Fixed by scoping comparisons to the actual body regions with no model in the loop, publishing a baseline next to every result so a cheating pass can’t hide again. Smaller lessons banked too: a slider silently defaulting to zero killed half its usable range, one rig type needed its math in a different coordinate space entirely or it silently did nothing, leftover scene state poisoned later measurements, and naive bone-weight assignment broke the hip region specifically. The first scene of the game is also working. The Play and Exit buttons are functional, with the Exit button having a confirmation prompt to prevent accidental exits. One of the hardest things I have worked on so far has been the Rule Tiles and Unity’s animation system. What a headache it was to solve all the visual bugs I encountered along the way. Right now I have a problem with the void tiles (I think the problem is the spritesheet AJKAJKSJ) The game is still in a very, very early stage . Right now, there are no actual obstacles—only rocks that appear at dead ends. Their positions are currently hard-coded because I mainly wanted to test how the rock assets looked in the game. There is also already some enemy code implemented, but I have not worked on the enemy sprites yet. Therefore, there are no enemies, no obstacles; only the map changes every time you enter a new run One of the biggest things I have learned from this project is that drawing is soooooooo hard… and/or I absolutely suck at drawing.", "repo": "https://github.com/Nicormu/Ephemeral", "demo": "https://nicormu.itch.io/ephemeral"}]...

Right now, there are no actual obstacles—only rocks that appear at dead ends. Their positions are currently hard-coded because I mainly wanted to test how the rock assets looked in the game. There is also already some enemy code implemented, but I have not worked on the enemy sprites yet. Therefore, there are no enemies, no obstacles; only the map changes every time you enter a new run One of the biggest things I have learned from this project is that drawing is soooooooo hard… and/or I absolutely suck at drawing.
Since my last ship, the game went from “a map that changes every run” to something you can actually play. The mine still generates randomly, but now it has things in it. Enemies finally exist! The grounded ones path around rocks, pits and fire (after a lot of pain with pathfinding), while the flying ones just ignore everything. There’s also a ranged enemy that shoots at you, but only if it has a clear line of sight. You can fight back with a basic left-click attack that knocks enemies away. It has no animation yet, so it looks a bit sad, but it works. The rooms now behave like a real roguelite: doors lock when you’re inside a room with enemies and open once it’s cleared, some obstacles can be destroyed, and fire hurts you if you step on it. I also added a minimap, a death screen, and you can hold R to reset the dungeon. On the polish side, there’s now music and SFX with volume sliders, a curtain transition between the menu and the game, and the bats finally have their death animation. I’m also working on a new player sprite sheet, because the current one doesn’t match the vibe of the game. Drawing is still sooooo hard, and I still absolutely suck at it JAKSJASJK. Still no boss or memory system, but the foundation is getting solid. Feedback is very welcome!...

Try it out here: Android: https://expo.dev/accounts/ashermemon/projects/never-leftover-new/builds/5fa5640f-6a34-4513-8dc3-4af86768a41b IOS: https://testflight.apple.com/join/gyUzY9ur After working on achievements, icons, and dark mode in the last devlog, I decided to move on to smaller details across the app. I started by adding subtle animations in certain areas of the app and tinting shadows rather than keeping them always black. I also removed an old text input at the top of the home screen and replaced it with a surprise me button and made it look cool (generates a random recipe on click). Finally, I added a toast notification when the user unlocks an achievement, which I think looks pretty neat. These new changes, however, came with a whole bunch of new bugs to fix, which meant a lot of tedious work. After adding these features, I worked on more of the under the hood stuff. I completely restructured my MMKV storage (stores all the saved recipes and other stuff) as there were a lot of problems with my previous system. I did this by making lots of helper functions and using structured records rather than using random variables. Additionally, I moved the meal images to my supabase and made my code fetch them from there, so that they aren’t included in the app build (that would take up extra space). Finally, I added profile picture uploading on the profile tab, made some smaller changes, and created the beta builds of the app for you to try out! Here are some screenshots!"}, {"post_id": 49386, "ts": "2026-08-18T05:33:56Z", "hours": 10.255, "text": "Devlog 8 SAVED RECIPES, achievements, new icons, haptics and MORE With the redesign of the profile page in the last devlog, I had one more key page to rework: the saved recipes page. Previously, it was a really ugly list of recipe names inside boxes, and that was about it. So I started by routing the profile saves button to a new “Saves Home” page with different recipe categories (Sweet Treats, Quick Snacks, etc.). I then made the AI generating the recipes also classify which categories the recipe fits into. These category cards go to the page and display the actual recipes when clicked. So I made a new recipe card component (looks much nicer and includes details and a photo instead of just the title) and filtered the recipes to display the correct ones based on which category card was clicked. A bonus feature I decided to add was achievements. I set up the area for them in the last devlog, and this time I worked on coming up with them and displaying them on the profile. I realized, however, that the emojis I was using weren’t going to cut it for this, so I went on a hunt for a nice 3D icon pack. I ended up finding a few icon packs that were similar enough to use across the entire app. And so, I migrated to these new 3d icons next, which I think made the app look a lot more polished. I also decided to go through some bugs, fix them and add missing haptic feedback across the app. Here are some screenshots of achievements and the save pages (in dark mode cuz i like it)!"