Learned how to use Godot from the classic Brackeys tutorial: adding player movement, idle animation, tile set (testing), one way platforms, and moving platforms. Also created little tiger character as player! Need to add death, walking animation, better physics, and collectibles. Was hard for me to understand scenes and nodes but very rewarding in the end! :) Also planning to add the educational elements soon…
After getting the gist of Godot from Brackey’s tutorial, I decided to switch gears to a boss-fight type of game! What I added: The player rotates to face the mouse, allowing for aiming Left-clicking, or just simply tapping on the mouse pad, for shooting An area node for the boss A question appears on screen before triggering projectiles Projectiles from the boss, the number of which can be adjusted, are designed to be distanced by the same angle (ex 180/n, n being declared) A system using timer nodes that slows the game for a certain amount of time—allowing for the player to carefully aim and shoot—before returning to normal Why these features? But if the player shoots the wrong answer, the projectiles hurt them. I hope this makes learning English fun, but slightly fast-paced. Clearly I still have a lot to add! :)
Now I have implemented a sort of “quiz” system. Added features: Arrays containing questions, choices, and corresponding correct answers Randomly chosen questions featured one at a time Detecting whether the player has shot the projectile featuring the correct answer, in which all the projectiles will destroy themselves Playing these features in a perpetual loop Features needed to be added I definitely need to add health to add some risk into the game! Art will play a big part in making this game fun :) EFFECTS - Such as screen shake or particles!
I finished the player health bar in Aseprite! Design choices : The main mascot? Character? Of this educational game is a tiger. I wanted to reflect that while also taking inspiration from Chinese traditional lions (like those door knockers!) so here is a weird mashup! Lion? Tiger? Liger? No one shall know >:) I made it gold because yellow would definitely pop on the screen, which I hope would make it easy for players to locate on the screen. The red health is in another file, separate from the health bar The plan is to be able to crop out the red health as the health decreases, while ignoring the background bar. This allows for stylized health bars but fluid health decreasing/increasing animations!
Worked on the beginning boss of the game! I aimed to draw a feng huang — or phoenix — in Aseprite, but whoa, that took a lot more energy from me than expected! I focused on the head and body. Issues: Being a beginner in using Aseprite (I usually use pixilart.com) I didn’t remember to save :( I worked for about an hour on the face, but after my break and returning, I found that my work hadn’t saved!! You can notice how the feathers on the body look very different (and probably more wonky) from the feathers on the head and neck. Later this will help me separate out sections for animation :D What I should work on: Making the wings bigger (I am told that the phoenix looks like a chicken. ) Finishing the details of the feet and wings ANIMATION! Including: Idle Attack Damage I wonder how long that will take…haha…
Today, I worked more on the phoenix’s wings and legs. I haven’t finished yet, but hopefully I’m close! Here’s what I’ve done: Fleshed out the shading and made the wings bigger two times Shaded the foot Added tufts to the phoenix head This has all been to make the bird look more like a phoenix! I’ve gotten criticism that it looks like a chicken, so I tried to make the proportions more accurate, sharpened the feathers, and tried to make the features fancier. I’ve finally finished the phoenix! After finishing shading, I separated the key elements—head, body, wings—into different layers so that I could animate easier. Then I used the select tool to move and rotate the parts before fixing up the pixels. Unfortunately the wing feathers look wonky, but I’m not too sure how to approach that. After implementing ease in and out, here’s what I’ve completed : An idle animation (first four frames, and then reverse) An attack animation A transition to glowing eyes! A sudden burst of flame What I’ll be working on : The background pixel art The projectiles The boss health bar (The video has a clideo.com watermark because I needed to compress the video :( )
After completing the phoenix (finally), here’s what I finished: The projectiles emitted from the boss. I wondered what it should be—a rock? A magic orb? Worked on the background environment. Added: Pillars Doorway Brick texture Shading The most difficult thing for me is to make every element fit together. I hope I can finish the background today and probably work on the player and arrows. I also just realized that I should probably work on the projectile dissipating animation, too. Off to work!
Wowee, I finished the background! I mostly worked on the tiles and shadows, which I hope makes the environment more immersive and detailed. I also added in some of the complete assets into Godot! While I still have some pixel art to work on, such as: The player Arrows The projectiles exploding animation I think now is a good time to take a break from Aseprite and work in Godot. Since the pixel art is already way smaller than the original prototype, here’s what I need to work on: Adjusting the game code to the new screen size Slowing down projectiles and adjusting the time when they slow down Changing the question tweens so that the text doesn’t fly off the screen Changing player position Adding in the health bar sprites with functionality Implementing animation phases for the boss (play this animation when attacking, play this animation when idling, etc) VFX and SFX
I’ve put some of the pixel art into the game, and it’s looking good! The thing about the prototype is that it didn’t consider scale or size, so I had to change: The placement and zoom of the camera The size and tween animations of the quiz questions The player and enemy sprite + hitbox size However, I also finished: Health bars for the player and boss Tweens that would smoothly adjust the health (which was why the red health and the bar were drawn separately) Areas where the projectiles would be slow or fast. Initially this was controlled by timers, but I found that this was too buggy for my mom’s computer, so I just used area detection instead to make everything more consistent. Once you’ve answered a certain number of questions correctly, I plan for a button on the left to unlock You may already notice the buttons in the bottom left! When I filled the bar once, one of the buttons unlocked, a timer ran out (signified by the white bar), and I could click the button. I’m so close to finishing the game! First of all, I finished the attack system. Basically, you answer a certain number of questions under the “attack” button, filling up the bar next to it. When it fills up, you unlock a new weapon. After it cools down, you can use it; but on the first time of cycling through every weapon, only once! As you complete more cycles, though, that increases to twice, then three times, etc. I also added pixel art to the buttons. Finally, I implemented a losing and winning screen using the same node in the system, detecting player and enemy health.
I finished the game! :D Added sound effects for: Clicking buttons Player attacks Phoenix attacks Phoenix caw (to signal to the player that a barrage of projectiles is coming if they are too busy with the attack button) Background music! The quiz I finally added real questions! I wanted to focus on spelling for this one, so I used emojis and asked the user how the words representing them were spelled. Text stuff Added text instruction at the beginning Changed fonts of the text nodes featuring emojis (more on that later) Web shenanigans I wanted to make sure that the game would be available on devices that did not support downloading .exe (like chromebooks, for example). But uh…that was harder than I was expecting! I used netlify to create a url after exporting the game for html5. I’m sincerely sorry for the terrible audio quality in the video, I can’t screen record and the speakers on this computer are outrageous :’) )

