SchoolWare is a short WarioWare-style puzzle game about school. You have to complete different tasks in a short amount of time that involve History, Prealgebra, or Biology. What was challenging? One thing I found challenging was getting the timing of the levels to work right. When you start a level, it first shows you how many lives you have, and which level you’re on. Then, that message disappears, and the timer for your task starts. I didn’t fully understand how Godot’s process modes and time scaling worked, but I was able to figure it out. What am I proud of? I think the theme of the game and the levels are unique and silly. I am proud of the player movement, because it feels very responsive and fun to play. How can you test my project? You can just click the “Try Project” link below and it will take you to the itch.io page, where you can press “Run Game”. You may want to fullscreen the game to make it a bit more immersive, but it works either way.", "repo": "https://github.com/ObedH/school-ware", "demo": "https://obedh.itch.io/school-ware"}]...

I drew a stylized button link to make the “Try It” link pop. I made a background image for the itch.io page and wrote a description. I added some game juice by adding coyote time, which allows the player to jump even after they’ve fallen a little bit off a ledge. I also added squash and stretch to make the game feel more bouncy. Finally, I made some 8-bit sound effects using JSFXR. They’re really simple as of now, but I think they’re enough for the kind of game I’m going for. Devlogs:
Set up the Godot project, made a menu screen, and healthbar display I’m starting a new project on the mission “Make a WarioWare Game”, and my game is school themed. I finished setting up Godot, GitHub, and WakaTime. I made a health indicator which will pop up each time you die. The notebooks represent how many lives you have lost, and the timer at the bottom shows how long the message will stay up for. Right now, my menu screen is super simple, and I haven’t drawn a quit button yet so it’s not really usable. But I plan on continuing with the NES color palette!
Made a prototype of the first level Since my game is school themed, I made the first level a history lesson. You play as George Washington in a tiny platformer level and you get to the magically floating declaration of independence. The artwork doesn’t look great right now, and there isn’t a lose condition yet. I did a couple things differently from the tutorial: I used a TileMapLayer instead of StaticBodies for each platform, and a rectangular collision shape for the player instead of the circular one for better feeling movement.
Created the second level - PreAlgebra My second level involves solving a simple equation. There are four multiple choice options, which I made using TextureButtons in Godot. I plan to refine the visuals later. Currently, the win condition doesn’t look like it isn’t working, but that’s only because there I haven’t yet made the next level.
Made a win screen, and made the UI look better I drew a simple win screen that looks like a diploma, and the red circle at the bottom is a button which takes you to the menu. I drew more of the UI myself, and I think it looks better than using Godot’s Labels. For the minigame timer though, it really was easier to just use a Label here because I didn’t feel like setting up a custom pixel art font just to display some numbers. I added the Quit button to the main menu, and made the Play button green. Now, the main thing I have left is making a death screen, and probably one more minigame.
Created a third minigame, death screen, and a speedrun timer The third level is biology themed, and you have to click on all the living organisms. I used a Godot TextureButton for each item, and the incorrect answers make you restart the level. I also implemented a lose screen, which is one of the final requirements for the mission, so I’m getting pretty close to the end. Finally, I made a system to track your fastest time to complete all three minigames. I think I might be shipping soon!
Final touches on the README, itch.io page, player movement, and sound effects I finished the GitHub readme file and added a short gameplay gif to attract the reader’s attention. This will probably be the last devlog before I ship!

What is SchoolWare? You may want to fullscreen the game to make it a bit more immersive, but it works either way....

I also created the detailed project widget, and made pseudocode for the rendering of it, however it is not fully implemented. Since the individual project pages will be a simple get request from the Modrinth API, it the detailed widget will just be constructing a different URL to perform the get request (as I will not be using the ‘search?’ part of the API). I am also planning to add Curseforge support, but that will only be done once the full Modrinth pipeline is done. I will likely commit the code tomorrow, as right now I am experiencing issues with committing to a different branch in GitHub, as I don’t want to commit to main, since that is only for releases."}, {"post_id": 79410, "ts": "2026-10-13T20:59:17Z", "hours": 2.8686, "text": "Simple Mod Manager is a lightweight utility that allows players to easily enable, disable, and manage their installed mods without manually moving files. For Stardance, I am trying to add the two most complicated features-creating an in game mod, resourcepack, and shader downloader, as well as a mod hot-swap to update mods in real time to avoid a full game restart. These will be difficult to perfect mostly because I have barely any experience in JVM class loading, and I have done little to no work with file downloading. Before Stardance, I had planned to make a separate mod called ModGuard with these things added, however I realized there wasn’t many features to add to it, and since I already had a decent user base to Simple Mod Manager, I decided to merge the two instead, so that users wouldn’t ever have to leave the game, or even restart it when installing any modifications (super helpful for modpack creators and streamlining the creation process)! 1. Download System: I fixed the download pipeline. For whatever reason, before fetching stuff from the api wasn’t working, and today I fixed that. It came down to a mix of a few issues both involving my internet connection, as well as a broken enum.toString() method getting called, which caused a crash. The old download system also didn’t support resourcepacks and shaders, so I added a few fields to the widget class, and made an enum to represent that (ProjectType). Now whenever fetching from the API, I must specify the type which I am getting (e.g. ProjectType.MOD), and it will filter for mods in the facets. After that was done and tested, I had the whole pipeline for downloading done, meaning I just needed something to represent the mods. 2. Screen System: I made a screen which had the facet buttons, project widgets, search bar, and tab bar. Since these were all stored inside of ArrayLists, I would only have to call the render method for each button within a for loop, making the rendering process super easy. After getting that to work, I added a few background containers, as well as a method to auto detect when a button/search query was changed and fetch the project details for the user. Now I just have to add automatic scrolling detection which will automatically call the API when I am out of projects to see. In order to avoid overlap, I will use the offset and limiters inside the Modrinth API query to skip the first set of mods which the user already saw, and then display the next set, by simply adding them to the ArrayList.. Next Steps: After I add those small features, the next step will be to extend the project widget class in order to make a more detailed version for when you actually click on the project to download it."}]...
