Devlog #1 Started work on Vector the Slack bot So far I’ve: followed the tutorial 😭 Added slash commands: /vector-ping /vector-catfact /vector-joke /vector-hello /vector-help Added global error handling Today was Day 1 of building this bot. I have 0 experience making slack bots but I’ve made a few discord bots before. It’s not much yet but I’ll take it.
Devlog #2 (Day 2) Vector has officially been used by other humans in the slack workspace, yay Since the last devlog, I have added: /vector-apod /vector-earth /vector-github /vector-leetcode I also built Slack Block Kit messages with images, allowing Vector to render images directly in chat instead of just showing a URL. Devlog #3 (end of day 2) VECTOR HAS BEEN DEPLOYED 🎊 (nest application got approved) man deployment took quite some time, I ran into a few problems, I created the path for systemd which i assumed was already supposed to exist, i installed git, node, npm, etc… Added more meaningful slack commands: REMINDERS!!! a. reminders are stored in a JSON database and periodically checks for reminders that are due. Devlog #4 (Day 3) Vector can talk now 🗣️🗣️ Added vector mentions, just @vector and say anything you like, it’s powered by groq and it also pulls the last 10 messages from the chat or thread for context. “Tries” to use real names instead of user ids but that is still under progress. Devlogs:
I created the basis of the clipboard, overiding duplicates, adding a nice aesthetic and consolidating the foundation of DuckyPaste.
Created a json saving and loading system so you can close down the application and still have the clipboard saved. Added a search bar and pinning button, search bar functionality is added while pinning is not. More to come!
Added a working delete button and fixed a few bugs associated with the search bar and the history array, soon to be finalised
Implemented a tray icon with a show and quit button, so it runs in the background and picks up on your clipboard when it’s merely running as a task. I also fixed the pinning button, so when pinned, the entry adds a pin emoji 📌 and places it at the top of the list. Release 1.0 is being shipped soon….

Nothing wrong with my syntax, no bad token, no accidentally deleted code. Everything should’ve been going great until Discord’s servers slammed the door shut on every attempt to join a voice channel. Why? I’ll get to that. But first, some context. What is Verbosity? Verbosity is a lightweight, self-hosted voice moderation bot for Discord. The kind of specialised, efficient machine you could run at home on a Raspberry Pi or small VPS without needing to destroy a small town’s water supply by using a data centre and a hundred GPUs. The core idea is that Discord text moderation is very oversaturated, while voice moderation is practically a ghost town. Normally, you’d have to hope a moderator is already in the voice channel to witness someone’s misconduct. That’s where Verbosity comes in: it keeps a constantly overwriting 30-second rolling buffer of audio for every speaker. Nothing is permanently recorded, and the bot is open source. If a moderator runs /clip, or an automated trigger fires (like someone yelling slurs or blasting extremely loud audio), a clip is pulled from the buffer and saved much like saving footage from a dashcam. Otherwise, it just rolls over and disappears. No cloud APIs, third parties, etc. Just efficient local processing and a buffer that’s always recording only the last 30 seconds. That said, today was supposed to be the boring part: get the bot online, responding to slash commands, and make sure the skeleton worked. It mostly did. Right up until it didn’t. The boring (but important) part: Every feature this bot will eventually have (/clip, /protect, etc.) will arrive as a slash command. Before any of that exists, there needs to be a clean, obvious place where commands get registered/routed. If I get this wrong now, the project will become a mess later as every new command turns into a special case. If I get it right, every new command should mostly be a matter of adding another entry to a table or switch statement. So I started by cooking up ping, join, and leave. /ping came first and replied instantly - great! The first real proof the bot was alive and listening. /join was the more pressing matter because it’s the doorway to all of Verbosity. Every audio frame the bot will ever process starts with joining a voice channel. Fail = no bot. Success = everything else becomes possible. First Lesson: Discord is impatient The first lesson - and a useful one if you’re doing anything with Discord’s interaction API - is that slash commands must send an initial response within 3 seconds or Discord shows the user the gloomy little “This application did not respond” message. /join has to open a voice gateway connection and a UDP socket, and it’s perfectly normal for that to take longer than three seconds. The fix is a deferred response: acknowledge the command immediately with something like “Verbosity is thinking…”, then send the real answer once the slow work finishes. Discord then gives you a generous 15-minute window to send the real response. Second Lesson: Door Slam 4017: E2EE/DAVE protocol required A 4017 close code doesn’t mean my code is flawed - it means Discord’s voice servers don’t recognise the protocol being used. The reason is a platform change. Back in March, Discord made DAVE (its end-to-end voice encryption protocol) mandatory for all bots. Older libraries, like discordgo (which I’m using), don’t support DAVE. So I’ll have to pivot and use something like disgo + godave to fix this in devlog #2. Network Architecture + Forward Pass Wrote a basic API for modelling the network. When untrained it initializes weights and biases random. With these random values it is already capable of running a forward pass with some input data. Next I want to implement backpropagation so that the network can actually learn patterns in data.
Backpropagation It’s learning! I tried the network with a small synthetic dataset and it learned the pattern flawlessly, at least when you don’t let it run for too long: Below you can see the network’s performance (cost) at each epoch, it starts out strong - reducing the cost and getting better and better - until all of a sudden there is a massive spike and the cost goes way up again. I have no idea why this is happening, but overall I’m extremely happy that the network is learning. Next I’m going to fix this issue and then I want it to predict numbers from the MNIST dataset.
Softmax Activation and Digits I modified the API so that cost and activation functions can easily be changed. After opting for softmax activation at the output layer and changing the cost function to categorical cross-entropy, the model classified the numbers with 85.59% accuracy after 10.000 epochs. I’m surprised it works this well despite the small network and no regularization or tuning at all. While interesting, the math is getting really complicated now, especially deriving the softmax function is still a mystery to me, i had to look up its derivative online. I want to spend some more time understanding how the cost and the activation function “influence” each other before implementing an API to more easily train the network.
Training API + OneHotEncoder Cleaned up a lot of the boilerplate inside main.py . The training loop is now inside the network itself and can be called with a single fit() call handling batching, epochs, and logging: network . fit ( X_train , y_train , learning_rate = 0.1 , batch_size = 0.1 ) I also renamed a few things that were always named imprecisely. run() is now forward() , and the old fit() (which only did a single gradient step) became epoch() . This made the code much easier to read. The one-hot encoding is now its own class instead of a one-liner scattered in main.py. This was necessary because you need to decode predictions back to the original labels afterwards: encoder = OneHotEncoder () y = encoder . encode ( digits . target ) encoder . decode ( network . forward ( X_test )) I also added a train_test_split utility so I don’t have to manually slice arrays anymore.
Demo + Readme The network is fully working, however its difficult to see it in action. That’s why (with the help of Claude) I created a Streamlit app, so that you can try different parameters for the network in the browser. Without having to install anything locally. I also spent some time making the readme prettier and more informative.