This is especially made for the Chinese students I tutor! I made a boss fight game that uses shooter and (possibly) rpg elements to help the player practice kindergarten level English spelling. Just formulating the idea and incorporating it was challenging, though. From changing the genre of my game from a platformer to a boss-fight, to painstakingly drawing and animating the pixel art of the game, to learning Godot as a beginner…it’s been a wild ride! I’m proud that I was able to create a coherent and (hopefully) fun game, while learning new things about Godot and Aseprite. Nodes, signals, layers, frames, all bunched up together. While this is my first time making a game, I hope that my time and effort makes this an enjoyable experience for you! The link to my project is over at https://english-spelling-lesson.netlify.app (unfortunately this game requires a keyboard). G’ day. :)...

I have the status of whether the program is installed on the PC or not, as well as using the APIs listed before to add the description. I also locally fetch the install location if installed, and I output the help menu of the program if this is the case. Next step is to fetch the help menu or equivalent over an API.
I finished setting up my Cloudsmith repository. you can now the package by typing: ( https://dl.cloudsmith.io/public/pixeleyesd/cmdlookup/setup.deb.sh )’ | sudo -E bash then type: sudo apt install cmdlookup. I also made the package name and the command name behave the same when inputted, and also made invalid values show up as “Invalid”
The API is now working fully, and aside from some accidental inconsistencies, the project is largely ready to ship!
This project got denied so many times for bogus reasons, and now I’m forced to devlog to resubmit apparently. THEY TOLD ME I NEEDED SOURCE CODE IN MY REPO, WHEN I LITERALLY HAVE SOURCE CODE IN MY REPO. ITS THE FRICKIN BASH SCRIPT.