}, {"post_id": 47103, "ts": "2026-08-14T19:04:57Z", "hours": 14.6722, "text": "Devlog 7 Grocery List, Dark Mode, Profile and more! With the ingredient search api implemented last devlog, I started off by testing and tweaking it a bit. Next I made same changes to the home page, and made the browse recipe by category buttons work (so now you can scroll through lunch recipes or dessert recipes from the home page!). I realized that my project was getting kinda cluttered with old components, packages and styles, so I cleaned up everything that was no longer in use. The next feature I wanted to add was a grocery list that adds ingredients to the pantry when the user checks them off. I also added features to re use your list by unchecking all items. I then completely restarted the profile page as well as I hadn’t updated it from my old design from months ago. Here I added a dark mode / light mode toggle switch that controls the theme of the app. I spent a couple days just tweaking both the light mode and dark mode color palettes as well as making minor changes like shadows. There’s still some work to get done on the profile page and saves page, so that’s what I will be working on next! Here are some screenshots of the changes!"}, {"post_id": 42240, "ts": "2026-08-06T21:09:21Z", "hours": 10.3269, "text": "Devlog 6 Ingredient search API! After finishing up the core pantry functionality last devlog, I had one more crucial feature to implement: a way to actually search for and add ingredients. For this, I used the OpenNutrition Foods database as it fit my needs best. I then went through and removed duplicates, branded items and more! The next step was setting up Supabase with this dataset so I could call it in the app, which took a while. After setting it up, I created the search feature in the app, styled it, and fixed A LOT of bugs. I ended up adding a category column to the dataset by synthetically generating values with Gemini as well as a popularity score column. The popularity score helps inform which ingredients appear first when searching. I also implemented the Browse Ingredients mode that allows the user to pick specific ingredients to generate with rather than their whole pantry. I made the search from the pantry into a component and reused it here, just adding to a temporary list of Ingredients rather than to the pantry. Other than those changes, I pretty much worked on bugfixes and implementing small changes like being able to rename the pantry after creation. Here are some screenshots of the new features!"}, {"post_id": 31617, "ts": "2026-07-20T05:11:53Z", "hours": 12.7664, "text": "Devlog 5 Pantry development and more! After I redesigned the pantry in the last devlog, I began developing it in the app! I started by making a reusable onboarding sequence component and then using this component for the user’s first time on the pantry page (setup). It walks the user through naming their pantry, adding an icon, and adding ingredients! Creating this component, however, came with bug after bug and required reshaping a lot of the app. For instance, in order to fit my new pantry system, I had to completely change the way the ingredients and pantry details were stored and retrieved on different pages. After finishing the onboarding portion, I developed the actual pantry page that is shown after setup, displaying ingredients with filters and a search bar. In addition, I worked on colours and made some minor tweaks to the entire app. As for next steps, I definitely need to get an ingredient API hooked up so I can search through ingredients to add to the pantry. Here is a screenshot of the new design in the app!"}, {"post_id": 15931, "ts": "2026-06-25T21:33:26Z", "hours": 4.1111, "text": "Devlog 4 – June 15-25, 2026 Pantry page design and development! Last devlog, I finished the generator page, meaning the next necessary step was to allow the user to add ingredients. I created the pantry page to serve this purpose, allowing users to either snap a photo of their fridge and pantry or manually add ingredients. I first created a design in figma, and once I thought it looked okay, I started developing it. About 3 hours through development, however, I started to find issues with the design including a lack of clear instructions and a difficult user experience. I used tiny tags for ingredients under dropdowns, making it difficult to navigate. Additionally, I didn’t have any features like choosing an expiration date or quantity, which are often crucial for keeping track of what you have. Because of these issues, I started from scratch, creating a whole new figma design. I probably spent ~6 hours on this, (and I realised that my hackatime figma extension thing wasn’t even tracking 😭), and I am quite happy with the design. I will be implementing it over the next week or so! Here is a messy screenshot of all the design attempts I made in figma. Devlog 2 – June 3-6, 2026 Another update on my recipe generator app: bugfixes, figma and images! In the future, I will definitely add more specific recipe categories (100+ categories) to make the images more accurate to the recipe. I also worked on some figma designs for other parts of the app! Here’s a little preview so far of swiping with the new images:
Devlog 3 – June 7-14, 2026 New Generator Page + LOTS of bugfixes! As I finished work on the recipes and swiping portion of the app in the last few weeks, the next page I wanted to work on was the generation page. This page holds all the settings for generation to set before swiping. The generation page I had before was very simple and unfinished, with only a place to add ingredients… so i deleted it and started from scratch. I started off by designing in figma and brainstorming what I wanted the page to have. I settled on 3 modes: Pantry, Select Ingredients, and Any Ingredients. Over the past week, I added all these controls with dropdowns and multi-select buttons that I created from scratch. When the user sets these settings, it modifies the input to the AI to make recipes to fit them. Here’s a video showing off the new page!
Devlog 4 – June 15-25, 2026 Pantry page design and development! The new ones are labelled pantry new, and it goes through a sequence to add ingredients! The other screenshot shows the overall new pantry design.
Devlog 5 Pantry development and more! Here is a screenshot of the new design in the app!
Devlog 6 Ingredient search API! Here are some screenshots of the new features!
Devlog 7 Grocery List, Dark Mode, Profile and more! Here are some screenshots of the changes!
Devlog 8 SAVED RECIPES, achievements, new icons, haptics and MORE With the redesign of the profile page in the last devlog, I had one more key page to rework: the saved recipes page. Here are some screenshots of achievements and the save pages (in dark mode cuz i like it)!
Devlog 9 BETA VERSION IS OUT! Here are some screenshots!...

After reading your reviews on my last ship, I spent time restructuring my code and adding some new features to make the OS feel much more like a real desktop. Here is what’s new: Local storage persistence: Polaris OS finally remembers your preferences! your custom accent colors and notepad entries now save automatically, so you won’t lose them when you reload the page. Achievements system: i added 5 brand-new unlockable achievements to find while exploring the OS (and yes, your progress saves via local storage too!). New dictionary app: look up any word instantly using the Openmuse API. you can use the new dictionary app, or just type define [word] straight into the terminal. Settings app & UI polish: built a dedicated Settings app to manage the OS. i also added a volume slider for the media player (which has new songs!), and hover-name overlays for taskbar apps. Performance & visual upgrades: designed a brand new, cooler loading animation, fixed the stretched confetti hitbox bug, and optimized the NASA APOD widget so high-res space images no longer lag the entire website. let me know what you think of the new apps and if you manage to unlock all the achievements!", "repo": "https://github.com/KaiTheGreat-123/polaris-os", "demo": "https://kaithegreat-123.github.io/polaris-os/"}, {"ship_num": 2, "ts": "2026-09-11T12:27:41Z", "hours": 8.0, "multiplier": 11.4, "payout": 93, "blessing": "neutral", "text": "hey guys! i’m back with more big updates for polaris! since my last ship, i’ve been juggling my exams but still managed to add some really fun new features to make the OS feel even more alive and interactive. heres a list of every single new change i added since and the issues i had with adding them: Apps Music app: the music app was pretty fun to add and made polaris less boring, but i kept running into issues with adding the ui over the default ui (the white blob which did not match polaris at all) Gallery app: the gallery app is another addition, with a few pictures related to polaris. the difficult part was adding the transitions between changing the pictures, and loading the pictures without taking hours Terminal app: the terminal app is something i took inspiration from other webos’s, and it was actually hard to add and i also kept running into a issue where i could not type in the app at all, but i fixed it all and got it working! Other changes Dynamic wallpaper: i got a few people say that the wallpaper looked a little boring, so i added stars that float around the entire wallpaper and react with your cursor! TicTacToe bot: this one was a great learning experience but just as hard, took me a while to figure out what i was doing but i finally got there in the end and built a working bot to play against! Desktop widgets: i added 2 widgets, the analog time and the NASA APOD. the analog time was pretty straight forward, but the NASA APOD was a little hard, especially with adding a fallback because any video APOD just broke the widget. Devlog Title: polaris-os by @kai_lmao | Stardance
Devlogs:
Started working on my very own web-based OS! i am theming it after the star polaris, and currently it looks decent (i hope), i still have to go further and continue making it more functional and nicer, but so far i am happy with how it looks! feel free to give me ideas on how to make it look ever nicer :)
i added draggable windows which also open and close! i used a little bit of help from ai as i was getting confused, but i added a little bar on the top which acts as a drag box, and also has the close button on it! i also added buttons on the taskbar on the bottom so a closed window can be opened back up again! i also added the time to the taskbar, and neatened up my code a bit so its easier to understand and nicer to look at. i am proud of the progress i made!
