started work on the core module model it is pretty simple but i still like it
I have returned! I have made big work on orbital assembly including: windowed variant of strait module, corner module A, corner module B, T module A, T module B, T module C, X module A, X module B, cap module A and cap module B. This is the first part of what I am calling operation “push”, with the aim to get most of my projects fully operational. Orbital assembly has been given top priority and I am hoping to do daily updates for a least the next couple of weeks. -Astro duck signing off-
decorative bits and bobs (verry large update). in this update I have added 19 total parts including: new window variants for modules, radiators, communication arrays, solar panels and some RTGs. firstly the new windows 8, i mean the eight new windowed modules these allow the astronauts of the station to look outside and see space. next the two new communication modules; the comms array cap modules (A+B). after that the new heat management modules preventing the station from overheating in space; dual radiator and quad radiator modules. importantly the new generator modules, three solar modules and two RTG (Radioisotope thermoelectric generator) modules. last but not least the two new access modules; the multipurpose exterior platform S (or the MEPS). so as you can see a big update. also total list of new modules: cap module a, cap module B, corner windowed A, corner windowed B, T module windowed A, T module windowed b, T module windowed c, comms array module A, comms array module B, dual radiator module, quad radiator module, small solar array, medium solar array, large solar array, RTG cap module A, RTG cap module B, MEPS A and finally MEPS B
orbital assembly: servers online (minor update) in todays minor report i have created two new station modules: the server module and the flag bearer module. the server module is probably one of my most complicated modules yet. while the flagbearer variant pays homage to this event in which orbital assembly is growing from. Astro duck signing off.
ORBITAL ASSEMBLY: THE THIRD AXIS (daily log no.4). in this minor update I have added FIVE new modules three of witch completely change the construction system. firstly two new generator modules; the solar array Cap (A+B). and now the interesting modules; THE VERTICAL CONNECTORS, allowing for easy stacking of modules in your station. these new modules are: X module vertical base, X module vertical top and X module vertical extension. thanks for reading. -Astro duck signing off-
TRUSSES WITH EASE!!! orbital assembly kinda major update: in this update there is now a brand new construction system: TRUSSES (you know the uninhabitable parts of the ISS/beams) with TRUSSES (yes it is always in caps) you can construct solar arrays, link segments to other segments, and obviously just look cool. now the “WITH EASE” part is about how I have completley redesigned a decent chunk of the modules, to allow easier printing. other bits: A print test has been made it was successfull and showed the cliping system was fully functional (also print times are relativley low, ~1 hour per module) -astro duck signing off
actual assembly: I have begun constructing the prototype, as of now I have printed 7 modules with a few more planned
orbital assembly: priming for launch!!! this is almost entirely work on getting the project downloadable properly and easily. not much to say other than every part now has its own file instead of one HUGE file
Orbital assembly: “docking clamps released you are go for module deployment” this is the final devlog before shipping, all of this was recompiling the files and printing preparation, orbital assembly is ready for shipping
Ships:

There’s no good, centralized, user-friendly way to browse sports and find a club that actually fits what you’re looking for. So I decided to build one myself. Timeline I actually started working on this project last fall, long before I joined Hack Club. It’s been a side project I come back to whenever I have the time and motivation for it, so progress has been steady but not constant — more of a “work on it in bursts” kind of project than a daily grind. Joining the Stardance Challenge felt like a great excuse to pick it back up with more focus and actually push it forward. Tech stack I’m keeping things simple and dependency-free: HTML for structure CSS for styling JavaScript — all vanilla, no frameworks or libraries No React, no build tools, no bloat. Just the raw basics, which honestly was not the best decision, but at the time I started I had no clue about any frameworks existing. A small honest note One thing worth mentioning: the site itself is in Hungarian, since it’s built for Hungarian users trying to find local sports clubs. I know Hack Club’s community and platform are primarily English-speaking, so there’s a bit of a language mismatch between the project and the challenge. I’m keeping the devlogs in English, but the actual product stays Hungarian, because that’s who it’s meant to serve. What’s next I’ll keep posting updates here as I keep building — adding features, improving the design, and (hopefully) making it easier than ever for people in Hungary to find a sport and a club that’s right for them."}]...