I made the base site. The date ticking works well (I took it from my PixelOS Project’s JS.) I’m now going to attempt to integrate Hypixel’s and Youtube’s APIs into the site for the actual data / stats of Technoblade and Team Technoblade.
I’m struggling with the Hypixel APIs so I just hardcoded the values in, since the account is inactive anyway.
I added more of Technoblade’s Hypixel stats and assembled the README.md. I also got an API key from Youtube. It sort of worked for pulling Youtube stats, but not consistently. I can’t figure out why.
I added more hypixel stats of Technoblade’s, and changed fetch from handle in the Youtube api (which seems to be deprecated) to fetch by channel UUID. It is now working consistently, and I am now ready to ship. :)g

still stuck in board creation hell…
More pieces! God it’s been so long since I uploaded one of these.
The board is complete now, and unfortunately I have to resort to using claude code to write optimized C code so that the base corpus of move generation doesn’t take literally 90 years to do. (ALL of the green “U” is claude-generated)
There’s not that much visible stuff, but I’ve spent absolutely monumental amounts of time trying to get the engine working. Thank you marimo for allowing me to use free cloud GPUs lol Either way, I’ve somewhat procrastinated on actually getting the more Quality-of-Life aspects of the board viewer to work. I finally got my ass to write the stupid code to let you actually play against the model on the website! Now you can get your ass beat to this random model that still kinda doesn’t know how to checkmate but besides!

lots of code cleanup learned today that you can’t just use Arc<Mutex<...>> everywhere (well you can but its not necessarily a good thing) so i’m now using RwLock and ArcSwap which makes things a lot easier. i ended up changing tons of internal stuff in basically every file and still my PR only added like 30 something lines
today i was trying to implement scrobble retries but i ended up not liking the current shape. i was gonna write to a file and send scrobbles later next time the host succeeds, but that was super annoying to implement i think i might end up trying a threads based approach where i just spawn a new thread whenever a scrobble fails; but that wouldnt handle network conditions as well. i think ima take a break from that and look at getting image support working tomorrow. that needs me to fix the upstream media-remote crate to fix a memory leak, first and foremost; then i’d want to lazy load images cus 70 MB just for getting a track is absurd
spent a LOT longer than 20 minutes trying to debug this weird memory leak that happens whenever i even ACCEPT image data on track events i literally gain a whole 200 MB PER EVENT, an “event” being any time the track info doesn’t stay the same. so if you pause it, play it, or the track changes for any reason, that’s an event, and it stacks so its totally unreasonable rn for me to get the images cus bro?? and i know its not in my code because i didn’t even add the handling yet i literally just accept the image data and it does that so i just filed an issue in the upstream crate pray for me guys
more subtle improvements in this session, i removed some unnecessary ui elements (like a redundant separator and useless buttons) the more interesting thing is i fixed a bug where i was loading stale states, which cause it to spam now, i’m about to test AppImage builds, whenever i feel comfortable enough to put out another release
created a litterbox mock api with bun so i can test against image uploading against it compliant-ish. enough that it only accepts valid parameters and returns realistic URL responses. and its only 57 lines! i <3 bun forever the source is here https://gist.github.com/thrzl/22cde52746d4febf2c513b7fc7b829eb
published another two versions today! first update contained a lot of those optimization fixes from before, but the second one was me testing with a user on windows (i normally use macOS, so testing on windows isn’t the easiest) now i’m doing testing on debian which is not working in any way at all </3
fixed a really obnoxious bug i’ve been dealing with pretty much the whole time. on macOS apple music, when you pick a new track, it’ll broadcast a pause event and THEN a play event immediately after. for whatever reason, pause events always LOSE the race against the play event, and therefore overwrite the play event. it probably has to do with deezer caching. the fix was just short circuiting; check early if this is a pause event and we alr have the info; if so, dont worry about processing anything else
finally merged the cover art uploading feature! works on all platforms (linux is untested, but… we’ll get there)
originally, i had written two completely separate track detection pipelines for macOS and windows/linux, but i realized that it resulted in a lot of redundant logic, and making changes to that logic required testing on both macOS and windows for things that shouldnt have (e.g. cover art uploading), so i decided to unify it into one processing pipeline, and the platform-specific parts are just getting it to be a MediaInfo type as soon as possible. by the end of it, there were only 20 more lines than there were before, but there is now only one processing pipeline which is a huge help for implementing stuff in the future! also, some more tangible things: dark mode UI dotsong will do its best to filter out tracks from browsers instead of just taking it with no questions arm64 builds for linux now!
i had been initializing a whole new last.fm/libre.fm client on every now playing request/scrobble, which was unnecessary and clunky. so i now: store a static CLIENT_POOL: LazyLock<DashMap<String, Client>> where the keys are the Scrobbler ids get the client for this scrobbler or create a new one and store it. this only runs on new requests, so we don’t unnecessarily create client. remove the client when the scrobbler is dropped, e.g. when the config is updated i’ve never used drop logic before but i think its like the coolest thing ever, so i was excuted about that
started rewriting the entire pipeline. main changes: complete MediaCenter::process_event rewrite rewritten completely from scratch. now takes up 40 less lines, skips invalid tracks earlier, and is much simpler to understand ticking logic improvement the app used to tick every 5 s to check track duration, which means 12/min. instead, i now calculate how far the 50% mark is and sleep for only that long; when we’re past it, it’ll just idle until the next track. the app now only wakes once per event, rather than 12 times/min use unicase crate to avoid unnecessary allocations most of the String allocations i make in the program are to_lowercase() calls for comparisons. the unicase crate allows me to make case-insensitive comparisons without extra allocations. all of this SHOULD mean less CPU and memory usage (i’m a bit obsessed with that, if you can’t tell yet), but i havent benched anything yet this PR edits like 500 lines but there’s only like 20 lines more than there were originally lol
detecting browsers is annoying i discovered the issue when dotsong was trying to scrobble “Instagram”. i had to design this weird detection logic that runs if the process name matches a list of known browsers: is allow_browsers even enabled in settings? could we find it on deezer this feels a bit shoddy because for more niche tracks (which is totally possible if you’re playing them from a browser) it probably won’t be found. this makes me think i should lookup on musicbrainz instead. i also don’t want to rely on a private API, metabrainz seems more trustworthy especially considering spotify’s latest API changes also: i think i want to add a few custom discord apps for certain common players, like apple music and spotify so it can be “Listening to Apple Music” and stuff yk?
Ships:
dotsong in its current state supports discord rich presence and scrobbling to last.fm, libre.fm, and any listenbrainz-compatible scrobbler. it can pick up tracks from any music player that interfaces with the system media center (i.e. MediaRemote on macOS, the media control thing on Windows that i always forget the name of, and MPRIS on linux). on the todo list is: better browser detection (might end up defaulting to off) scrobble retries optimization image uploading...