Fixed small-screen layout issues, added a ‘hide location’ button in settings, totally revamped settings and customisation, fixed an inconsistency across the starting page and the customisation page, removed a useless button, added a ‘docs’ page talking about the project, spent a while debugging a ‘rogue import’ issue (XD), put default at the top for fonts, improved saving logic and ADDED 5 NEW FONTS! :D They all look great! I added a font sizing option in customisation! Added font customisation for both large and small text. Also updated the font styling to work across various screen sizes! And finally… FINALLY! I added ANIMATIONS! They’re really fluid and smooth. Plans: Improve reliability across browsers. Add a font sizing option to smaller text. I’m considering adding PWA detection, but not sure. Also considering some fun documentation for the user/tester to read regarding screen burn protection and the idea of the app. Add more pages! Improve UI. Thanks for reading! So I fixed the bugs mentioned at the end of the last devlog, which is great :D I also redesigned the concept of the settings, now there are separate pages for customisation and actual settings. I also implemented that new settings menu, featuring control over storage (locally held variables) and input for lat/lon, which is currently entirely manual to avoid any privacy concerns. I made sure not to add this to the intro, as it helps the user learn about the settings. :D I also improved the screen burn protection, and experimented a bit with that. The last (and largest) improvement I made was the UI of the ‘info’ page, and I plan to do a similar thing to all other pages. There’s a screenshot below. Plans: Total overhaul of other pages, general UI and ANIMATIONS! Also, I plan to add a ‘reading’ section, kinda like a blog based on the work I’ve done and my idea behind it, with the screen-burn protection. I implemented the other pages, added a ‘customisation’ page (settings) where the user can change the styling and screen, and added a bunch more improvements across pages. This isn’t all I added, but I’m trying to keep the devlog short to not be boring. Plans: Fix some things with Safari, fix the location fetching for weather data, and revamp the UI for the customisation page. Also add tons more screens and animations (I still haven’t! XD). I’d love to hear your feedback on it. I very slightly modified the icons on the first page, but not significantly aside from adding the actual views, rather than placeholders. I added an image of the final page showing the user how to enter the customisation menu, although I plan to modify that a LOT! XD After you click on that, it takes you to the main home page, where I added a CSS-based system protecting against screen burn! (I chose CSS because it’s more reliable against memory leaks and animations are widely supported with very little overhead! :D) There’s a LOT I plan to add still! I want to make the customisation menu, massively improve the UI, and add tons of nice animations and details (like I said I’d do in the previous entry) If you’re interested, I’m using a Trello board to keep track of things! I find it really helpful to organise everything into an ‘ideas’, ‘to-do’, ‘improve’ and ‘done’. :D Thanks for reading my (probably excessively long) devlog! I also added a system for styling, which looks really nice IMHO! Happy hacking! :)
Added a bunch more stuff! XD). I also need to fix a bug where the dark mode is somewhat inconsistent. Thanks for reading, happy coding!
2h devlog. Thanks for reading!
BIG devlog! A bunch of really nice features! In reverse order of my preference: Fixed bugs on Safari Some nice outlines for visibility if the user decides on light accent colours. (Sorry for any grammar/spelling issues, I type all my devlogs manually lel)
WOW! Lot of work done! I’ll go through them quickly: 1: Capybara 404 page 2: Added GPS geolocation (no more IP :D) 3: Added a fancy new icon! (3 lines of AI code for the meta tags!!!) Speedrun time! Everybody welcome: Pliant, Montserrat, Oswald, Roboto Slab, and Pixelify Sans! This gives you up to 49 new combinations! :D Sorry for the long devlog and any mistakes, thanks for reading!
Final Devlog! I (once again) redesigned the settings page, and I’m super happy with the outcome. I also adapted several other pages and made some smaller improvements. I made a README file showcasing some images of the project. I think this will be the last devlog before I ship, so see you guys in the next project, and thanks for reading!
Ships:
I made BetterStandby! It’s a PWA that lets non-iPhones and any phones without an always-on display use a clock face inspired by Apple’s StandBy! It’s highly customisable, featuring custom font size, font, and accent colour, alongside different layouts. It was really fun to build, so thanks for reading! Hope you like it as much as I do :D...