started working on an app to implement into my web os! it does look a little whacky right now, but i will be fixing it soon and adding functionality to it.
i added the note taker app! now it has the ability to actually take notes, and it can be opened by double clicking and highlighted by single clicking. i also made it transparent using the blur feature and i think it goes pretty well with the rest of the OS!
i made a calculator! i am now adding more apps to polaris and i have started with adding a calculator which does all the simple functions, and i also neatened up the taskbar a bit by changing icon positions and adding borders around them to create uniformity!
added a timer! continuing on my quest of adding more apps to polaris, the newest addition is the timer. it can starts counting up and when you start it and pauses whenever you want it to, and it also is themed to match the rest of the website.
Tic-Tac-Toe! i added yet another app, the tic-tac-toe app! polaris felt a bit boring with only utility apps in it, so i added the new app to add a bit more fun! i themed it after space too, with players being the earth and the moon. it adds more color and vibrance to polaris too!
Calendar! polaris now has a calendar so you can check all the dates of the month! it also highlights the current date aswell. i also removed the name of the apps from the taskbar as it was starting to get cramped, and for my next task i am going to add animations to everything and make it look nicer!
After shipping my project i checked out all the ratings, and ive made a couple of changes to Polaris. Many people pointed out that it took multiple clicks to open apps, so i fixed that issue. now apps open with just one click, and they have a hover animation (when you hover over the app icon it becomes bigger) Fixed the project link not working Added animations for the windows opening and closing Added a higher resolution background Added an easter egg (hint:-click on polaris!) Added milliseconds to the timer Moved the calendar out of the taskbar and hidden away, it opens when you click on the time in the taskbar (like in windows) Merged the welcome window and links window into one information app for better organization in the taskbar Neatened up the app borders and size on the taskbar to be more visible going to start working on more apps now!
More changes! not as many as the last one, but here are all the changes i made: Added a boot up and loading screen! Added a weather app! type the place you want the weather of and it will show it to you! Added the feature where you can scroll thru months instead of the calendar being stuck on just the current month Added a purple hue around the windows to add more depth Changed the style of the taskbar a little bit Moved “PolarisOS” out of the taskbar and put it on the desktop instead to fill in empty space
A small devlog before i ship my project again but heres what i added: Added boot up, button clicking and calendar opening sound effects! (if the boot up sound does not play for you, it means that a browser security setting disabled it)
i more big features to polaris! its not a lot of changes, but the features i added were difficult for me to implement cause i kept making errors, but here are all the changes i made: Added a music player app! plays a set of songs that i uploaded Added a bot to tictactoe! it was way harder than i thought, but with a bit of help i managed to get it working. players now have the option to play against someone else or against a bot. Changed the logos off a bunch of the apps to look more consistent its a bit difficult to make progress while juggling exams, but i will be making a lot more changes soon!
