From expressions of energy it is capable of deriving equations of motion using symbolic differentiation and then stepping through them in time to simulate the motion of the system. How to use The homepage has links to each of the system simulator pages. Each page has an energy label and diagram, playback buttons and sometimes system equations. The Rolling Disk Pendulum has equations of motion too complex to display on the screen. There is also a button to view the Python system file that creates the solver. The page runs best on a landscape desktop orientation. Code structure The project is written in both Python and JavaScript: the main Lagrangian system solver uses Python for its polymorphism and flexible OOP, while the renderer uses JS to efficiently draw the system and update the GUI. Minimal external dependencies are used, so almost all of the code has been written from scratch. Neither component uses nor requires the internals of the other: the system solver simply outputs a few numbers representing the phase state of the system, and the renderer uses those numbers to calculate the positions of objects to draw. Challenges One of the first major issues encountered was how to simplify expressions. Many of the basic rules in algebra are rather complicated to systematically apply, such as collecting like terms or using index laws. In fact, since the expressions obtained from the Euler-Lagrange equations are of a specific format, this symbolic differentiation engine is not fully-featured. Another detail that required significant attention was how to embed Python into a JavaScript powered webpage. The library used for this, PyScript, has two different Python interpreters: Pyodide and MicroPython, the latter of which is 37x smaller in size. The symbolic differentiation engine does not require any external dependencies, but the RK4 time stepper does use NumPy, which is not available on MicroPython. This meant that much of the code needed to be rewritten using ulab, the MicroPython equivalent. In addition to this, many of the CPython-specific implementation details were different, such as dictionary key order and hash function limitations, had varying behaviour on MicroPython and had to be taken account of. One of the techniques I used was dynamically creating each simulation webpage entirely using JavaScript without any frameworks such as jQuery. This meant that each simulation would have almost identical HTML and simply differing diagram drawing JS, which made adding new simulations a matter of copying the template code and editing the rendering script. Merits The system code is extremely intuitive to the point where even non-programmers should be capable of understanding how the system is set up. The most complex system, the Rolling Disk Pendulum, has no less than 7 components exerting classical forces on each other, but the Euler-Lagrange equations convert this simply to a set of simultaneous equations that can be solved instantly for individual accelerations. This results in fluid motion appearing on the screen, no matter how chaotic the system is.", "repo": "https://github.com/rayzchen/mechsim", "demo": "https://rayzchen.github.io/mechsim/"}]...

Basic expression manipulation The goal of this project is to write a library that can perform symbolic differentiation and solve for an “equation of motion” which can be used to run a simulation. The code for substituting variables is now complete. Here is a sample of how the substitution works.
Differentiation! The symbol engine is now capable of performing partial differentiation with respect to any variable, allowing the use of Euler-Lagrange to form differential equations. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euler%E2%80%93Lagrange_equation
More complicated math The solver can now handle sin and cos, as well as expanding brackets! Also added the equation of motion solver to obtain a value for acceleration. Tested with a different rendering tool with a double pendulum setup. I will eventually create my own simulation using more math and rendering, this window is not part of the project. TODO: collecting like terms and cancelling down, optimising value substitution
Optimisations The old code used to substitute values and perform thousands of simplifications when they weren’t even necessary. Now the values are directly calculated, resulting in much better execution times.
Better syntax and other tests The expressions can now be written in a much simpler syntax, making it easier to read! Below is also a test run simulating the angle of a rocking semicircle.
RK4 solver class I have implemented a class that handles solving, susbtitution and iteration of a system from the lagrangian and tested it with a pendulum-cart setup like the one found at https://www.myphysicslab.com/pendulum/cart-pendulum-en.html .
PyScript testing Spent some time reading through the documentation of PyScript ( https://pyscript.net/ ) to see how well the code will run in the browser. Got the double pendulum code to run in the browser, and I will start writing a full demo soon.
