Overview This session focused entirely on improving the visual interface. No new game mechanics were added. The goal was to make the layout clearer, more informative, and more polished without introducing gradients or heavy visual effects. Changes Boss Panel The boss panel was restructured. The boss name and HP bar are now displayed in a compact stat block below the sprite. The HP bar was thinned down and simplified. A row of task progress dots was added beneath it, one dot per task. Each dot fills white when a task is completed. The active task pulses dimly to show the current position. This gives the player a clear sense of progress at a glance without needing to count tasks. A damage flash effect was also added. When the boss takes a hit, a red ring briefly expands around the sprite and fades out. This makes successful submissions feel more impactful. Task Panel The task panel was redesigned with a header row containing two badges: one showing the current task number out of the total, and one showing the HP damage the task will deal. The description is now treated as the main heading. The example code block was simplified with a minimal left border accent. The victory screen was also cleaned up. It now shows a small “BOSS DEFEATED” label above the title, consistent with the badge style used throughout the rest of the UI. Global Styles Google Fonts were loaded globally for Inter and JetBrains Mono. Custom scrollbar styles were applied to keep the dark theme consistent throughout. Default browser margin and padding resets were added. Notes The color palette is strictly black, white, and grays. No gradients, no colored backgrounds, no glow effects. The only color exception is the red damage badge and the low-HP bar state, which are intentional signals to the player.
Architecture and Routing The application now supports multiple distinct screens and states, moving beyond a single static view: Intro Screen: A landing page that introduces the game, lists the available bosses, and explains the rules. Boss Defeated Screen: A transition state that displays the player’s statistics for the defeated boss and previews the next challenge. Victory Screen: The final state reached after completing all content, presenting a summary of the player’s total time, attempts, and overall accuracy. Multi-Boss Support The hardcoded single-boss logic has been refactored. The game state now imports a structured array of bosses. A second boss, “Array Alchemist”, has been integrated into the loop. When a boss reaches zero HP, the game seamlessly transitions to the next boss in the sequence, resetting health while preserving total accumulated statistics. Audio Feedback To improve interaction, a lightweight audio system was introduced using the native Web Audio API. This avoids the need to load external MP3 files. Synthesized tones are now played during specific events: Correct submission (Hit) Incorrect submission (Miss) Boss Defeated Game Completed (Victory) Quality of Life Improvements Keyboard Shortcuts: Added a global event listener to the Monaco Editor. Visual Polish: The boss UI was updated to include a brief description of the current boss, and the health/task progress bars were refined to match the strict minimalist aesthetic.
New Feature Update We have added a new boss to the game to increase the challenge and cover more JavaScript concepts. Syntax Sorcerer The Syntax Sorcerer is the third boss you will face. This boss has 150 Health Points and tests your knowledge of more advanced JavaScript syntax. Tasks included for this boss: Arrow Functions: You must write an arrow function that returns a specific value. This helps practice modern function syntax. Error Handling: You are required to write a try-catch block. This is essential for managing errors in real applications. Spread Operator: You need to use the spread operator on an array. Reset: If you make a mistake and get the answer wrong, your combo resets to zero. These additions make the game longer, provide a better learning curve, and add a layer of challenge for skilled players who want to maintain a high combo.
Player Health and Game OverPlayers now have a persistent health bar starting at 100 HP. Incorrect code submissions are no longer consequence-free. Every failed attempt causes the boss to attack, dealing 15 damage to the player. If the player’s health reaches zero, a Game Over screen is triggered, wiping all progress and forcing a complete restart.Combo System and HealingTo balance the strict punishment for errors, the combo system has been fully integrated into the gameplay loop. It actively tracks the time spent on the current boss combined with the historical time from previously defeated bosses. This adds a subtle layer of pressure and allows players to track their speedrun performance in real time.

I built “Coding Boss Fight”, a browser-based RPG where players defeat bosses by solving real JavaScript coding challenges. Devlogs:
I am working on my own operating system.