The game uses a random wait timer, turns the box green when it is time to click, calculates reaction time in milliseconds, detects false starts, saves the best score, and ranks the player using animal-inspired reflex categories. The most challenging part was learning how HTML, CSS, and JavaScript connect to each other. HTML created the page structure, CSS made the design look like a space-themed game, and JavaScript handled the actual logic, including timing, click detection, random delays, score calculation, and ranking. JavaScript was the hardest part because it controlled how the game responded to the user. I am proud that I completed and published my first working web project. I learned how to build the files, test the project locally, upload it to GitHub, write a README, and publish a live demo with GitHub Pages. This project gave me a basic understanding of how real websites are built and shipped. To test the project, click Start Game, wait for the box to turn green, and then click the box as fast as possible. The game will display your reaction time, rank, animal match, and explanation. Today I completed Stellar Reflex, a beginner web project I built to practice HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The project measures a user’s reaction time, detects false starts, shows the best score, and gives an animal-inspired ranking based on the player’s speed. This project was useful because it helped me learn the full workflow of a web project: building the structure with HTML, styling the page with CSS, adding interactivity with JavaScript, testing the project in a browser, uploading it to GitHub, and publishing a live demo with GitHub Pages. I see this project as a starter project rather than something I want to keep expanding. Now that I understand the basics, I want to move on to a more difficult and useful project with more real-world value, stronger features, and a clearer purpose.
Ships:
I made Stellar Reflex, a browser-based reaction-time game that measures how quickly a player responds to a visual signal. If you click too early, the game will detect it as a false start....