Officially brought to web! I had to wrestle with PyScript for an incredibly long time, but it’s finally running smoothly! Two big changes to the code are: micropython support, which runs and loads SO much faster than Pyodide (but meant I had to rewrite itertools.product and np.linalg.solve) helper classes to create a mechanical system and create energy formulae, which abstracts the math away into much more of an intuitive system! The code for setting up the system gets simpler and simpler each time…
LaTeX and more simplification This devlog was supposed to be two separate ones, but Stardance was refusing to calculate logged hours :( There’s a big list of changes here: Added a label to show kinetic and potential energies (and demonstrating conservation of energy!) Finally implemented combining like terms (3x + 2x = 5x) and like powers (sin(x) * sin(x) = sin^2(x)), which provides a huge speed increase since the equations of motion are now simpler Fixed a BUNCH of bugs that were cropping up under MicroPython (annoyingly CPython’s dict keys in order of assignment is an implementation detail that isn’t in MicroPython, and the hashing function in MicroPython is completely unreliable) Added LaTeX mode for converting expressions into strings, which automatically handles subscripts and symbols Added labels to the diagram also with LaTeX, tweaked for visibility
GitHub deployment Temporary deployments can be found at https://rayzchen.github.io/mechsim/pend.html
Circular Disks After much headache, two new constraints have been implemented: disk rolling on a plane and disk rolling in a circle. There were also lots of bugs in the LaTeX output, which I just kept encountering one by one, but hopefully they should now all be fixed. Temporary deployments can be found at https://rayzchen.github.io/mechsim/disk.html
Complex System Demo This system contains a semicircular anulus rocking on a rough plane, with a circular disk inside attached to a compound pendulum, and constrained with three springs. Adjusting the parameters took an awfully long time… Temporary deployments can be found at https://rayzchen.github.io/mechsim/disk.html
Website structure rewrite To make adding new simulations easier, I restructured the file layout and added more dynamic code to the shared JS to create the elements required rather than copy pasting everything in every file. Also added labels to the tab title and bottom right corner. Also rewrote the drawing code for the rolling disk to add more details. Temporary deployments can be found at https://rayzchen.github.io/mechsim/disk/
More simulations New simulations added: Swinging Atwood Machine Ball on Slope Simple Pendulum Temporary deployments can be found at https://rayzchen.github.io/mechsim/
System file viewer Added a button to view the Python code that sets up the physical system. Temporary deployments can be found at https://rayzchen.github.io/mechsim/
Cart + Pendulum Added a simple cart and pendulum system, and realised the internal rotation angles were COMPLETELY opposite… Spent half an hour of unlogged time just to find out that all of the systems were symmetric in angles except ONE which had a wrong sign in the rendering code, making it LOOK symmetric… Fixed that without too much of a headache once found :D
Homepage! Finally able to navigate through the six simulation systems from one place 🔥🔥 Had to wrestle with CSS flexbox and transitions to make nice animations! Temporary deployments can be found at https://rayzchen.github.io/mechsim/
Energy Bar Added a bar on the left to graphically show the ratio between kinetic and potential energies (the faster things are moving, the more light grey there is). Temporary deployments can be found at https://rayzchen.github.io/mechsim/
Playback Controls Added reset, play/pause and step buttons! Temporary deployments can be found at https://rayzchen.github.io/mechsim/
Final fixes Changed the behaviour of the playback button icons to keep sync with the simulation. Also fixed a layering issue in the CSS. The project should now be ready to ship! Temporary deployments can be found at https://rayzchen.github.io/mechsim/

MechSim MechSim is a mechanical system simulator that uses Lagrangian mechanics and Runge-Kutta methods to simulate various constrained systems. This results in fluid motion appearing on the screen, no matter how chaotic the system is....

Soldering the OLED display and putting it on the breadboard
I finally got the OLED to work via Arduino CLI + implemented text wrapping.