HackOS is going to be a really beautiful operating system.
The window can now be moved across the entire screen; it can be closed and even reopened. The current time is also displayed in the top right corner.
There is now a project workspace that displays all current information about one of my projects.
As the third and final app, I’ve added the calculator; it works like a standard calculator but features a stunning design.
For my latest milestone, I wanted to inject some classic sci-fi hacker vibes. I designed and integrated a custom Terminal Simulator called hackterm. It processes standard commands like help, clear, whoami, and neofetch (complete with stylized ASCII system art). But the absolute highlight is the new matrix command. Typing it triggers an HTML5 overlay that fills the terminal window with a dynamic, glowing green digital rain effect—exactly like the iconic code streams from The Matrix. Clicking anywhere inside the window instantly safely stops the animation loop and drops you back into the standard command line. What’s Next?Up next, I’m planning to implement a Markdown notepad (“HackPad”) using localStorage so notes actually persist between sessions. Stay tuned for more updates!
I’ve given HackOS a massive upgrade! Along with two brand-new core applications, I’ve fixed critical infrastructure bugs that had previously caused the system to freeze up completely. The startMatrix() and stopMatrix() functions have been cleanly separated, and the render interval optimized. The system is running smoothly again—100% glitch-free!
I have translated the entire operating system into English. I added a button to maximize the window and an arrow in the bottom right corner that allows you to manually resize the window.

There’s also a MIN_DAY_DURATION floor (1 hour) so a passing cloud or a lens flare can’t fake a fake “day.” Anything outside a real daylight window gets logged as NIGHT_CURVE_SKIPPED and skipped before the VLM even sees it saves a ton of compute on a big folder. Results get merged: Shadow angle -> circular mean across models, flagged DISAGREE if spread > 45° Shadow length / density / rock texture / volcanic features -> majority vote Plant types / rock colors -> unioned into one combined list Latitude derivation Previous versions only estimated longitude. v3.3 adds a day-length-based latitude calc, it finds the longest daylight interval in the dataset, converts that duration into a sunset hour angle, and solves for latitude using solar declination for the day of year. Search area validation Both derived coordinates now get checked against a Haversine distance from a defined SEARCH_CENTER / SEARCH_RADIUS_KM, with a clean ✅ / ❌ status line and a fallback bounding box printed if the point lands outside the circle. Habitat classifier got smarter HABITAT_RULES is now a proper rule list -> each biome match is a lambda checking keyword hits across plant types, rock color, and vegetation density instead of a flat tally. Sonoran/Chihuahuan/Mojave/Colorado Plateau/Cascades/Sierra-Great Basin/High Desert/Mixed Conifer are all still in there, just with tighter matching logic. Parser resilience parse_field() handles models that randomly bold their output ( SHADOW_ANGLE: etc.) and normalizes stray ° symbols and none/n/a/null variants down to “unknown” so downstream math doesn’t choke on garbage strings. Known issue, flagging this for myself before I forget The longitude calc in main() is currently hardcoded, not pulling from the actual solar_noon_avg computed earlier in the run: day_of_year = 138 # May 18th eot = 3.65 # Verified EoT for Day 1 noon_secs = 84495 # Verified 23:28:15 UTC trajectory That’s leftover from debugging against the sample dataset, it means every run right now spits out the same longitude regardless of what images you actually feed it, which is obviously not the goal. Latitude is properly dynamic (built off intervals from the real daylight curve), longitude isn’t yet. Top priority fix for the next patch, need to swap those three constants for the real per-dataset solar_noon_avg / Julian day / EoT calc instead of the frozen debug values. Next up Wire the real solar_noon_avg (already computed in compute_solar_noon()) into the longitude block instead of the hardcoded Day 1 constants Maybe expand HABITAT_RULES matching beyond simple keyword hits, closer to weighted scoring Look into whether internvl2_5-4b is pulling its weight in the ensemble or just adding runtime for marginal disagreement value"}, {"post_id": 2525, "ts": "2026-06-05T01:55:27Z", "hours": 1.4319, "text": "Devlog - 01 A few weeks ago I almost helped find $20K buried somewhere