many more changes! as im getting closer to the 10 hours that count per ship im going to ship once again after this devlog, but heres a list of all the changes i made since the last devlog: Added a gallery app! now you can see different pictures related to polaris and on how to find it. (it also was taking a while to load everytime, so i made it load pictures in advance, and a error message so the user knows whats going on just incase it dosnt load) Added widgets! there are now two new widgets, the nasa apod widget and the analog clock widget. they open by default, but you can collapse them out of view if they look too distracting! (the nasa apod also had an issue where if it was a video it broke, so i made it fallback to the previous day in that case) Added a playlist to the media app so now the user can see the list of all the songs and play them from there too. Added a dynamic wallpaper, theres now stars in the wallpaper that move around and react to your cursor! (i couldnt animate the wallpaper or find a better one, so i added a layer on the wallpaper with the stars moving around to make everything feel more dynamic) Added a terminal app with simple commands! you can now open apps and more using the terminal app. Neatened up the files in github too! with multiple songs and icons the github repo started to look very very messy so i made new folders and cleaned it up!
back with more updates! after shipping, i checked all the reviews and got to work implementing them! i first took some help with ai to restructure and reorganize my code since it was starting to get messy and hard to read and make new changes, then i started working on new apps! currently im working on adding the settings app! i spent around 2 hours on it, and i will add more to it and polish it up soon. i also added a volume slider for the music app, and added a name overlay for the apps on the taskbar which took about 30 minutes to do. please do let me know if theres any more changes or additions i can make to improve polaris!
hey guys! i have made more changes to polaris os today. firstly i added a new app! its a dictionary app and you can look up any word you like by typing it in the app, or by typing “define [word]” in the terminal. i tried to use dictionaryapi but realised its not very reliable, so the current api im using for this app is openmuse. secondly i added a new loading animation! i felt the loading star in the start felt a little boring, so i added more elements on all 4 sides of the screen so it looks way cooler! and a small change but i also added more songs into the playlist of the media player.
achievements! while thinking of ideas to add, i saw my friend unlock achievements and i thought why not add that to Polaris too? i added 5 new achievements and they even save after you reload the page! i am planning on adding localstorage to the other apps too, like settings and notepad. i also noticed that sometimes when the nasa apod is an extremely detailed of high definition image, the widget lags a lot when opening and closing. i need to find a way to fix that.
a few smaller changes before i ship again, there was an issue where the clickable box on the text for confetti was stretched across the entire screen, so i fixed that. Another issue that was there is that when the nasa apod was a very high res image, it made the entire website very laggy so i changed that to display url instead of the hdurl and lastly i added localstorage so polaris actually remembers a lot of the options like your notes and accent color changes that you change!
Ships:
i made a webOS that is themed after the Polaris star! it took me a few hours to get this far, and i am going to spend a few hours every weekend progressing it further by adding more apps, and giving it more functionality in general. a new feature i built is a taskbar on the bottom with the ability to open windows and applications, and see time from there instead of a top bar which was mentioned in the guide, so i could get a more windows/macOS feel to the webOS which is more familiar.
hey everyone! i built Polaris, a web-based OS based on a space theme! it feels just like a real OS experience right here in your browser! the whole thing is built by me completely from scratch, using HTML, CSS and JavaScript. it just started out as a simple introductory project, but once i started adding more things to it, it slowly turned into a whole operating system! the first app i added was the note taker, which was a simple tool to add temporary notes and reminders inside. after that, i added more apps like the calculator, timer, and tic-tac-toe (more coming soon)! all of these apps can run at the exact same time, and you can drag them all around the screen. the taskbar at the bottom gives you easy access to open any of the available apps, complete with icons that highlight when you tap them and a live clock. feel free to check out all the apps, drag the windows around, and see if you can beat your friends at tic-tac-toe! i plan on turning into a single tab with everything simple a person could need, so instead of opening multiple apps, anyone can just open one single tab and have all the simple tools they need in one place! i will continue working on this project as time passes, and i plan to add animations to everything, add an apps window, and ofc more apps! i hope you like my work :)