The MCP server finally works (the notification in the image was sent by Claude using send_notification tool call), and I also added a push button to dismiss the notification once you have addressed it. The next steps are: Finishing the PreToolHook so that when Claude asks clarifying question it fires Testing the installation script
Adding hook for claude code to automatically trigger the notification when it asks the user a question (there is a clarify tool it uses)
Fixed a serial-related bug and created demo
Added simple PCB design

Starting with the first 4 planets! So I’m a bit new to pygame (and it’s been a while since my last python project) so for the first step of this project I learned how pygame works through a youtube vid and set up the first four planets, once I get comfortable with it I’ll move solo. This simulation uses real physics and I plan on connecting NASA apis, moons and overlooked objects of our solar system and make it like a museum.
A very basic model completed! So I got the first 4 planets to move around the sun. Now, this was a beginner’s kind of project, so now I want to make it my own. I added a title and the Moon moving around the Earth (which doesn’t exactly look great). Next, I want to add the entire SOLAR SYSTEM (or at least as much as I can of it). I’m going to create some in and out zooming panels, the moons of other planets and I really want to implement some NASA api in some way
Added all the planets and created a zoom in and zoom out functionality, enabling users to see the distant gas giants and their orbits at proportional scale.
You can now adjust the timeframe to your liking and I added Pluto! Now I’m really starting to get the hang of this (at least for this project) and I’m having so much fun adding customizable features. I think next time instead of just circles I’ll render an image of each planet and integrate an API to get the current weather data for each. stay tuned!
I accidentally broke it partially by trying to render images for planets instead of circles which made the orbits extremely laggy. I mean I was also coding while barely being able to keep my eyes open so either I’ll fix this or drop the idea. On the bright side, I did find a great free API to upload some info about the planets and other celestial objects to my simulator. ANDD… I incorporated the OpenData Solar System API!! Now, everytime you press on any object, it’s going to print its info in the terminal. I’m finally heading towards a SUPER exciting part. So now whenever you press on a planet you get some basic info about it retrieved from the solar system Open Data API as shown below. After taking care of that, I did some research on some APIs because I want to make a simulation of EVERY solar system known so far (and make the simulation update according to new discoveries). You can check it out here you don’t even need an API key: https://github.com/OpenExoplanetCatalogue/open_exoplanet_catalogue/tree/master . Tomorrow I will incorporate a search bar and allow users to explore other solar systems. It’s not going to look super pretty or stunningly 3D but it will be simulations of real solar systems with actual facts and that’s what matters!
I finally have a working simulation of every single solar system discovered according to the Open Exoplanet Catalogue, a project I did in honor of the successful launch of the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope! I need to deploy it on the web now which honestly is the biggest headache I’ve had in coding why is pygame like this… anyway, I also had to download the data in an xml file instead of retrieving it from github because of pygame complications bla bla bla but im SO CLOSE to finally deploying this project and moving on to the next. Key features include browsing and filtering through all solar systems (and checking out ours) and then clicking on one and watching a real physics simulation of planets orbiting their star take place. interesting way of seeing the scale of our universe maybe? Its currently 1am and I kinda broke the code (again) so I will show final results with simulations and everything tomorrow, here are my beautiful errors till now.
After almost 15 hours I FINALLY have a working simulation of every single solar system we know of so far! Honestly the last hour was the most GRUESOME because I faced sooo many errors when trying to deploy to web I had to change a lot of stuff in code but here we are! You can run this in the web or locally on your computer and you can also edit the project to use other exoplanet catalogues, such as NASA’s Exoplanet Archive. When the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope stars sending us back data, I will definitely be looking forward to upgrading this project!!
Ships:
I made a simulation of every known solar system so far. I saw a video on youtube showing people how to make a basic simulation of our solar system using pygame and real physics, and I enjoyed the video so much I decided to take it a step further and make simulations of every system we know of. What was most challenging honestly was understanding how to merge physics with code, and I did have a hard time understanding how the data is structured in the Open Exoplanet Catalogue. It’s been a while since I used python but now I can say I have the hang of it again!...