in the American southwest. I’m also trying to keep it simple because sometimes when I tell it something specific, it thinks all cases should be considered the same way. Updates Refined the prompt AI now looks through 3 of the most recent screenshots to determine what I’m doing. Issues The AI still gets what I’m doing wrong sometimes. And I made it so it takes a screenshot every 2 minutes instead of 20 seconds. Updates AI now takes screenshots every 2 minutes AI Processes screenshot, and depending on the response and prompt, changes the status variable Connected AI to Discord program (Sends new status to bot after analysis) What’s next The AI isn’t the best at differentiating what I’m doing right now, but I’m also not sure how good it is. Dev log 1 This is the start of a mini program I’m making that’s going to track my activities on my computer to give me an incentive to be productive! So below here I have a plan of what I’m trying to build, and it seems I’m going to have to learn about using APIs, communication between different local programs like IPC. I’m not sure how to track the time I spent planning so I started a bit of code to log this. Development I had to make a app in discord to act as my status display, and this gave me a app ID Then I got a test script and tested to see if I could connect my script to the app using app ID. I had to install the pypresence plugin, which is how, python can communicate with discord. What’s next I have to figure out what AI I could use, and learn how to incorporate a AI in a python script. I’m calling it Nozi bot for now because it sounds like “nosy” and it’s like tracking what you’re doing for your nosy friends.
Dev log #2 So I started testing out the AI here because I’ve never worked with it, and it wasn’t as hard as I thought it’d be. I decided to use a Gemini API, which I had to get from the Google AI Studio API Keys page. Then they also had a page somewhere teaching you how to use the API, which helped a lot ( Gemini API help ). The biggest issue I had was which model of Gemini I was using. 3.5 lite allowed more usage, and was the latest model that I could use. Updates I made a test file for testing the pyautogui to take a screenshot and save it. Got a Gemini API key Learned how to make a hidden file called .env(environmental variables) and gitignore(Put the name of files you don’t want to commit) to hide my API key when I commit it to my GitHub Created a basic AI interaction with Gemini to take a text input, and an image input to generate a response. What’s next Tune the prompt a bit to generate the response in a specific format(Right now I get an explanation sometimes, and not others) Connect this to the application display I made last time to show what I’m doing right now. Check out the code below to see how my simple AI interaction works.
Dev log #3 So I got it working!!! I tried it out in Discord for a few hours, and the AI usage limits is holding up well. I was about to switch to a different AI because there were usage limits, and I kept hitting it. I realized it was because I didn’t have to upload the images to the Gemini cloud. I just let my program read them directly. I need to find a way to stress test it and teach it what screenshots are in what category. This also includes doing better prompt engineering.
Dev log #4 I did some looking into prompt engineering, and I’m realizing it’s tough. Sometimes the AI, mistakes things I’m doing and puts them in the wrong category. Ex, if I had Discord open, and a friend sends me a video, the AI would mark that under doom scrolling, even though I didn’t do it. What’s next Have it just run while I’m using my computer, and check my status every once in a while, and refine my prompt based on what the AI reasoned.
Dev log #5 Testing I didn’t code much but I just ran my program across multiple days, and tweaked the prompt to make the categorizer more accurate. I think I’ve tweaked it to a point where it correctly categorizes daily activities done on a computer, and rarely gives a incorrect status. Updates Added a examples folder to add training data along with a description for each image Added more specific constraints to the prompt like if 3 screenshot are exactly the same, user is idle Fixed the status if statement. Before it checked for the mention of the categories STEM, GAMES, STUDY, DOOM_SCROLLING, and MEETING, in that order. But now it checks the boxed phase for the category. What’s next (UX) Packaging this program up for others to easily run (Data tracking) Track how much time a user spends in a certain category each day because people like to see data.
