Joystick Journey is a full e-commerce website for a physical product I actually built — a joystick-controlled marble maze with swappable boards. You can browse the product, pick your maze color, joystick color, and bundle size, check out securely, and get a confirmation email automatically. The product is real and already has its first sales. What was challenging? Three things genuinely tripped me up. First, Next.js 15’s App Router has strict rules about client vs server components. I kept hitting “event handlers cannot be passed to client component props” and “useSearchParams must be wrapped in Suspense” errors that broke Vercel builds entirely. Second, getting Stripe to redirect back correctly after checkout required carefully managing environment variables between localhost and production. Third, confirmation emails kept landing in spam, turns out new domains always do this and you have to earn inbox placement over time through DKIM and DMARC records. What am I proud of? The whole thing looks and feels like a real premium brand. The dark UI with amber touches, Framer Motion scroll animations, particle backgrounds, and the product shop with color/bundle selectors all came together into something that genuinely looks like it could compete with established e-commerce stores. And it’s not just a demo because real people have bought the product through this site! What should people know to test it? Visit joystickjourney.shop. The full site is live. Browse the shop, try the color and bundle selectors, click “Swap the maze” on the home page to see the maze gallery, and watch the tutorial video. Devlogs:
I made an arcade machine with @Makkonen . It has an old laptop, old logitech pc speakers(with aliexpress amplifier), c64 mini controller, rgb strip, coin slot, artwork (space invanders and a car) and a lot of cardboard, paint and tape. The game it plays is a racing game that i made in unity in a a coding class and modified for more arcade feeling (for example, added start screen). The game has an opponent, boost button(in the bottom left corner), start screen, restart button, checkpoints(win condition) and music. In future updates there will be more levels(currently it only has one). Also the game is really hard with the c64 mini joystick. I will add future devlogs when i finish the painting because when we ripped some off the tape (to open the doors), it ripped also some of the tape off. Also we basically finished this project before realising that we need to record a timelapse. Thanks @Makkonen for helping me with this!
Second devlog of this project. First we removed the c64 mini joystick and the speakers. We replaced them with a racing wheel (i forgot that i had one) and the spekers we replaced with the elements and front casing of an old bluetooth speaker for better sound quality (still using the PAM8403 aliexpress amp). We also stabilized the laptop more so it won’t fall. We had to make more holes for the power button but we will fill them in the next devlog. We also added an useless cable and a warning sticker to the back for no reason. Made with @Makkonen
Third devlog. We added more artwork and finished painting. We made it possible to close the door again because the racing wheel was blocking it. Controller (wheel) now works properly. We added an useless antenna to the back for no reason. Made with @Makkonen
Fourth devlog. Massive game update! We updated the map with more stuff, people, gas pumps, flowers and fire. We also changed the boost text’s language to english, made the start text blink, added a lap system and made it so you can also look backwards. For the machine we added a ventilation system(right now it isn’t the best though) and put back the box around the screen. We also put a wooden chair that I made in school so you can sit while you play. Really great. Next devlog I will probably add a second level or something. Made with @Makkonen
Another big game update! Here is what we did: 1. Added a secret button to make AI go crazy by setting it’s rotation speed to 0.1 :D 2. Added a difficulty changer, difficulties: Easy: the ai is a little slower and starts behind the player Normal: just normal gameplay Hard: The AI is faster and the player is slower (to win you almost have to use shortcuts) 3. Bumping into the AI car is now funnier, because now it stops the AI car from fixing itself so it can now go flying :D) 4. If you didn’t hit all checkpoints before hitting the finish line, the game now tells you about it in the lap counter text 5. If the player wins, the camera goes on top of the AI car so you can see where it was. 6. If you fall through the ground, the game now puts you to where you were instead of the start Then we also fixed a lot of bugs , most of the were caused by the new features. Next devlog we will actually add the second level (and fix some issues with the machine) and then the project is completed ! (also and the video below isn’t the most clear but it showcases all the added features)
PLEASE READ THE LAST DEVLOG BEFORE WATCHING THIS VIDEO This is the video that was supposed to be in my last devlog but it bugged and I couldn’t attach it
Devlog 7 Project is in a bad shape but we are forced to do a devlog because of the 10 hour limit . We took the laptop out so we could make a intake hole for the laptop so it doesn’t overheat. We fixed some paint issues and applied a layer of paint protection. We also added a RFID card reader that starts the game. We also added a controls text to the machine. The game now has a first person mode and FOV slider . We also added some stuff inside the machine so it’s more stable and we added a 3d-printed lock mechanism so the door stays in place better. We also added a hack club stiker.