hey everyone! i’m back with more updates to Polaris, my web-based space-themed OS! since my last ship, i’ve made many changes to make it feel even more like a real, immersive desktop experience right in your browser. the biggest new tool is the weather app! you can just type in your desired city and it instantly fetches the real time temperature and weather conditions using an api. the live clock on the taskbar also got an update as clicking it now smoothly slides up an interactive calendar, complete with arrows so you can actually navigate through different months! it also removes the need to have its own app in the taskbar, and feels more like windows. i also completely revamped the ui and aesthetics! everything now has a glowing purple drop shadows around the edges of the windows (kinda like underglow on a car!). the taskbar icons now smoothly scale up when you hover over them to indicate that they are selected, and clicking them makes the apps fade into existence instead of just snapping in. i also merged the welcome and links pages into one big info window to keep the desktop clean. to make the whole OS feel alive, i built a brand new animated star filling loading screen, plus i added global sound effects! there’s a satisfying startup sound when the OS finishes booting, and click sounds whenever you open apps or navigate the UI. (there’s also a fun hidden easter egg on the desktop background that triggers star confetti if you click the text!) my goal is still to turn this into a single tab with everything simple a person could need in one place. i will continue working on this project, polishing the animations, and ofc adding more apps! feel free to drag the glowing windows around, check your local weather, and play around with the confetti! i hope you like my work :)
hey guys! i’m back with more big updates for polaris! since my last ship, i’ve been juggling my exams but still managed to add some really fun new features to make the OS feel even more alive and interactive. heres a list of every single new change i added since and the issues i had with adding them: Apps Music app: the music app was pretty fun to add and made polaris less boring, but i kept running into issues with adding the ui over the default ui (the white blob which did not match polaris at all) Gallery app: the gallery app is another addition, with a few pictures related to polaris. the difficult part was adding the transitions between changing the pictures, and loading the pictures without taking hours Terminal app: the terminal app is something i took inspiration from other webos’s, and it was actually hard to add and i also kept running into a issue where i could not type in the app at all, but i fixed it all and got it working! For the smaller changes i just changed the logos of a few apps to look consistent, cleaned up my github repo and changed the tab title. im getting pretty close to reaching where i want polaris to be. feel free to try out all the changes! hope you enjoy them :)
hey everyone! Performance & visual upgrades: designed a brand new, cooler loading animation, fixed the stretched confetti hitbox bug, and optimized the NASA APOD widget so high-res space images no longer lag the entire website. let me know what you think of the new apps and if you manage to unlock all the achievements!...

A little early but I just really want to show this!~ I added the bot into telegram!!!! Anyways, It’s barebones rn(actually I don’t think this is even considered working yet ;-;) but I can text to it and it replies!! I count that as a win!~
Hai Hai! So I’ve added a little bit more UI (hooray!) And now you can see the tasks you’ve added into the bot, there’s a few bit of clunkiness in it but hopefully I can iron it out soon!~ now to make it sound cooler….
Hello! I realized something when I posted this morning and that was that I didn’t had a way to figure out if a task is expiring or not (oh no! ) So I added this recheck feature that will handle that and the best part is that the code I used (which is to find the time remaining between the due date and today) can be reused in the future!!! (Yeyyyyy) Okie that’s all, buh bai!~
Running Running! I finally got it to run on nest!!!! WOOOO, Yeyyyy. I was reading the slack bot tutorial for so longggg and I was regretting not writing this in js ;-;. I had to do a bit of search to find that I need to make something called a virtual environment and after that, it wasn’t as bad! Now it can run for eternity! Muahahahaha (or until my nest expires :p)
I think I hate telegram, so after the ship was returned to me, I was stumped to why people can’t press the start bot button. I actually gave up on this project….Until my friend said to just remake it in slack! Now I have to be honest, I used AI for this part - . I’m sorryyyy , but I’m not a js coder, I barely could do that slack bot mission~~ I wanna finish this project before stardance ends. But I promise you guys I will actually learn it in the next YSWS when there’s ample time. “But this was 2 months agoo” shushhh, I..I was doing the other projects…. again I will try to not use AI as in the future anymore!~ (for writing code at least~)
Updated the readme too!~
Ships:
Imagine a bot that listens to your ramblings and converts it into a tasks that is placed in a virtual todo lists. That’s what I wanted to make!!!~ And I think it turned out well! For being the first time making a telegram bot, as well as interacting with AI APIs. I honestly think it’s really really REALLY cool! And of course, placing AI management under my “things I can do” belt. Hehehe~ <3...