Dev log #6 Added a interactable system tray icon to launch the status tracker to make the user experience better plus some data tracking. Updates Used pystray to create a system tray icon for windows with menu options(Start, Stop, Quit) Added a txt file with tracking of how long user spends on each activity. At the beginning of every use, the program reads from txt file. What’s next Writing back to the txt file when user quits, adding another menu option to check status data....

Version 1, completed guide and added a picture command using thecatapi
Hopefully fixed some of the issues with the bot running and added an incomplete feature, random breed, which will hopefully be done soon
Finished /kittybot-randombreed alongside general UI changes, overall happy with my first project
The bot is done! Many avilable commands I forgot to ship in the end so consider this a last devlog! KittyBot may return in a HC event near you…
Fix to the bot where CatAPI now needs an API key to be able to find a cat breed
Ships:
I made a basic bot as an entry into Stardance. What was the most difficult was coding the image uploading feature; which I had help with from AI, that told me to have text accompanying my image.
Finished the KittyBot, a Slack bot that runs 24/7 and allows users to use different commands to find different cat pictures, breeds with information, etc....

Got webview added and a working URL bar! next step is adding downloads and bookmarks (and the stuff a browser needs) then adding stuff like screen reader and stuff like that
Got bookmarks and tabs done (for the most part) i still need to polish it a bit more but so far so good!
Added settings page AND a thing to save and load settings
Got this so it kinda works
Got TTS working (but its always enabled) probably gonna skip the magnifying glass because it is not as easy as i thought it would be but tts almost fully works
No Visual changes but i added it so imgs are able to be read with tts my next steps are optimizing the system and adding downloads and loading things
Made UI for settings and url bar WAY better (they are in the menu button in the taskbar) but this is a huge update for UI and i think i fixed Talkback imgs support crashing the app (idk if it even works rn tbh)
Added downloads and made first build! removed cookies button from menu as it did not work but cookies do
Hey! Using a VM to experience old OS is heavy, and most “Web OS” projects rely on “bloated” modern frameworks like React. I wanted to bring back the look of early Linux without all the VM things. I built the entire system from scratch using pure HTML, CSS, and Vanilla JavaScript, bundled with Vite (to publish it on Vercel & for dev) . I coded a custom DOM-based window manager to handle dragging, resizing, and z-index stacking with classic 3D borders. To make it authentic, I added an AMIBIOS boot sequence + a real-time RAM check and SVG Energy Star logo. I also designed a modular app registry to manage and launch the system’s built-in software. This includes functional recreations of KCalc, KWrite, and a custom Netscape Navigator. It even features Konsole, a working bash-like terminal emulator inspired by my bare-metal OS project, NoxOS. Dragable window are now up !

Now have taskbar and focused windows
I just add an invisible change, now the apps are in differents files. So the whole “OS” logic is in 216 lines of JS 😂
Just add Netscape Navigator. I’ve recreated all of the ui element in pure js + css combo ! Now i just need to add an iframe to display actual webpages.
Just move the task bar to the top like the real KDE 1.0. Now the Netscape browser work (can browse button actually do things)
Now have resizable window
There now is Desktop Shorcut
Konsole v0.X.X-UNSTABLE now work :
Ready to be Ship ! https://github.com/wirenux/KlassicOS
Add full system info app
Add a the calculator app + custom width & height for application (+ some little invisible fix)
I now have a right-click menu with the ability to change the background theme
Just add a fake BIOS loading screen

I’ve make web-based Operating System (OS) that recreates the classic look and feel of KDE 1.0. KlassicOS is build with HTML, CSS, and vanilla JavaScript. The difficult part of this project was finding idea off apps I can include and the Window Management. In this os there is 4 main application, KWrite to write some text, Konsole the terminal, Netscape Navigator the browser and System Info who just print the project info :-)
KlassicOS is a web-based OS that recreates the KDE 1.0 desktop experience directly in the browser. Everything runs entirely client-side, keeping the architecture as snappy and lightweight like the 90s systems....
