I still haven’t chosen a name for the project yet, but after an embarrassing amount of time (and unfortunately a bit of AI help) I finally have a functional basic search bar with the ability switch providers. For search providers I chose: Ecosia (default) Startpage Brave search Qwant These may change in the future but I plan to move onto adding widgets and other features first.
I’ve decided on Frutiger-Tab ! A Frutiger-Aero themed search tab. Roadmap: Added an aesthetic design with subtle blurring Added a functional shortcuts system for four customisable shortcuts saved locally Add more wallpaper options Finalize usability and compatibility Give it a go at Frutiger-Tab .
Almost finished! Added the final functions I need before shipping just need to add a few things to improve useability Added various wallpaper options including Nasa’s daily astronomy image (only via the github page not self hosted) Added dark/light themes (although slight styling bug in attached image) Allow dark/light preference to overrride device theme Add button to enter search AI disclosure: The Nasa api integration was fully AI generated as NASA had introduced a new setup and the official documentation website was down so my attempts failed.
All Done! Added search button Checked usability Fixed bugs
Added search history widget This small section shows up to four of your most recent searches and they are functional so you can click them to revisit. Probably will reship to include this.
Ships:
Frutiger Tab A new tab search page featuring: A modern Frutiger-Aero style 4 customizable shortcuts Multiple themed wallpapers (including NASA’s daily photo) 4 choices of search engine Dark/Light themes Had fun using local website cache to store customized features. Hackpad blog: Currently working on adding parts to the schematic. I am either going to go with 9 keys in a 3x3 matrix, or the 3x3 matrix with the addition of 2 rotary encoders and the OLED screen. After I’m done wiring everything, I will route the PCB together.
Hackpad blog 2: Finished Schematic, working on routing PCB. So far i have finished the schematic. I decided to delete the 2nd rotary encoder since I don’t see a justification for using it, as the first rotary is enough. Now, I need to learn to route the PCB, as well as align it nicely. Hopefully, I’ll be able to finish the PCB design soon. Then I will design the CAD case, then create the firmware.
PCB Routing + Finish PCB Design I routed the PCB together and I finished the PCB design. Now I need to create the case in CAD software, then write the firmware. Hopefully I can finish both tomorrow. To route the PCB, I used 2 layers. The OLED, switch matrix, and rotary encoder are all on the front, while the microcontroller and diodes are in the back. This allows me to have a more clean design.
Learning CAD for the case (Macropad/hackpad) I have been designing my case for the macropad i’m building in CAD (onshape, as I am a bit more familiar with the software over Fusion or Solidworks). I am having a bit of trouble getting everything to fit within tolerance, but I have found a work around solution. More designing tomorrow.
Macro-pad Case Part 1 I spent forever fixing the assembly and sketch, but now I’ve finally finished up the case design (aside from the fillet feature). Everything fits for the most part....

Devlogs:
I have currently added a window. I have struggled with making it draggable but it can close properly. I plan on adding more apps or windows. I plan to make it fit a certain theme, by adding certain images.
I have added a background colour. I might add some extra apps such as a calculator.
my web os complete
had to rewrite some of the code
added a photo gallery with my items instead
Ships:
I made a WEBOS about myself with 3 specific apps. It contains a shopping list, a calculator and a notepad. It was challenging to make the shopping list. It was difficult to code in Javascript, which I did more effectively through the use of AI.
I just made me own web operating system! hehe. It has a photo gallery and it’s own welcome screen....