Hello, this is the fist devlog of quick-clean The main utility itself is working: it groups files together and places the unknown ones in a separate folder. But I would like to do some minor changes. Also i need to do the README, setup script and stuff like that.
I’m going to mark the project as complete. It does what it’s supposed to do and has no bugs (I hope). If any bugs crop up or I think of ways to improve it, I’ll do so. It hasn’t been a very interesting project, but it’s a start. I want to do a more interesting project that motivates me.
So I did some changes. I changed the README becuase they said it was made with AI (it wasn’t). I hope this time my brain don’t write like an LLM. I also improved a lot the performance deleting and changing some loops and using some bash tricks.

I built a little Linux bash tool that organise files in a folder. I thought it would be easier but bash is really limited and simple. In python or c++ it would be easy but it was a great way to learn bash. Don’t expect a big project, it’s really small and simple, that’s the hole point...

First off, the boot screen has been cleaned up, the boot video will now stop at the correct time consistently on the beat no matter how bad your wifi might be, and I created a little Windows XP logo cutout on the bootscreen just as a nice little thing. The main difference you’ll notice immediately after it’s booted up is that there is now a taskbar! I always knew I was going to add this eventually I just wanted to implement it properly after I had gotten the apps and desktop working as I intended. There are three apps on the taskbar currently which are the notes, music and settings apps and the ones displayed on the taskbar differ slightly to the desktop icons, where the settings icon is not but there’s an extra app/game that I added there instead. When you click on app icons in the taskbar they pop down and back up, and when you hover over them the background behind them also lights up to show which app will open if you were to click now. I added my own custom right click/“context menu” which I also knew I was going to add at some point and currently it only has copy and paste (I say only but pasting was a pain to program, more than you’d initially think) however more options will be added to it in the future. Now inside the settings app I’ve began adding a side menu where if you click on each one it’ll take you to a different settings page, and the first one allows you to pick a different wallpaper from a selection of minimal Komi wallpapers which I’ll have save eventually in your browser when I implement user preferences. That about page is just there as a template currently just so I could test page switching but I’ll add to that in the future and also add more pages, one last thing for the settings app though is in the sidebar you can see little coloured icons to make it immediately more obvious when looking for a specific page. The last app I added since the last devlog was embedding eaglercraft into an app (which wasn’t as easy as I’d hoped it’d be) however I managed to get it working consistently enough to be able to keep it on my site, the corners of it are clipped to the window so that it doesn’t look out of place and it fits right in. I also added a ton of tiny tweaks, too many and too small to list but just things like changing the time to only show the time just to simplify any clutter in the top right, shadows were tweaked on the desktop icons as well as a dark black solid shadow was added to all of the text under the icons and I added a purple highlight colour when selecting text to match Komi’s haircolour. Other things I could remember were things like adding a favicon and moving some of my styling that had snuck into my HTML back into my CSS file but now I’m really reaching for stuff and this devlog is long enough anyway. I worked mostly on the music player since the last devlog and I was able to add a playback slider that lets you seek through the song thats currently playing while also showing the current time on the left, with the total duration of the song on the right. I added previous/skip buttons that let you move between songs in the playlist (current total of 4, which are 2 opening themes and 2 ending themes from the show) and I added/switched a lot of buttons to have icons like the play/pause button, previous/skip buttons and both sides of the volume slider. Because of the added playback slider and the icons taking up more space I had to increase the window height of the music player and I also slightly darkened the background of the player too to increase the contrast of the text and buttons and stuff in front of it to make them easier to see on lighter cover art. Lastly, if the song ends it will automatically move forward to the next song, the same thing if a song was currently playing and you skip it’ll autoplay the next song, otherwise if you skip while paused it’ll stay paused. Outside of the music player, I added drop shadows to all the windows and the current focused window gains a darker shadow