Easy Part: I think setting up the basic layout of sprites and platforms was quite easy, as the mechanisms were not quite complicated for this game. The most time-consuming part was definately the artwork. which is also why I used the assistance of AI to help me save some time. I am working a Warioware style game the main character is a solar powered robot and suns represent your lives i have so far worked for a little over an hour on this
I recently fixed a camera issue with my game where if my character went offscreen he would just disappear so I made a camera that follows him, and I am very close to finishing minigame 1.
I am working on the code for my game but I am having a lot of trouble trying to reference a function from one script to another I have been struggling with this for over 3 hours.
I finally fixed the error with trying to transfer a function from one scene to another it is a bit of a rough fix but I am ok with it
I just finished my game! I uploaded it to itch.io under the name solar because it follows a robot collecting suns.
I forgot to log 44 minutes through a devlog so im doing it now check out my game!
Ships:
I made a Warioware game it consists of 3 minigames, a 2 platformer minigames and a clicker game you get 5 lives to complete the game or you have to restart from scratch....

This project was relatively simple as i wanted to try out some things that i have never done before: creating PCBs. This was a very cool skill to learn and i can see it being very useful in future projects. I haven’t currently got the components to create it myself, but please have a look through and see what you think. Any feedback would be wonderful! FYI: This project is based off the hackpad guide....

I made the search page now dynamically fetch club data. You can now easily look up a club and fetch it’s data. Next up is the team data. I’ll probably be creating a custom TeamModel for the ease of use.

I may either try to add a little something extra before I ship it or I ship it not long from now. I really am happy I’ve been able to make this. So glad for the stardance challenge. Small peeve tho, I definitely spent more than an hour on this 11pm to 4am was a bit longer than one measly hours but I’ll take it I guess I also need help for a slack bot does anyone know where I get the demo url to complete the project info. I am also glad that I could program a “flapping” animation to the dragon when you click the screen or press space bar....

Added widgets like weather widgets, stocks and sports. I also added the ability to use search google through the notch as well as voice search to use your voice to search. Holy the voice search took me forever to figure out. I also rehauled music player controls and look to be more “apple-like” and actually function properly. Today I started working on my Web OS project. So far, I have spent 26 minutes on it. In this session, I mainly focused on the basic building stage of the project.I began by setting up the main structure of the Web OS and planning how the interface will be organized. I worked on the basic layout and started building the foundation that the rest of the system will be added onto later. At this stage, the work was mostly focused on starting the project, organizing the code, and building the basic framework rather than adding advanced features. This was an important first step because it helped create a starting point for future development and gave me a clearer idea of how I want the Web OS to look and function.
In this update, I successfully built and integrated two major system utilities into the core desktop environment: a Settings application and a Calendar . The Settings app introduces real time workspace customization by implementing an input interface that captures image link addresses and immediately binds them to the document body’s style property, allowing users to switch out the global background wallpaper instantly. Alongside this, I added a calendar component.
I expanded the WebOS environment by developing two primary user application layers: an optimized Images explorer and a data-handling Notes . The Images app introduces a gallery layout displaying wildlife and animal photo within a grid component framework. Both components integrate with the global window architecture, maintaining active content inputs without losing interface synchronization.
To make the environment feel like a functional desktop rather than just a stylized landing page, I built two new core applications into the system dock: a working Calculator utility and a dedicated “About Me” panel. For the calculator, instead of relying on basic, insecure evaluation tools, I structured an inline string compiler using strict execution rules to handle chained arithmetic expressions smoothly, mapping the interface out onto a clean button matrix. Alongside it, the “About Me” window serves as the primary personalization node for the OS, using custom CSS flex badges to cleanly highlight my background. Everything is feeling incredibly cohesive now.
finally completed the project!!
working on css!
more progress :)

I built WebOS, a browser-based desktop simulation featuring draggable windows, a live calendar, a notes editor, a calculator, and a dynamic wallpaper settings app. The biggest hurdle was engineering the window and keeping the midnight calendar updates lightweight, but I’m proud of how the system mimics a native desktop experience. To test it, click the dock or desktop icons to launch applications, drag the windows by their headers, and try pasting a web image link into the settings app to change the wallpaper on the fly....

Call me a Harry Potter fan for my slack-bot commands!! In all honesty, this was a lot harder than I thought it would be. It wasn’t crazy difficult by any means, but I ran into a lot of issues calling API commands, accidentally using outdated JS code (anyone else fall for res.map() vs. res.map??), and trying to trace which part of my code was broken and why. A lot of times, I just needed to commit to GitHub since the Nest version ran that… but I’m able to have my bot show me Harry Potter spells and houses!!!