Devlog 8 The project should now be ready to ship! (I still have to edit the GitHub repo) Last devlog we took the laptop out, so we could make intake holes so we did that. The we installed a intake fan to the back of the machine for more airflow. We mainly just painted some stuff and also used some hot glue to smooth out some surfaces. We also added some KuuppaKart artwork ! You can also play the game for yourself! (link at the end of this devlog). We also made the funny thing around the screen look a bit better . Also we added a time system to the game that shows lap time, race time, and best time. So overall we just made the machine look better . (I probably just can’t remember because it’s been over a month) Link to the game
Devlog 9 Even though the machine is completed, the game isn’t. (nor the repo) This is just a game update. Fixed bugs, like AI only driving two laps on easy mode and many others! Updated UI, now it looks better maybe Added a speedometer to replace the old boost text. It also shows your speed. Added more realistic driving: acceleration! Now you don’t immediately reach max speed or stop. This makes the experience way better! Player can now fly back when crashing hard Changed one slope in the map, can you spot the change? Also I added seven easter eggs hidden around the map The difficulty selection screen UI is currently bugged, I will fix it next devlog. I will also optimize the game more. Download the game here or play online
Devlog 10 This is gonna be the last devlog before I ship. I have now completed the repo and made showcase videos. Then for the game updates: Fixed UI bugs Added pause menu with graphics settings Changed animations for the people around the map, still not that good Camera now looks more “realistic” Added a smooth animation when camera moves to top of AI (when player wins) Changed winning screen to look a bit better maybe Then I also changed the map to a halloween theme.
Ships:
This is a DIY Arcade Machine I made with @Makkonen ! This has a racing wheel, a speaker, RGB lighting and more! It’s running a self made Unity driving game! More info about that(and everything else) is in the GitHub README here ! And in the devlogs. Dimensions and other stuff are also available in GitHub, but the point of this project was, that you don’t have to buy stuff to make cool hardware. That’s why everything isn’t that detailed, because it isn’t really possible here, but I did my best. Here is a showcase video (both machine and game): YouTube...

MeowOS (placeholder name) My first html project! I had some prior basic html knowledge, but that was a long time ago. I chose this mission because: I want to improve my website development skills This mission gives practically infinite possibilities for apps, so I have a lot of creative freedom With the first 100 minutes now logged, this is what I completed: a desktop background a top bar a clock a temporary non-draggable window I’m trying to not use pixels as measurement since I want the website to work on all resolutions. I’ll see if that will work out. All in all, I’m very happy with the design. I got back into html and didn’t feel like anything was that challenging yet. I have never done Javascript though, that will probably be a bit harder.
MeowOS Devlog #2 Learning Javascript Javascript took me a while to figure out. I found getting the Javascript file to work with the website a bit confusing, but the guide helped me through it. I have added: App icons (though not all of them assigned) two apps (still empty) draggable close / open them the selected app sits on top. I look forward to coding my first proper app with functions. That’s all :D
MeowOS Devlog #3 Still learning Javascript Javascript is still kind of confusing for me, I’m starting to figure it out though. Notes App I finished my first app with functionality. You can write stuff in it. Unlimited new note pages can also be created and there is a button to wipe everything. Looking forward to adding additional content :D
MeowOS Devlog #4 Getting the hang of Javascript I made my own Stopwatch app without following the guide. Took me a while but I completed it and I am very happy with the result. I am now trying to do some more complex apps before shipping this project. I still have some work to do, as the To-Do List App is not finished and a terminal App is missing. That’s all .D
MeowOS Devlog #5 I fixed some bugs. I didn’t do too much. It is now time to ship this project. I hope that it works!