didn’t touch the repo for like 1 week, so the portfolio just sat there gathering dust. anyway i’m back and i actually shipped a good chunk, so let me catch up. manifesto: a quiet moment on the site, no webgpu, just four lines of text. i split them with SplitText and clip a gray→ink gradient to the glyphs, then scroll slides the background so the dark ink fills each line in from the left. once they’re all dark the whole section fades to ink and the text flips to cream — it inverts into the footer palette right before it unpins. annoying bug: the pin adds 300% scroll and the footer triggers (created earlier) fired too early, so i sort into document order and refresh after the split. footer: classic big mailto headline with a hover underline wipe, socials, and a bottom bar. everything reveals on one timeline when it scrolls in. back-to-top routes through lenis for a smooth scroll with an instant fallback. footer image: the starry-night img has a tiny webgpu canvas on top that copies its object-cover crop, so mousing over it warps the pixels with a little chromatic aberration. the distortion is a cpu grid (base 15, capped 128) — splat pointer velocity into nearby cells, relax back to zero each frame, write it into an 8-bit RG DataTexture the shader samples. and it’s lazy: an IntersectionObserver only mounts the canvas near the viewport, frameloop off when it’s not on screen, plain as the fallback. costs nothing till you scroll to it."}, {"post_id": 27168, "ts": "2026-07-12T14:17:35Z", "hours": 5.2806, "text": "featured work section: the design is the classic table: four columns — website, category, services, year — with a massive “Featured Work” headline on top. i made the title do a little type trick: “Featured” is just an outline (transparent fill + text-stroke) and “Work” is solid, both bold and stretched to the full width of the screen. cheap to render, looks like i tried way harder than i did. the fun part is the hover. when you mouse over a row, a preview image of that project fades in and follows your cursor around. i used gsap quickTo for the x/y so the image trails the mouse with this smooth lag instead of being glued to it, and i feed the horizontal mouse velocity into a slight rotation so the card tilts in the direction you’re moving. tiny detail, sells the whole thing. also learned the hard way that you need to snap the preview to the cursor BEFORE the first fade-in, otherwise it flies in from wherever it was last time. one gsap.set and the jank is gone. the annoying part: this section doesn’t live on the page like a normal section. it sits inside the techstack pin from #4, behind that ink parabola that swallows the screen. so a regular scrolltrigger inside it just fires at the wrong time — the element is pinned at the top of the viewport the entire time, the trigger math is meaningless. took me a minute to accept that the reveal can’t belong to the section at all. it has to be part of the parent timeline. so right after the parabola covers everything, the same scrub that drove the logos now raises the title and cascades the rows in one by one. projects in the table are mock data with placeholder svgs for now. the site has a featured work section and no actual featured work. next step is filling it with real projects."}, {"post_id": 24696, "ts": "2026-07-08T13:49:21Z", "hours": 12.2989, "text": "so the face particles look great on my machine but the second i opened the site on a cheaper laptop my heart sank. it was chugging. like slideshow chugging. and this whole project has one rule i promised myself: silky on high-end, but still actually usable on low-end. so a section that only runs well on my own gpu is basically a broken section. i tried everything to save it. dropped the particle count way down, then dropped it again. wired up the frameloop so the canvas only renders when it’s actually on screen and pauses when you scroll away or tab out. all of that helped a bit but not enough — it was still the heaviest thing on the page by a mile and the low-end numbers barely moved. at some point you have to admit the effect just wants more gpu than i’m allowed to spend. so i’m parking the face for now (code’s still there, i’ll come back to it) and building out the tech stack section instead, something that leans on scroll and layout instead of the gpu. the idea: your logos stream across the screen as you scroll while a big “Techstack” headline sits locked in the center. but they don’t just slide past in a straight line — each card arcs above or below the center line and curves around the headline, like the text has gravity and the logos are in orbit around it. cards on even positions bend one way, odd ones bend the other, so it reads as this constant weave flowing past the title. the fun part is the math is all cpu, basically free. the row scrolls horizontally on a pinned scrolltrigger, and every frame i just measure where each card is relative to the headline. the closer a card gets to the title, the more it lifts off the center line to clear it (so nothing ever overlaps the text), and it eases back down as it leaves — that’s the orbit curve. i also give cards a little scale bump right as they cross the middle of the screen so there’s a soft focal point in the center. no shaders, no particles, no webgpu. runs smooth everywhere, which is the whole point."}, Ok so this section basically ate my whole week lol. like 15 hours for ONE page?? and the crazy part is i wasn’t even doing design, i just kept trying random ideas until one felt right. The whole thing is based on “The Creation of Adam” (that famous painting with the two hands almost touching). I thought it’d be sick to have two hands slide in from both sides while the hero closes, kinda like the split second before the fingers touch.i built the hands like 3 times ngl: first in 3d with three.js. looked cool but felt way too heavy and kinda too on the nose then i did an ascii version where the letters react to your mouse. way more my style but still not it and finally pixels, which is the one i kept. each hand is a grid of pixels that twinkle by themselves and light up when you hover, and the pixel sizes give it this little depth thing. The one thing killing me rn is the colors. they’re just kinda mid honestly. so i think i’m gonna do some research, and repaint the whole site properly.