to show that it’s focused. I also began work on a boot screen that I’ll probably create a cooldown for so that you don’t have to watch it boot up every time you reload the page since it’s pretty long but I’m having a really great time working on this project, it’s been really fun and I can’t wait to get to work on it some more. Anyway, once I had gotten as much as I wanted from the guide, I split off and started making the project fully my own. Windows being fully (I believe fully, altho I still have to do some cleanup) converted to using classes along with the ability to have multiple windows of the same app open is really the big main obvious one, however I have made so many tiny changes that don’t show visually which you’ll notice a lot more while you’re using and interacting with it, like adding mini app icons on window headers, changing the z-index ordering so it doesn’t infinitely go up, creating my own selection code for icons on the desktop including them requiring a double click to open, making some text/images non-selectable just like real operating systems and so many more little tweaks that really make it super intuitive to use. Currently I’m stuck on something trivial, I’m trying to decide between two images to use as the operating system’s “image” but I’m just going to set that aside for now, so instead next I think I will be working on adding either a music player or a settings menu that will allow me to change out the wallpaper, and maybe also save/remember anything you do on the operating system. Or I may leave that to WebOS 2 and just work on getting a nice base WebOS 1 page working by customising the operating system more to make it more unique. Either way I guess we’ll see. I created it because I enjoy finding websites randomly on internet, but often end up forgetting or losing them later. Features include the ability for users to add websites and categories, search collections, and filter sites by category. The most challenging parts were the backend and security. While testing the site via the browser console, I discovered that the site state could be changed via the public API without logging in with an administrator account. So, I separated the public API and administrator API paths and blocked PATCH and DELETE requests on the public endpoint. I created WEBBIN, a space for collecting strange, useful, personal, and even unnecessary websites. After making these changes, testing the same requests again resulted in a 405 Method Not Allowed error, demonstrating that the security issue was resolved. Although this project started with a very simple website idea, I am proud to have learned about databases, APIs, authentication, environment variables, deployment, and basic web security as a result. To test it out, add a websites or category and try using the search and category filtering features....

Hi folks, I have started working on the HTML part of this Stardance tracker dashboard. I have made a basic not-visually-appealing project right now. Since I am a very basic coder I don’t have that much experience. I am not an old coder or an experienced coder so I have made a basic dashboard. Yo, what’s up everyone? I have completed my Stardance tracker perfectly and I’ll be shipping my project ASAP. Get ready to experience it!
My project was ready to ship but since I am a very new coder I used AI to complete this project. Therefore my project was flagged with 50% AI whereas the threshold is 30% AI use. Now I am trying to code by myself a few more components so that I can get my AI use to 30% and human code to 70% and I’ll publish my project as soon as possible.

I built a progress tracker for Hack Club’s Stardance challenge — a dashboard that tells you what your hours are actually worth. The next step is making it work for any hackathon: live listings of what’s running, which ones are still open to join, how to enter, deadlines and prizes — all in one place instead of scattered across Slack and a dozen tabs. I’ve got the basics sorted, a laid out plan and have started the menu. My main highlight so far has been getting the file checking working, so it greets the user by it’s name if they have it stored in the user data file and otherwise it catches it rather than crashing on FileNotFoundError.
I completely forgot to do development logs!! So frustrated but I will try to name my progress over the 8 hours of work. I have recorded what the game does now, it doesn’t work on most boundary cases and there are a lot of ways to break it, such as saying a number too high in Connect 4 creates an uncaught IndexError. However, I am just proud to get a Connect 4 board that renders the positions of the tokens, and makes sure they fall to the bottom. It also stores the leaderboard in a text file in a slightly weird looking syntax I created. Also, the user name is saved.
I have fixed lots of the problems with the game failing on bad values, and have started the Tic Tac Toe game (and the number guesser which is very easy compared to the others), which works in a similar way to the Connect 4 game.