To test it, just open index.html in any browser - Chrome, Safari, Firefox, whatever. Click a square to start typing, use Tab to switch direction, and hit the Check button when you want feedback. That’s it....

(I was too focused on the UI I never got around to actually posting a blog, until now.) The “sign up” and “sign in” is bare bones to say the least and I can’t see my password to see if I’ve made any misclicks. Faced an issue when creating an account, with the email I whitelisted to have posting privledges in auth.ts, the post button doesn’t redirect me to the post page. (Later realized this was because I’m using VS Code simple browser, used Chrome later and it was fine.) Added a basic Calendar with just the dates and a highlight around today’s date. Gave the sign in page an actual UI and made it so the most recent character input of your password isn’t censored. Gave the post page a UI as well. This stuff is easy to do manually, just read tailwind docs and add stuff in the className= within the divisions. Claude’d a complete rework of the home page visual using a reference image which reduced the number of triangles, added depth, added trees and a leaf canopy, and make the scene more animate. Tweaked with the branches, tree details, wind strength, leaf density, and tree density. Changed the spooky green fog/background to a warmer, autumn daytime feel. Added a loading page and then starting to make some UI changes. Dividing the top bar & buttons from the rest of the page and adding a 3-dot menu to let the user switch between different UI I’ve made over time. (I added one I used in my “comp.” project.) Made a couple of quick UI fixes, such as making the top bar more minimal by making the buttons more minimal and shrinking it. Made the calendar take up the entire page and moved the dates into the top left. Used todoist API developer integration to sync my todoist with the website, and made my calendar public. Added bullet points for each task, updated vercel with my todoist API key, made some bug fixes such as preventing both UI’s from being toggled on at once, moved the “Theme” button to under the triple dot menu, shrunk the loading screen lily, added a next/previous button for the calendar, changed the Sign in page to a Profile page and added a sign out button. This is a backend thing but “add paragraph” in my post blog page didn’t have a button to cancel that new paragraph. Added transitions, adjusted the brightness on a few things (moonlight on the lily field), made dark mode work for the home page visuals, and added fireflies. Tested posting a real blog post, recieved an auth error. Fixed that error, posted the blog, to find that the only the title/date was saved/displayed onto the blog page. Fixed the issue of the browser displayed a cached copy of the blog page instead of the database. Fixed the blog not showing my line breaks. Made each blog into a tweet-like bubble, and added a delete feature for the admin. Added a red glow behind only the flowers for lily ui dark mode. Deleted the black “my blogs” button from the tutorial, made a few formatting changes with the willy.work title text, and browsed freefaces and swithced to Lastik. Expanded the profile page heavily. Added a “send a message” tab and a “contribute a blog” tab and redid the UI formatting to have the page/button selection on the left and then the page displayed on the right. On the admin page there’s also a button to review contribution requests and an edit feature for the about page. Fixed the edit button being too close to the “My Blogs” button on the about page and imported a river visual I used in my aquaplot project for the about page. Added more detail (trees, better grass, basic koi fish) but it’s… mediocre so I’ll probably make my own 3D model or download another one off of Sketchfab like I did for the lillies tomorrow. Added Lastik as an environment variable because the licensing doesn’t allow for it to be published in a github repo."}, {"post_id": 85403, "ts": "2026-10-31T08:42:14Z", "hours": 4.0233, "text": "willy.work devlog #4 Added a mesh using planeGeometry and chose a nice dark green color for the background and plane. Added fog as well that matched the color of the background but not the new plane. Rotated the plane 90 degrees toward me because planeGeometry spawn in straight up for some reason. Adjusted camera position, lily scale and lily position to make sense with the plane. Used an array and a .map to generate random positions using Math.random for the x and z postions of the lillies for the field. Got 30 lillies to spawn out in the field. Claude advised to switch to instancing to fill in the entire field, because 1000 lillies all manually generated would start lagging the website. Learned what instancing is; the GPU renders the shape and look once, and then