About me section time. I went looking at how other people do theirs and it’s always the same move: a nice portrait photo, big and confident. which is a problem for me because… I don’t have a single cool picture of myself lol. i’m a bit camera shy and every photo i have looks like a hostage situation. So instead of just taking a better photo like a normal person, my brain went “why not 3d scan your face?”. found out you can do it with just a phone camera, downloaded polycam, walked around my own head like an idiot for 10 minutes and… it looked TERRIBLE. like melted wax figure terrible. i felt genuinely bad about it ngl. So now, my 22uf capacitors are at 0805 and my 1uf capacitors are 0605. I also changed my led’s to be smaller(0402) because it was going to get squished by the TPU mounts for the FC. If I actually wanted to do it this way, I would need to spend like 500$ for a reflow oven or something. Now, everything is on the top level and I made the Schotty diode further from the MCU bu pushing the USB-C cable further away. Oh yeah, I left the 8 pin JST connecter on the bottom so it can connect to the ESC."}, {"post_id": 51429, "ts": "2026-08-21T04:05:36Z", "hours": 3.8169, "text": "I have finished the FC!. I have like 10 pads for different functions like boot, future GPS extensions and VTX and ESC connectivity. For the VTX and ESC, I added backup pads just in case the JST connecters dont work or pin order is different. I just finished configuring everything in the schematics editor in kicad. Right now, im designing a custom FC for my drone because im not allowed to use a prebuilt one. Next up is designing it in the PCB editor
Made a LOT of progress today. I have finished the schematic(updated for 3s batteries) and finished organizing the PCB layout. im trying to make it as small as possible and as good looking, but currently isnt looking too good because the gyro cannot be too close to high voltage components so I need to isolate them and it just doesnt look too good(3d viewer)
I finished tracing all of the lines for the FC. I also put it into JLCPCB its crazy expensive like $130 usd without shipping
I was going through my schematic and I realized that I made some major mistakes that could cause the FC to not work. I let AI scan it and a bunch of my resistor and capacitor calculations were wrong, and my pin wiring was messed up so I had to redo the entire thing again. Im planning on also making it an AIO instead so I get the ESC and FC on the same board.
I have created phase A,B, and C for MOTOR_1. these are the 3 mosfets and FD6288Q IC. I need to repeat this 4 times in total. Im currently looking for a better alternative for the MCU because I would need to have 4 of them so I need a 48 pin MCU that is compatible and its really hard to find
Instead of using a AIO FC and ESC, Im using a 20x20 stack. This is because I realized that if I designed it myself, the components would be way to close together and cause problems. Next up is designing the PCB
I have finished the FC!. The shape is a bit weird, mainly the top right corner. That is because the 3d frame that I will be using cuts really close to there so im not taking any risks! Compared to my last design, this one has way less capacitors and resisters which make it cheaper and easier to solder. I have like 10 pads for different functions like boot, future GPS extensions and VTX and ESC connectivity. For the VTX and ESC, I added backup pads just in case the JST connecters dont work or pin order is different. I have also worked on the firmware/software for it.
I have made edits to my FC again because I realized how hard soldering everything would be. I would need a hot plate and heat gun to solder and that might not be enough. Before, all of the electronic components were on the bottom, and the MCU and GYRO(and their respective electronics) were on the top. If I actually wanted to do it this way, I would need to spend like 500$ for a reflow oven or something. Now, everything is on the top level and I made the Schotty diode further from the MCU bu pushing the USB-C cable further away. Oh yeah, I left the 8 pin JST connecter on the bottom so it can connect to the ESC.
The FC should be done maybe this time?? I said it was done but I realized that I made the capacitor sizes wrong. I did everything at the 0402 size, which is actually too small for some components like the 22uF capacitors. So now, my 22uf capacitors are at 0805 and my 1uf capacitors are 0605. I also changed my led’s to be smaller(0402) because it was going to get squished by the TPU mounts for the FC. Finally, I added 3d models to all of the components and I modified the board edge so that the USBC port would stick out, and so that the board would not be as big.
Custom FC V5 is here: I have made a LOT of changes like last time. Changes : Board size: It went from 39x36mm to 32x30mm. This was a lot more challenging compared to 39x36 since I had to pack everything so closely and there was so little space for larger traces. I made these changes because I decided to place the flight controler in a 2 inch drone instead of 3.5 inch....