I have completed the tic tac toe game and leaderboard. The overall shell of the game is complete :)
Hopefully time to ship! I have done some of the final touches, and I got it on pypi, so it can now be installed using pip command: pip install charlie-game-compendium and run using: charlie-games
My last shipment failed because I was getting the user to manually state when they win. While this was intentional, as in real life, part of Connect 4 and Tic Tac Toe (noughts and crosses) is keeping track. However, I like the suggestion, and the 2 games that didn’t have win detection now do. Now I believe I am ready to ship. Just Finished the 😵 Biggest Challenge Getting the layout, spacing, colors, and sections to look right took a lot of trial and error. I kept tweaking things until it finally felt like my own portfolio. 😭 The coding was one thing, but making everything look good together was the real boss fight. 😂
After receiving a change request I decided to make some adjustments to my Personal Site. The biggest change was the design. My first version used a VS Code theme. Keeping that look without relying too much on AI was a quite difficult for me so instead of pushing hard the idea I choose to change my theme and go with the current design that I can keep building and improving my self. Of course, the changes didn’t go completely smoothly. 😅 I spent almost 2 hours trying to figure out why the fonts and background images weren’t loading on GitHub Pages. Everything looked perfectly code wise and i was wondering what was wrong. Then when I checked each and every file the structure of the project I found out that my My style.css was inside the assets/css folder, but I was using paths as if the CSS file was in the root folder. 🤦♂️ Now that the changes are done I’m finally very happy with the version I have now. It feel more natural to work on, more personal and easier to keep growing.

What did you make? I made my own personal website to showcase who I am, what I’m learning, my skills, and the projects I’ve worked on. I wanted it to feel simple, clean, and actually represent me instead of looking like a generic template. What challenge did you face? The biggest challenge was getting everything to look right and work properly across different screen sizes. I also had to fix a lot of small bugs and design issues along the way. Sometimes a tiny change would break something else 😭, so I spent quite a bit of time debugging and polishing the site. What are you proud of? I’m proud that I built the site myself and actually finished it. I’m especially happy with how the final design came together after all the small improvements. More than anything, I’m proud that this is something I can now call my own personal space on the web. What do you want others to check in your project? I’d love people to check out the overall design and the different sections of the website, especially the projects and the way everything is organized. I’d also love them to try it on both desktop and mobile and see how it feels. And most importantly, I hope people can get a small idea of who I am just by exploring the site. 🚀...

Bringing this project together from scratch has been quite a ride, so here is my final reflection on what was hard, what was fun, and what I am taking away from it all. What Was Hard Hands down, the hardest part was dealing with browser background throttling. When you are building something time-based, you naturally reach for setInterval and assume it will just work. Watching modern browsers completely freeze or slow down those timers the second a user switches tabs was super frustrating. Figuring out how to completely rethink my approach and switch to absolute timestamps took a lot of trial, error, and console logging before it finally clicked. What Was Fun The most fun part was definitely watching the raw logic come together and actually work. There is a very specific kind of satisfaction when you stare at a broken feature, completely rewrite the underlying JavaScript mechanism, and then watch the app snap into place and handle edge cases effortlessly. Seeing it go from a buggy concept to something smooth and reliable feels amazing. What I Learned This whole process taught me that you cannot always trust default tools or quick solutions, especially when dealing with browser environments. I learned how important it is to design state and timing logic to be resilient rather than fragile. It also gave me a much deeper appreciation for vanilla JavaScript and how much you can build without needing to rely on massive, heavy frameworks to do the heavy lifting for you. As always, if you want to look at the code, break it, or suggest a cleaner way I could have written something, the repo is wide open over on GitHub. They do it to save battery, but for an app like this, it means your timer completely falls apart or freezes the second you look away. How I fixed it: Instead of trusting setInterval to accurately count every single second, I switched over to using timestamps with Date.now and performance.now. Instead of asking the code if a second passed every tick, it now checks what the exact math difference is between the start time and right now. Even if the browser puts the tab to sleep for 30 seconds, the second you switch back, the script instantly calculates the real elapsed time and snaps the UI right where it needs to be. Now I am building a calendar from scratch.. seems like my brain will be roasted while doing this…
i have finished making the calendar… it was a tough time… because i had spend extra half hour because i saw a wrong calendar and thinking that aug has 29 days… after using 200% of my brain i at last find out my code was correct, i was mistaking…
added a new section where news will be shown, and also made it show image of the day from nasa as the background image…
i have added the clock and the search bars. next i will add the news feed, weather report , and the search logic , and a section to add your favorite apps.