makes a bunch of copies at each position at once. Ran into an infinite recusion error because LilyField was drawing itself, didn’t know what to do because TSX marked it as valid, and had to use Claude to troubleshoot that. Okay to implement instancing first used destructuring via const { nodes } to pull out the mesh and the texture. Ran into trouble figuring out what the name of the mesh was exactly, since I downloaded the model. I had to run a console.log troubleshoot and access localhost:3000 on Chrome instead of the VS Code simple browser to read the console, and finally found the specific mesh name which was: “LycorisRadiata_LycorisRadiataTexture_0”. Like bruh. Used Instances tag to render the geometry and the material and then a .map to generate positions for all of the instances. NOTE: I’m adding to the devlog AS I make the changes, and a lot of these notes are hours if not days apart. Made some fixes with the array. I was rendering 7000 lillies, but they were spread from -12 to 12 in the x, a lot of which the camera couldn’t see. I shrunk down that range to about -7 to 7, which helped make the field a lot denser. Next, I added a breeze. Did this by asking Claude, first of all, then adding a shader writed in GLSL. Too many languages in this project, and I’m learning each slowly (and reading a LOT of docs). For the wind function you use a sin wave and the instance matrix to map the “wind” (just a transformation that pushes the points of the lillies sideways) onto the position of the lillies. Did the same for the grass. Switched from ambientLight to hemisphereLight, which basically only made it lighter, not too crazy of a change. Ran into some issues with useMemo and useFrame, and learned “use” blocks MUST be in the component body (I accidentally used useFrame inside of useMemo.) Made some color changes to the lighting, background, fog, and grass colors. Changed the grass from ugly 3 faced triangles to nicer, tapered blades that better resemble grass using PlaneGeometry, similar to the manual spider lily stem I was working on in the previous dev log (which you can also see in the noted out portions of my code.) FINALLY started to move away from this 3D stuff and back to the website stuff. Started by moving the “my blogs” button to the side of “willy.work” using flex. (learned I needed items-center as well) Finally fixed the buttoms having a green background. (simple fix, just added bg-white/70 dark:bg-black/50 backdrop-blur to the div className) Working on making the blog part of the website actually functional. Quick fix: changed “content” in PostModel.ts from String to [String] so that the blog can be a list of strings and not just one. Made a quick security fix by making the function that posts the blog verify authenthication. Pushed everything done up til now, then Claude’d a basic calendar. Stupidly ran a pasted command in my terminal (I trusted the website…) but once it closed down my Oracle Cloud connection and closed my terminal I knew it was up to something. When it started asking for my password I knew it was malware. Anyways, as it relates to this project I’ve just spent like 30 minutes outside of VS Code resetting my Mongo DB password and generating a new auth key. I had to refresh myself on where to put everything, had to update in both Vercel and my .env, and I took this opportunity to rename the database Vercel uses from “test” to “stardance-blog.” So at least one good thing came out of me almost getting hacked. Had most of the devlog written but I restarted my Mac after running that malicious command (I rarely restart my Mac) so now I have to restart this devlog and see how much I remember doing. Created a localStorage to save the true/false value for the light/dark mode toggle. However, on reload the light mode flashed for a second before toggling to the saved dark mode. I read and followed this guide to fix the white flash: https://nextjs.org/docs/app/guides/preventing-flash-before-hydration . Just added a small inline script in the of layout.tsx so the .dark class is added before the page loads. Did some vanity changes for the nav bar. I put the button styles in a class string and just spammed that for all of my buttons. One of the best looking changes was a simple addition: “flex gap-2 items-center px-6 py-4” in , which lined up all of the buttons to the right of the page. Started work on the part I’m most excited about; a 3D home page. I really want spider lilies. I asked Claude how to get started on this; I could either code it all in react three fiber, which was the “hard” way or download a 3D model and display it all nice and fancy using react three fiber. After downloading everything using the react three fiber installation tutorial, I used to build a procedural stem. This is the SpiderLily.tsx. Used , OrbitControls, CatmullRomCurve3 