MeowOS Devlog #6 It’s a long one… Since I finally got my ship approved, I can now post my 9 hour devlog D: I added a bunch of things and improved the design by a lot: New Design, looks much prettier Animations for interactive elements A command terminal, you can open windows with it A calculator, to calculate stuff ;-; a WIP music player (I need to find songs) A start menu before loading the OS. Took me quite a while to figure out. Javascript isn’t really a problem anymore. I really enjoyed updating the design in CSS using :hover and keyframes. I’m very happy of how it all turned out.
MeowOS Devlog #7 Music App I finally finished the music application. I still have to find some songs I am allowed to put in there. Loading Screen I also added a loading screen with a cat-shaped loading bar. Took me a while to figure out how an svg works. The text also has an animation to make it more interesting. Easter egg I added an easter egg. It’s not much and not that difficult to find, but I won’t reveal what it is. That’s all :D
MeowOS Devlog #8 Another kinda long one…I got a bit carried away. Maximize windows I finally added a function to maximize certain windows. There were way too many bugs associated with that feature, that took way too long. Especially hiding the top bar while a window is maximized. Loading screen I also made the loading screen stay a bit longer on screen so people with high internet speeds will still be able to see it. Gallery Probably the easiest task of this devlog. Not much to say about it, it’s a gallery with pictures. Search menu This one worked surprisingly well. I somehow got the search function right in the first two attempts. Very fun to make. Light / Dark mode I changed my mind. This was the easiest task. I was avoiding this since I thought it would be super complicated, but it turns out it’s not. :D That’s all I did. I still have a few apps in mind, so I’ll start working on those soon.
MeowOS Devlog #9 File explorer! This was by far the hardest window to implement. Took me quite a while to figure out the recursive functions to browse through the files. Features: Create folders Create text files Write things in text files Delete files and folders Everything is saved to localStorage This was very fun. Javascript got kind of difficult but it turned out great. I will probably create some widgets now. :D
MeowOS Devlog #10 Bug fixes and control center Not much to say about this one. I spent a long time fixing a bunch of bugs and polishing the website. I also added a control center to the top right. I gotta find some creative ideas to add to this hmm…
MeosOS Devlog #11 More bug fixes and also widgets!!! I did some more bug fixing with the dark and light mode as well as window scaling. I think all bugs should be gone now, though I’m not entirely sure I didn’t miss any. Widgets I added three widgets: cat you can click to meow calendar a minimalist round clock That’s all. I hope I can ship this now. (Though I am a bit paranoid of issues I didn’t notice)
MeowOS Devlog #12 Some small stuff Resizable windows! I made most windows resizable. I had to fix a lot of CSS for that, but I’m glad it works now. Also tweaked some minor stuff. (Notice how windows are smaller in the picture)
MeowOS Devlog #13 Themes! I decided do a complete overhaul of the themes. Instead of dark and light mode, there are no five different themes to choose from. I had to refactor almost everything since the code from before was pretty poorly made. Browser URL bar The browser URL bar works now! You can now enter website addresses and they should show up. (Do note that some websites block iframes and may not work). Some sound effects I added a typing and clicking sound effect. You need to enable it in settings. Small tweaks I finally changed the notes delete button. Instead of deleting every page, it now only deletes the current one. I found out why the music player playlist wasn’t getting resized along with the window, I was able to fix it with just one line of CSS code. Fixed the stopwatch reset button not changing the play button’s icon if the time was still running.

I really over complicated things while trying to make it work, found out it was just a one single line of code that was needed. This should be all I think
MeowOS Devlog #15 Some small changes before shipping! Made the clicking and typing sound be turned on by default Changed some window width settings Changed terminal commands a bit Fixed the search menu icon size I should be able to ship this now.
MeowOS Devlog #16 Bug fixes (a lot) With the help of a totally trustworthy AI, I found a bunch of edge cases, bugs and typos. Also added some stuff So I fixed them one by one over the course of 2 hours (and also updated the README and added some small stuff). Some of the bugs I found and fixed: Mistyped the volume muted icon Sound effect weren’t applied the audio level Some stuff I added: Opening browser shortcuts now uses the dedicated function instead of plain HTML Terminal now works better Keyboard support for Calculator