Now the search bars are working, but the news api’s are not working properly….
i fixed it, now news is showing properly.
i have fixed some bugs ,and some styling issues, now it looks great, and ready to use, and i am shipping it now.

Quick Start Explore TermTab: Try It Now! Features Clean & Modern Design - Dynamic scaling with dark mode support inspired by Apple Terminal’s Basic theme. Search the Web - use goto and search to navigate to a website or search with your favorite search engine, respectively. Get Info - use loc and info to fetch info about your current IP address or US zip code or information about your session, respectively. Check the Weather - use weather (and any subsequent flags) to fetch the current and forecasted weather for your estimated location or US zip code. Technicals Built on Svelte - Chosen for its highly interactive design, Svelte helps remove the tedious DOM manipulation that comes with basic JavaScript and HTML. With its direct implementation of TypeScript, Svelte made it easy to develop the website without the HTML and CSS getting in the way. TailwindCSS - TailwindCSS was chosen for most of the styling because it provided and easy, plug-and-play solution for this simple application. It streamlined the codebase by removing verbose CSS. Custom TypeScript - The most substantial aspects of this project is the custom TypeScript implementation to abstract the terminal-DOM manipulations from the commands. Using Vite’s import.meta.glob , the website dynamically fetches the commands from $lib/terminal/commands , making it easy for new commands to be created or altered. However, much of the work was dedicated to developing the Terminal class outlined in the next section. The Terminal Seperating the Frontend and Backend - The bulk of the terminal’s logic resides in the Terminal class. It provides functions for commands to “print” to the console (appends the information as unique “lines” in a list), acting similar to any other terminal I/O program. Using TypeScript - One of the most useful features that comes with TypeScript is the ability to describe how objects can behave relative to each other. For example, a Command class is created as the “blueprint” for any terminal command and has methods for executing and providing help. By not hard-coding the commands directly in the terminal, users can create commands to supplement the default commands. Commands Vary in Complexity - Although most of the commands are quite straightforward, some are more complex and use the user’s computer to complete its task. Take for example the weather command. It uses OpenMeteo’s API to fetch the weather, but that API requires longitude and latitude coordinates. To resolve this issue, the loc command was created to use the user’s estimated location fetched from freeipapi.com or, using a US zip code, zippopotam.us . Then, the information is converted into a user-friendly output, with the number of forecasted days being controlled by the user. All Local - Notably, TermTab does not have any centeralized server to phone home to. Instead, the entire website is run “locally” by the user’s browser. Since there is no need to host a centeralized database, TermTab is shipped like any other static webpage (just with some JS/TS on top). Acknowledgements Svelte & SvelteKit Documentation - Assisted in the setup process and converting it into a static webpage using adapter-static and information about dynamically importing TypeScript files. #Devlog 1: Hi, welcome to a hardware project devlog. In this project, I am creating a pantry scanner. I have drawn my schematic board and am soldering the PCB. I forgot to record my soldering part, but here is the overview of the project.
Devlog 2: This devlog, it records how the front end works. I use arduino IDE with coding language C+ to make the ESP32 Camera work, It can capture 1600x1200px, which is useful for the backend. The backend is used to store the captured picture and analyse the expiry date of the food.
Devlog3: ##Working on front end My front end is using Python as the main language, alongside html and css, the website look plain as I just built the basic version Next step: connect front end and back end
Devlog 4: Today, I connected the front and back end; however, the camera quality wasn’t as good as I expected, and it couldn’t scan the barcode to retrieve the data. Now, I am rethinking how to retrieve the data and what the next step should be.