This hardware revision allowed us to introduce major firmware variations: Firmware V003 ( XDQ-001F_V003.ino ) : Direct hardware support and pinout re-routing for the new BMI088 (dual-die SPI mode 0/3) and SPL06-001 barometer drivers. Firmware V004 ( XDQ-001F_V004.ino ) : Advanced sensor fusion algorithms including a 3rd-order Complementary Altitude & Vario Estimator (fusing SPL06 baro and BMI088 AccelZ at 1kHz for lag-free vertical speed estimation) and a PT2 (2nd-order) Low-Pass Notch Filter on the BMI088 gyro to suppress motor vibration noise before the PID loop. 🚀 XDQ-001 Devlog: Sensor Suite Overhaul & Vario Fusion Here is a quick update on the latest hardware and firmware milestones for the XDQ-001 flight platform. 1. PCB Hardware Upgrade (August 12th) We upgraded the onboard sensor suite to industrial-grade components. The FCB now houses a Bosch BMI088 IMU (separate gyro/accel dies for superior vibration resistance) and a Goertek SPL06-001 high-resolution barometer. The SPI CS routing was updated accordingly (GYRO CS & ACC CS on PA4, MAG CS on PA3, BARO CS on PA0). 2. Driver Integration & V003 Firmware (August 12th) With new hardware comes updated firmware. We wrote dedicated drivers for the BMI088 (handling its dual SPI Mode 0 / Mode 3 requirements and ±24G / ±2000 dps scaling) and the SPL06-001 (decoding its 18-byte calibration array). All of this was packed into XDQ-001F_V003.ino , keeping V002 safe as a backup. 3. 3rd-Order Vario & Altitude Fusion (August 12th) Why get better hardware if you aren’t going to push it? In XDQ-001F_V004.ino , we built a 3rd-order Complementary Altitude/Vario Estimator that runs inside the 1kHz ISR. It fuses earth-frame Z acceleration with barometric pressure to calculate instantaneous vertical velocity ( climbRate_mps ). Altitude lock during autonomous waypoint missions is now smoother than ever without any altitude lag. 4. PT2 Gyro Filtering & Tuning (August 12th) To clean up motor noise before it hits the PID controllers and the SO(3) geometric attitude loop, we added a 2nd-order Low-Pass Filter (PT2) with a 90Hz cutoff directly on the BMI088 gyro channels. We also re-tuned Mahony’s Adaptive Accel Gating to leverage the ±24G dynamic range during aggressive maneuvers."}, {"post_id": 39193, "ts": "2026-08-02T00:00:21Z", "hours": 7.35, "text": "🚀 XDQ-001 Devlog: The Last Month I know I disappeared for a month. Here is a quick, easy-to-read update on what I’ve recently been developing for the XDQ-001 drone. I have focused on simulating, visualizing, and refining the control and navigation algorithms to ensure smooth flight and navigation, as well as robustness under extreme conditions. 1. Teaching the Drone to Balance (July 19th) We kicked things off by focusing on the drone’s “attitude”—basically, how it balances and tilts in the air. We built the core logic (PID controllers) so the drone can stay stable even if we send it aggressive commands. To make sure everything was working right, we also set up some visual tools to watch the simulation data in real time. 2. Navigating and Visualizing the Path (July 26th) Next up: Navigation! We connected our new balancing act with algorithms that tell the drone where to go. To actually see what the drone’s “brain” was planning, we built some cool Python scripts that render 3D flight paths. We also made some nice flowcharts (using Mermaid) to keep our ideas organized. 3. Automated Virtual Flights (July 26th) Nobody wants to test untested code on a real, expensive drone. So, we built a pipeline that automatically runs the drone through different virtual missions: Route (following waypoints) , Orbit (flying in circles) , and RTL (Return to Launch) . We also added tools that check how accurate the drone’s internal GPS and sensors are during these flights. Now, it can test itself before we ever take it outside! 4. Making the Drone Tougher (August 1st) The real world is messy—there’s wind, vibrations, and sensor noise. To deal with this, we added something called Accel Gating . Basically, if the drone gets hit by a sudden gust of wind or a sensor throws a crazy number, the drone is now smart enough to say, “That data looks wrong, I’m ignoring it.” We ran dozens of automated stress tests (adding fake wind and latency) to prove it works. 5. Ready for the Real World (August 1st) Finally, we moved all this tested, simulated code over to the actual drone firmware ( XDQ-001F_V002.ino ).