passing through a list of Vector3 points. Realized that doing this for the entire flower with petals and shading and texture… would be way too difficult and doesn’t seem like the coding I’d want to do anyway… if anything I’d want to use blender and import that but, at least for now I just downloaded a Sketchfab model with a CC BY license. Started that in SpiderLilyModel.tsx. Successfully imported the file and added it to layout.tsx Removed OrbitControls because the spider lilies is supposed to be just the home page. Read over tailwind css docs and used fixed, inset, and -z to get the spider lily to take up the entire page from corner to corner and have it on a layer below all of the text. Instead of having the useGLTF directly in the I had that be the stage and created a separate function where useGLTF lives and used that as an actor. Created a position prop for that actor function. Switched from to so I could have multiple spider lilies. Now I have multiple rendered spider lilies with adjustable positions and a functional fallback! Super proud to say that I’m actually getting the hang of tailwind css and a teensy bit of react three fiber / react three and I can now make my own code by reading docs. Following the tutorial, “Build your own Blog.” Currently on step 7/9, but somewhere along the line something went wrong. (screenshot attached below) Maybe because I wanted to type out the code instead of copy and pasting, but idk. Trying to finish the tutorial and deploy to Vercel, and then I want to start experimenting with 3D libraries and motion like you often see on Instagram reels.
Finished “Build Your Own Blog,” yay! In the repo there’s a little .md I created to take notes on the git commands and the flags I used. Spent a while pushing the code to GitHub through the terminal instead of using Claude, which I was used to doing because of a hackathon I did with my friends. Pushed “dark mode & about pg.” Deleted some unused files that came from installing next.js on the wrong layer/folder. Launched the website via npm run dev and used the VS Code Simple Browser feature. Added more detail (trees, better grass, basic koi fish) but it’s… mediocre so I’ll probably make my own 3D model or download another one off of Sketchfab like I did for the lillies tomorrow. Added Lastik as an environment variable because the licensing doesn’t allow for it to be published in a github repo.

willy.work is my personal blog/website. it started with, “i want to participate in stardance, but i don’t know what to make. i’ll follow the build your own blog guide because a personal website is a good thing to have.” once i completed the tutorial, i had other ideas. my friend was using tailscale and a raspberry pi to vpn into his home network to use as an exit node, improving security and bypassing school wifi censorship. i wanted to do the same thing, but just as i installed and set up tailscale, the district patched the method. my mac also can’t sustain the amount of chrome tabs i have open (~50) but i have a nice, 64 gb ram desktop sitting at home. the idea was to create my own “tailscale” using a free oracle cloud server and headscale, which would also allow me to rdp onto my desktop, in case i wanted to use a stronger cad tool or anything that would require a stronger computer. i set up the oracle cloud server, i set up headscale, and then i realized my website was straight BUNS. so i poured hours and hours following tailwind css tutorials & reading docs to make my ui presentable & the features/pages functional and to make a cool visual home page, a field of lillies. after my fair share of manual code and a drawn learning experience, i used claude to polish my website in the last devlog and to add some advanced features that would’ve taken me a while in this last devlog before shipping. super proud of the finished project; functional blog system, login/admin system, calendar synced with my todoist, and beautiful ui. i incorporated and improved on visuals i used in previous projects into my website, which i’m proud of. to add: i should add a “projects” page, similar to my blog page just with all of my projects across hackathons, school projects, hack club events, etc. a socials page to link to my instagram, github, etc. at work, i talked with a cloud engineer today and he was hyping the heck out of aws. i’m planning on moving all of willy.work onto aws. mongodb is already on aws; i would use aws’s cloud services instead of the oracle one i have set up already, and switch to aws hosting/dns instead of vercel. i also say willy.work, but in reality i haven’t bought that domain yet. hopefully i’ll get some stardust to get dns funding from this, even though stardance is ending. i’ll post some more blogs, hopefully ygs enjoy the glimpse into my life and the visuals i’ve created. :D...