Devlog 5: Finally, I finish my first version of my pantry scanner, due to camera quality, sometime it can read the expiry date, sometime it can’t, but I already try my best to make it work. I can’t film the whole process, but I try to snip a bit of how this camera actually work in screenshot and a video
Ships:
Finally, I finished my first version of my pantry scanner. Due to camera quality, sometimes it can read the expiry date; sometimes it can’t, but I already tried my best to make it work What I actually built –Firmware on ESP32-CAM: press a button, it captures a photo and uploads it over WI-Fi – A local Python backend that reads the photo, tries OCR for the expiry date, attempts barcode decoding using an external API and saves everything to a database – A web dashboard showing every scanned item sorted by soonest-expiring first, with edit and remove buttons for fixing up anything the camera couldn’t capture The hard part The hardest part is to get the camera to read text and turn it into the dashboard. I went through extensive debugging, more than I have recorded in the devlog. Fixing the lens, dealing with blur, and looking at the barcode-decoding problem, it turned out the camera quality is the major issue. Next Step – Use a dedicated barcode scanner instead of relying on the camera –Create a fixed scanning stand using 3D printing for more consistent capture quality than hand positioning. – Attach a macro lens attachment for the camera to improve small print in OCR...

The Solution: Kept it clean and simple using user_data . Persistence: Added persistent storage so data isn’t lost on restart. Honestly, I was mind-blown by how powerful Python persistence is—enabling this took literally just a couple of lines of code! 2. Refactoring & Modularizing Code I decided it was time to break up my codebase into multiple modules/files: Separation of Concerns: Initially, my architecture felt a bit messy—files knew too much about each other’s internal logic and were tightly coupled. I refactored the project so that each file and module is more autonomous and encapsulated. Troubleshooting: Splitting the code broke a few things at first, but after a bit of debugging, everything is working smoothly now. 3. User Experience & Input Validation I made several quality-of-life improvements to make the bot feel much more robust: Daily Log Reminders: Added a daily reminder prompting users to log their data for the day. (Note: Users just need to run /start once to initialize reminders and resets). Strict Input Validation: Added input filters. If a step requires a number, invalid text is rejected; if it asks to pick an activity, custom inputs are blocked. Initial commits to Fokuser! We got the name ‘Fokuser’ from the Norwegian plural word of ‘focus’. The Chrome Extension currently lets you set a time until to block sites. It is a very basic implementation using chrome.storage.local and chrome.alarms APIs.
Finished the publishable version of the extension! It now tracks the amount of time you focused and features a whitelist and blacklist to whitelist/blacklist sites.
Added Do Not Disturb mode that blocks notifications by using the chrome.contentSettings API. Also added a redesigned settings UI.
Added a scheduler to Fokuser to let users dedicate a certain time to focus. Also did some bug patches to do with state management and synchronization.

There were multiple points where I had to stop, troubleshoot for hours, and basically rebuild parts of it (looking at you, Dashboard). But I’m genuinely glad I stuck with it, and honestly happy I finished it earlier than I thought I would after all those setbacks. Final state Study OS now has a working Dashboard, Focus sessions, Planner, Assignments, Exams, Notes, Flashcards, Quizzes, Grades, Subjects, and Study Insights — all built out and functioning together instead of as separate disconnected pieces. Full sidebar’s complete — Assignments, Exams, Notes, Flashcards, Quizzes, Grades, Subjects, Study Insights, all of it exists now. Like everything works fine on its own page, but none of it is actually showing up back on the Dashboard where it’s supposed to summarize. Why this is happening (probably) I think this is because I built each feature kinda separately instead of hooking them into the Dashboard from the start, so now they’re just not talking to each other properly. The plan Gonna end up rewriting the Dashboard basically from scratch so instead of being its own isolated thing, it actually pulls from all the features and displays their output cleanly in one place. Most of the core structure is in place, just need to: Finish wiring up the last few features Make sure everything actually talks to each other — like tasks/quizzes/grades all updating the Dashboard properly instead of existing in their own little bubble What’s next Thinking this’ll take another 1-2 sessions to fully wrap up.
