though this will start by predicting Senate races) using three fundamentals, and then it will use a polling aggregate per race that gets more weight as election day nears.
It seems that maybe using a gradient-boosted tree with the limited features I can use with only 12 data points is perhaps a bad idea…. A one-point swing in the generic ballot causes a double-digit swing in the predicted national lean, turning a predicted blue wave into a comfortable Republican win.
Well, I switched to a ridge regression model, which yielded far better results. Did you know most regression models can have inference run with just a few basic json parameters? Well, I didn’t until today, but they can. Anyway, with that done and mostly accurate, I got my first prediction working and with the assistance of Copilot, even a window! Now, there is still serious work on the table, but it feel good to finally have something tangible, doesn’t it?
After a hell of a lot of procrastination and conflicts in my head on what to do, I finally have a almost-complete interface! As you can see, this model predicts outcomes that align fairly well with models such as RaceToTheWH or Silver Bulletin, if a bit D-optimistic (probably due to the data-driven nature of the model, which I believed was the right path). I want to add some QoL improvements such as candidate names, methodology breakdowns per prediction, and maybe even the latest news per race, but I think overall it’s fairly close to shipping!

So far, I’ve worked on a wide variety of random things, of which I’ll explain from here: Homography function: my plan is to determine the homography transform of the keypoints of the field, and transform it to the actual field, where you can map the pixels of the image to the field position, sooo yea. experimentation with OpenCV tracking: experimented with cv tracking functions to focus on a robot, and find the center of the bounding box, from which it can be logged making a robot bumper keypoint dataset: creating a dataset on roboflow in which it finds out the 4 keypoints of the robot bumpers, to try and extractas much accuracy, from which it can go through the homography function challenges: estimations of robot pose when its not on the screen tracking through missed detections inferring robot motions temporal consistency (idk what that means mr. gpt) for now I’ll be working on making the dataset for the robot keypoints, but i think this is a good start!"}]...

It’s a project I started quite some time ago for class, the original plan being that the main character would be the principal of the school, with them fighting against unprofessional habits. This is probably my least favorite project of the collection but it’s still worth a spot here I believe. WHOS IN THE RING NOW? In this current state of the project, you play as a little-mac equivailant and fight against 3 enemies that each represent an unprofessional value. Chain consecutive punches without getting hit to unleash a powerful super punch, which if you hit it just right, can make the opponent go down for the count with 1 blow. There are currently… 3 Opponents SLOTH , representing laziness, apathy, and torpidness. A glass joe / gabby jay counterpart, acts as the game’s “Tutorial” character. PRIDE , representing arrogance, selfishness, and egoism. A mix between Super Macho Man and Don Flamenco, he will taunt and tease you while still packing a punch, but outperform him and he will be left speechless… WRECK , representing wrecklessness, sporadicism, and poor decision making. A mix between Piston Hurricane and Bob Charlie, he will jump and dance around the ring, letting little leeway for rebuttal. However, once you do, he will go down easy. Leaderboards & menus to track them WHOS UP NEXT?? As aforementioned, I’m not the biggest fan of this project, so dont expect much time to be spent on this one, but the general plan for the future is to have 1 more enemy, the title champion thats a dirty cheater, and just general polish. KNOCK OUT!!! To wrap this devlog up, I once again provide you with a screenshot of the gameplay. Specifically of the Pride fight. Much obliged, -Medic"}]...
