The car creates and uses maps, localizes itself in real time, follows an optimized racing line, slows down for corners, speeds up on straights, and avoids obstacles without any human input. The biggest challenge was making all of the different systems work together reliably. I spent most of my time improving localization, reducing pose lag with IMU and wheel odometry, tuning the Pure Pursuit controller, creating adaptive speed control, and building an obstacle avoidance system that could safely drive around objects and reconnect to the original path. Small improvements in one system often affected everything else, so there was a lot of testing and debugging. I’m most proud of how far the project came in such a short amount of time. It started as an RC car that constantly drifted, oversteered, and crashed into walls. By the end, it was driving smooth autonomous laps around the map completely on its own. To test the project, launch the ROS 2 workspace on the Jetson Orin Nano, connect the LiDAR, IMU, and VESC, load the provided map, and start the localization and navigation nodes. Once initialized, the car will localize itself and begin driving autonomously while avoiding obstacles and following the racing line.", "repo": "https://github.com/shreyasrawat/ros2_ws/tree/restored_localization", "demo": ""}]...

While the original implementation could follow the racing line, it wasn’t reliable enough once the car started driving faster. It would oversteer in corners, make unnecessary steering corrections, and sometimes struggle to recover after obstacle avoidance or localization drift. The first thing I focused on was waypoint tracking. The previous controller would occasionally target waypoints that were too close or even behind the vehicle, causing unstable steering behavior. I improved the waypoint selection logic so the controller consistently looks farther ahead on the racing line, resulting in much smoother and more predictable steering. I also refined how the controller handles corners. Instead of making aggressive steering inputs when approaching a turn, the updated controller transitions into corners much more naturally. This allows the car to maintain higher speeds while staying much closer to the ideal racing line. Recovery was another major area of improvement. Previously, if the car drifted off the planned path because of localization error or obstacle avoidance, it could take several seconds to find the racing line again. I redesigned the path reacquisition logic so the controller intelligently finds the best point to merge back onto the path instead of simply driving toward the nearest waypoint. This made recovery significantly faster and reduced unnecessary crashes. I spent a considerable amount of time tuning controller parameters, including lookahead behavior, steering gain, waypoint progression, and cornering performance. Most of this work involved iterative testing, making small adjustments, and analyzing the car’s behavior until it drove consistently across the entire track. Results After these improvements, the difference was immediately noticeable: Much smoother steering with fewer oscillations Cleaner cornering at higher speeds More accurate tracking of the racing line Faster recovery after localization drift or obstacle avoidance More stable autonomous driving overall Better foundation for future high-speed racing improvements These Pure Pursuit upgrades made the car feel significantly more polished and reliable. With a much stronger path-following system in place, the project is now ready for future improvements such as adaptive lookahead, curvature-based speed control, and more advanced racing algorithms."}, {"post_id": 23228, "ts": "2026-07-06T01:41:39Z", "hours": 12.36, "text": "Autonomous Self-Driving RC Race Car For my project, I spent 12 hours turning my RC car from something that constantly crashed into a fully autonomous racing platform. Im working on Background template consisting on Glitch animation of Letters and Numbers with a gradient effect .It will host my web applcation background . I have completed the components as well as the Dashboard areas work
This is how the background for my web application looks !! Rigth now im working on the api routes for shortening the link
I will be using PostgresSQL database hosted on the Neon DB instance as my primary database for my application .I have created the Link model with Unique ids, clicks, etc . I have also started working on the api routes for the shortening the links .All the created shortened links will be fetched through a api and rendered in to my dashbaord page
I have added a client side component while we will allow users to shorten the link using the inhouse api with customizable options such as the expiration link . I also planning to implement a cookie based analytics for tracking the virtue of sharing the links and their search engines
i have added a custom slug feature with the ability to add Expiration date for teh created link .This will allow the users to fully customize their shortened links
I have been working on the analytics for created shortened links since the past 2 days .The analytics will be implemeneted using the Cookies on the client side i.e the browser .It will be used to identify every unqiue clicks , browser agents , user device, etc . The website will ask for consent to collect cookies from the user
Heyy , I have been working on the dashboard for my links . The dashbaord will house all my links and their shortened ones along with action buttons such as Delete , View analytics and Edit . tweaking them to get them into action
Finally i have fixed most of the bugs in the slug and unqiue link creation . The tool has been deployed via vercel added features are browser identification, unqiue clicks and direct referer
I have fixed the background flickering whenever a user types the domain name or the url he wnats to shorten .the bug was affected due to a Each time the canvas resizes itself .Now this bug has ben fixed .

I have decided to make the game with less complexity that is HTML and CSS instead of any web frameworks such as React .This will allow me to iterate more and justify the development keeping low technical overhead .Right now im writting the CSS stylesheet
i have started the development with a html canvas .The canvas will house all the necessary buttons , sprites and the scoring system
i have started with the script.js coding . i will have a button controlled directly with the keyboard (ASWD keys) . The container will embed the snake and the fruit sprite dircetly in the canvas
i hv completed the main canvas game .The snake expands itself when it feeds on the fruit. the snake can be controlled using AWSD keys in the keyboard
I have revamped the styles for my game and also added some in game twists. i made the snake too hard to control using the keys and instead of moving in a straight path ,now the snake will take some unidentfied turns making it harder for the player to control
Ships:
This game was created as a part of my school project “Play with CSS “ .I forgot to ship it a month back . I rebrushed my HTML and CSS skills with this .Thank you...

I think i’m almost done with the schematic part, just need to add the rotary encoder for volume / play/pause control. Here is everything i added in the last few hours: storage I researched how I’m going to store my songs - because I want to be able to play things offline, I’d like to have my songs downloaded on the player itself. For this, I’ll need to have extra storage; the on-board storage for the ESP32 is only enough for maybe one or two songs. The solution I found was to use the Adafruit Micro SD SPI or SDIO Card Breakout Board, along with a compatible 32 GB SD card. I found one at my local Walmart (according to the website) so I’ll go pick that up sometime :3. I also struggled for a good while trying to add this onto my KiCad. First, I thought I could just get the Eagle files from the adafruit GitHub, but apparently that library includes all the parts they use to make their boards but not the board itself. To get around this, I just used their 9-pin header, which was labeled according to the pins on the board. I’m not making a PCB, after all; I’m going to wire it up the old-school way. OR maybe i’ll use a perfboard hmmmm… nfc support Next, the main part of this whole project - NFC support! I found this NFC reader called the PN532, which I can use to read the nfc tags in the vinyl disks. I also put it on KiCad track number LEDs Since having one song per vinyl is a bit much tbh, I decided to have a button that changes the track (can only go forward sorry i dont have enough pins). For this, I need to be able to yk show the track number… and the ‘easiest’ way to do that was with 4 leds that represent the number in binary! note: at the time i’m writing this, i JUST changed it to 5 LEDs. They’re linked in a chain so they only need one pin reset rc circuit basically, when the power is turned on, the adafruit dac needs to be reset. so if i had it as a separate gpio pin, i’d write it into the code that okay, once the power’s on, switch this to low for a bit then keep it high. but the problem with that is, that wastes a gpio pin. apparently there’s this thing called an RC power-on delay circuit, which means that, when the power’s on, the capacitor takes a little time to charge, which keeps the reset low for some time. Then, once the capacitor fully charges up, the reset pin’s on high the rest of the time. okay, so this session was largely ideation and a lot of planning. i’m not fully done with the planning yet, but i figured i should post a devlog before i continue… so here i am (p.s. from the future: this first devlog sets the stage for eeeeeverything so if you’re here PLEASE read the whole thing! i’m trying to devlog this in a lot of detail and if you’re a reviewer/rater i’d appreciate it so much if you got to know the entire project before you judged :3 i’m not that good at hardware but i’m learning and trying so yeah) this ‘session’ (i say in quotes because it was split over four Lapse sessions - watch them here: https://lapse.hackclub.com/user/@shreyaluu ) saw me trying to figure out things like where components will go in the end, putting together ideas of what i might want the final product to look like (i have a lot of inspo pictures and some sketches i drew myself but nothing is for certain yet), etc. some other questions: storage? sd card probably battery? charging? how does that work? what microcontroller to use (i’m thinking rp2040 because that’s what i have, but might switch to esp32 depending on what i need yk?) oh wait, silly me… i forgot to explain what the project is in the first place THE PROJECT the idea is: a vintage-looking mini vinyl player that can play songs depending on what vinyl (a glorified 3d printed disk) you put inside it. it will detect this by using nfc stickers on the disks (i found an awesome deal on amazon for a bunch of these) and an nfc reader inside the vinyl player itself. based on the input from the nfc, it’ll play the correct file (stored locally) from either speakers (or, ambitiously, a headphone jack) THE INSPIRATION a lot of my favorite artists are putting out albums lately… and they have vinyls that come with them. i can’t buy those vinyls or a vinyl player… but i can make my own! PLUS i’ve always wanted to get deeper into hardware- lately i’ve just done some simple projects and going into something like this would be awesome. i love music and tech so why not combine both?
since the last devlog, i’ve been heavily researching a lot more… i figured out what MC i want to use (XIAO ESP32S3, because it can have wifi capabilities and includes LiPo battery management), researched a ton about the battery things such as how to display the charge, etc. in my notebook, i’m writing about the parts i want, plus drawing to-scale squares/rectangles to represent each of the parts; i want to make this as compact as possible. i also researched about the audio system- like how to make it play music out loud vs into headphones, and found this neat part i can use called the Adafruit TLV320DAC3100. it has a built-in headphone jack so that’s super awesome! here are the parts i have finalized so far: ESP32 3.7 volt LiPo battery - 1000mAh (or maybe 800 mAh, depending on prices and shipping costs) 3.7 v to 4.2 v battery gauge self-latching on/off switch Adafruit TLV320DAC3100 Speaker as always- you can watch my full timelapses here: https://lapse.hackclub.com/user/@shreyaluu
So, i’ve come a long way since the last journal! So I researched this a bit then implemented it to my own circuit, freeing up a GPIO pin that I can use for a button or something! Speaking of the button… the button This is the button that changes the track number. I added this in KiCad, connecting it to the freed up GPIO pin mentioned above. rotary encoder plan Instead of adding a traditional rotary encoder, which requires three additional pins, i’m thinking about using the Adafruit breakout board, which lets the rotary encoder use the already-in-use I2C. all timelapses in this journal https://lapse.hackclub.com/timelapse/MZIoUOo8jHLk https://lapse.hackclub.com/timelapse/ZwfmAnuRbDRx https://lapse.hackclub.com/timelapse/ocHd5FBWXQlM...
