Devlogs:
Today I started working on Folder Assistant AI! First, I set up the project skeleton and installed all the required libraries, after that I made the first version of watcher.py, which watches a folder and detects new images. Tested it with a few files, and everything works so far
Since last devlog i made a lot of work! First, I added Google Gemini AI, so now SmartFolder AI looks at new images, comes up with a better filenames that fits picture, also it sorts them into new created folders, and saves everything into history.json. I also started working on the desktop GUI with PySide6; at the moment, it’s only a visual prototype and doesn’t have any functionality yet. So far everything goes well, the only thing that leaves me speechless is that AI creating some new folders with almost identical names, so nearly every image ends up in a new folder…
update!! finally finished working on the app structure, now all the buttons work and the app is functionally ready; as for what’s new, added settings! you can now choose which folder SmartFolder watches and turn AI folder sorting on/off. also added a basic history page to see renamed files. next step is to fix AI folder sorting, because at the moment it creates a new folder every time a new photo gets downloaded :(
UPDATE!! — almost finished..; sooo basically, I’ve finished working on the main functionality of this project. The only thing left is adding some styling to the app; since the last devlog, I upgraded the sorting system - now AI sorts images into the folders you have available, and you can also add your own custom folders!! after that, I’m pretty much done :D
update!! finally finished the gui :3 made the whole thing look way cleaner, added proper layouts, styled settings/history and just generally made it feel like an actual app; and yeah, that’s basically it. smartfolder ai is finally finished!! now i just gotta prepare everything for the stardance submission
update!! added the app icon, system tray + background mode, so smartfolder ai can now chill in the background while still watching the folder. also fixed some dumb bugs with invalid api keys and random .tmp files, and added the option to use your own gemini api key through settings. everything is working now, so next step is just making the final .exe, testing it on a clean setup and uploading the first release!!...