The goal was never to create a website that simply tells a story. Instead, I wanted visitors to feel like investigators. Every file, image, and piece of information exists for a reason. Some clues are obvious, while others are buried deeper within the archive. The more time you spend exploring, the more connections you’ll begin to notice. One of the biggest priorities during development was immersion. I wanted the experience to feel authentic—as though the website had existed for years before being rediscovered. That meant carefully designing the interface, organizing the archive, and removing anything that broke the illusion. The finished website contains multiple sections to explore, each holding its own mysteries and secrets. While it may appear straightforward at first glance, not everything is as it seems. There are hidden details, unusual patterns, and unanswered questions scattered throughout the archive. It challenged me to think differently about navigation, user interaction, and environmental storytelling. For now, The Lost Website is complete. I started the project by making a simple schematic and PCB layout in kicad. I’m very new to kicad, so if I’ve made any glaring errors please point them out. Soon I’m going to route the board and design a case, as well as complete the code.
Today I re-did the PCB and schematic so that the MCU could be flipped to the other side of the board, saving space.
I’ve worked on the source code and sent the PCB off for manufacturing.
I fixed two major bugs and started working on a new feature. I realized I won’t be able to have the PCB manufactured by my deadline (this weekend) so I’m going to assemble the project on perfboard.
I finished the project! Soldered the components on perfboard, 3d-printed a case (I don’t have heatset inserts/screws so I just made it tight enough to friction fit), and finished the source code.

The hardest part of making this game was the dungeon generation system. At first, a lot of the maps I made had problems like rooms not connecting or the exit being unreachable. It took a lot of testing and fixing to make sure every dungeon is actually playable. Another challenge was the enemy AI because I didn’t use advanced pathfinding, so I had to make a simpler system that still feels like the enemies are chasing you. Balancing the game was also tricky because changing small things like damage or enemy count could make the game too easy or too hard. I’m proud that I was able to build a full working game that actually feels different every time you play. The dungeon generation works, the enemies behave in a somewhat smart way, and there are clear win and lose conditions. I also like that I kept everything in one Python file but still made it work as a complete game. To test the game, use W, A, S, D to move around. No game engine, no outside frameworks, just the standard library and a lot of free time. Most of the systems worked fine on their own for a while. Combat felt decent, dungeon generation was working, and items loaded correctly. But getting everything to actually work together was way harder than expected. FOV, enemy AI, status effects, and saving all needed to talk to each other and there were a lot of moments where killing an enemy would crash the save, or a spell would try to hit something that didn’t exist anymore. That couldn’t stay broken once boss fights and multi-floor progression needed to actually function. So most of the work became just making all the pieces cooperate reliably. The Goal For the game to actually feel good: Procedural dungeons should feel different every single run Combat should have real depth, resistances, crits, status effects and all that Enemies should do more than just walk straight at you The save system should handle any game state without breaking Bosses should actually feel scary, not just be big HP sponges For the code side: Everything needs to serialize to and from JSON cleanly No weird dependency loops between the combat engine, dungeon, and player What Changed The dungeon generator now uses BSP room placement instead of just scattering rooms randomly. Enemy AI got split into 9 different behavior types including chase, patrol, ranged, ambush, support, berserk, flee, guard, and idle, instead of one giant mess of if statements. Status effects now tick on both the player and enemies every turn separately. I also completely rewrote the FOV using shadowcasting across all 8 octants which honestly took way longer than it should have. What Actually Broke Pretty much everything had issues at some point. The shadowcasting FOV has a bug on the northeast octant where some walls stay invisible when they should be visible. Still figuring that one out. Saving in the middle of combat sometimes drops enemy status effect potency on reload. The duration saves fine but potency resets to 1 for some reason. The floor 6 shop occasionally spawns completely empty if the floor RNG hits a certain seed. No idea why yet. Boss loot is guaranteed to drop but sometimes lands on a wall tile if the boss dies in a bad spot. What’s Next Fixing the FOV bug, patching the save and load status issue, and adding actual targeting for spells so they stop just auto hitting the nearest visible enemy. After that probably more boss phases and a high score system. It’s playable and honestly pretty fun. Just not finished yet."}]...

Devlogs:
