I started the Custom New Tab mission, and got all of the setup finished. It took way longer than expected because the .env file kept showing up in the repo even though it was in the gitignore. I finally fixed it after adding *.env to the gitignore, but it took me a while to figure that out.
I finally got the API call to work, and the image is finally displaying. The reason it took so long to work was because I gave my env file a name, which meant that vite couldn’t recognize it and the API call failed. Luckily, I was finally able to figure it out, which means that I’m now moving on to css styling.
I added all the CSS, so the site looks really good now. One touch I added at the end that I really liked was an animated background. The stars subtly twinkle, and I think it looks really cool. Although I was originally planning to expand this into a full new tab page after this, I’ve decided to finish this project here, since I don’t think it would look that good if I took what I have now and delegate it to a corner of the page. The player has functions such as skip forward/backward and the option to shuffle or repeat music. I made my first ever website, I have never coded before and this was my first attempt. I made a bunny website where you can see my favourite image of a bunny eating some grapes. I also added a link under the image which redirects you to a website where you can see a new image of a bunny every day. I changed the font so it looks nice and made the background green to try match the image.
Today I improved my website design, I focused on trying to add a gif as my main image, I also added a background image and I did not want to stretch the image so i made a tile effect where it repeats the same image. I also changed the background colour behind each text writing and added a border effect.
Today I made some huge improvements to my OS, i added a clock, 4 apps: An app that opens daily dose of bunny site, a music app, a gallery app that lets you change the image in the centre, a settings app with options to turn on/off the top bar, change the background and font and change from light to dark mode. The only issue I have is I cant figure out how to play music from online so i did it so i upload the music mp3 file and cover art to be able to play the music.
Ships:
I made an web OS called Bunny OS that is based on bunnies because it is my favourite animal. Features: Music player: lets you import MP3 files from your device along with cover art with the same name as the mp3 file, it has a animation style inspired by an ipod where if you hover over the cover art, it has a nice effect. The player has functions such as skip forward/backward and the option to shuffle or repeat music. Bunny Gallery: Lets you view pre-set images of bunnies and when you click on an image it changes the image on the background to it. Mini website: When you open the mini website, it opens the daily dose of bunny site where you can see a new picture of a bunny daily (I did not make that website i just linked it to my OS, the official site is: https://dailybunny.org/ ) Settings: Lets you change the background gradient of the OS, lets you toggle between light and dark mode, lets you change the font of the build in clock, lets you toggle the top bar on/off Draggable windows: Lets you drag open app windows anywhere on the screen You can open this link to run it: https://bunnyos.netlify.app Disclamer: I did use AI (Google Gemini) for any errors/spelling mistakes I faced. I originally tried using youtube to play music but I could not figure out how to get it to work so I also used ai for the code to import local files but that is all. I will work on this to add more features etc, I am still learning so it will take time....

I have created a simple system for the back end of my game, which has a simple class which will contain an inventory. Using this I will now create a new project for a potential CLI game…
I have learnt how to use multiple inheritance and how aggregation and composition works. Below is the exemplar code I wrote to demonstrate the relationship. Using this knowledge, and the previous code I am now going to implement private and protected methods to ensure people cannot exploit my game as I begin to create it.
Today I began working on the core game logic, taking everything i have learnt and implementing it into a terminal based game! I have currently implemented three classes, each encapsulating methods and attributes (i.e. inventory have getters and setters). I hope by the next devlog, the core logic is 70% done (currently 25%)….

During this project, I had to understand how composition works! This was hard to understand initially but whilst coding this it helped make sense to me.. Using this project, i will now be able to create a more sophisticated system and work with classes in my other projects....

Devlogs:
DEVLOG #1 YAYYY FIRST DEV LOG!!! I tried using the guide but it was really boring lol so I made my own new tab and after some research I found out its actually REALLY easy to add a working google search-bar so I added that the to center and also I added a cool weather widget I made so you can view the weather from inside the website! Its pretty basic right now so I added some blur effects and outlines, etc with css so it looks pretty good at least :D
DEVLOG #2 Today I added a bookmarks and calendar widget! The calendar took forever to add, working and cool-looking, without doxxing myself lol, and the bookmarks are just a new widget form I recoded from my old bookmark manager project.
DEVLOG #3 I added a clock from my old website to go above the search bar and wrote a quick readme for the website so people can easily read how to config and setup the new tab
Ships:
NovaTab is my custom newtab page where you can be greated with a beautiful tab everytime you open a new tab! NovaTab has everything from custom calendar support, to a custom-made bookmark widget, and dymanic weather and timezone systems using various apis....

Pixhawk and Motor Movement
Synced up a second motor while putting some extra pins so my pixhawk doesn’t shout out again. Hoping this works bc I’ve already fried a pixhawk or 2..
Putting everything into the frame
Did tons of planning based on some general questions
Finished the logs of everything
Dataset research and idea refining
Trained a simple YOLO AI
Working on getting test results for a baseline of YOLO detection on mountain and beach areas. Next step to is train it with custom data!
Worked on researching different search methods such as Bayesian Greedy Search and Monte Carlo Tree Search. This includes what datasets I should implement to better suit the methods.
Worked on training the AI even more, got all the models trained but might need to retrain due to low accuracy rates. Next step should be figuring out the simulations part of stuff.
Worked on finalizing the readme alongside finishing up the code. More to do, but stardance is gonna end soon

Instead of focusing only on finding the fastest route, SafeRoute considers safety factors, nearby hazards, weather alerts, and community-reported dangers to help users choose a safer way to reach their destination. One of the most challenging parts was integrating multiple services, including OpenRouteService, Firebase, and AI, while making sure the app could handle unreliable API responses and location data. I’m proud of bringing together features like safety scores, alternative routes, emergency tools, trusted contacts, and community hazard reporting into one app with a consistent, easy-to-use interface. To test SafeRoute, allow location access and explore the Home and Safety pages to view safety information and calculate routes. Try different travel modes, compare route safety scores, submit a community hazard, and explore the Trips, Emergency, and Profile pages. Some features depend on internet connectivity and external services, so results may vary. Overall, SafeRoute is designed to support safer travel decisions to keep you and every other user safe. Reminder: As mentioned in the README, this app was created using Expo Go, which means to run it, you can download Expo SDK 58, install, and log into the application. This app only works on Apple devices so far and Beta Testing is still going on for Android. I built SafeRoute , an AI-powered safety navigation app designed to help people make safer decisions when traveling. Enjoy!...

When a player is close to a barrier, they must try to pass through it, using the quantum tunneling equation to calculate the ability to do so. I’ve also used two more concepts in the game: the observer effect and decoherence. Moreover, I added a five-barrier position-race, streaks, shaking visuals, audio programming, and a complete title screen. The real challenge was making sure that all these mechanisms work together in harmony. At times, I was in situations where the regular path of following procedures was working fine, while the edge cases were making the game unusable. Timers would freeze, steps would become unreachable, and variables would only be accessible on a certain execution path. I even made one ill-placed parentheses that would have completely ruined the game experience. The thing I’m most proud of is that I’ve made a game about quantum physics. But rather than just making a game based on quantum physics concepts, I meant to reflect those physics in terms of gameplay. To test it, use the arrow keys to move around, press Space to charge, O to observe, and P to restart. You should try failing on purpose, observing a barrier, and leaving it charged for too long. Additionally, we would appreciate any bug reports as all the bugs are basically my unpaid testers.", "repo": "https://github.com/rishavjha8515-hub/quantum-tunneling", "demo": "https://github.com/rishavjha8515-hub/quantum-tunneling/releases/tag/v1.0"}]...

This time, it is now about making the game fair, replayable and download-friendly. Balancing phase After analyzing the numbers, I found an issue: the height of the barrier can go as high as 2.0 but the maximum energy level is 1.4. Thus, some barriers are literally invincible because it is impossible to break through them no matter how well the player performs. The charge speed also varied from “almost 7 seconds” to “instant charging”, leading to different results every time. I have put all the variables related to gameplay in one line, so the process of making the game better became much easier.## Highest score The top score is stored in a small file, which allows it to persist even after you exit the game. The welcome screen displays the score, and if you lose, it says “NEW HIGH SCORE!” on the game over screen. The record is present in the repository, so my score won’t overwrite anybody else’s. Sound for everything The ghost, answers in trivia, and entangled transfers didn’t have any sounds. I have added sounds: a sound of the ghost appearing with a whoosh, a sound of a correct answer rising in pitch, the sound of a wrong answer producing low frequency buzz, and a beep sound of a partner barrier charging. All sounds are produced in code without using audio files. Schrödinger boxes A few boxes marked as ? are placed between walls. When you click on one box with the help of the button E , it determines what is inside. When you click on the box, the result of what is inside the box is set randomly, which can be either +5 seconds, -4 seconds, or charge for the next wall. Every time a level appears, each box can exist with the probability of 60%.## My ship has been returned. The review indicated that my GitHub release did not include an executable file, therefore voters were unable to play the game. That’s true that a .py file is not considered a game by anyone who does not have Python installed. Now I am addressing this issue by using PyInstaller to convert the game into Windows .exe file and adding it to the release. One thing I had to deal with is that packaged game runs from temporary folder and as a result my high score file gets lost every time I run the game. Now it saves in the same folder as the exe file. Conclusion: If someone has to install anything in order to play your game, most likely, they won’t. Deliver your application the way it can be launched with a single click. What is next Complete the release and resubmit it, then let someone else who has never seen the game play it."}, {"post_id": 79443, "ts": "2026-10-14T00:43:15Z", "hours": 6.3511, "text": "Devlog #4 — the walls are real now, and so is the spooky action We launched the project and moved forward. This sprint has completely redesigned the game dynamics. Walls that block Before this point players have only walked through barriers as there was no penalty for tunneling. Now the player collides with walls. If you want to pass the wall, you must use tunneling which will cost you some time and potentially break your chain. Entanglement that works My previous iteration of entangled pairs was useless. It only changed the level of difficulty of the partner. With solid walls the simulation did not vary on every run and many pairs did the same thing. Therefore I had to write it again. the barriers of the same shape are paired randomly during every run when you free a barrier at any point of charge the partner barrier inherits that charge . Mirror pairs have the same charge and their partners receive it as well.-The observer lock does not send anything to the partner as forced collapse does not provide any signal. So the order in which you pair now becomes an important decision to make. The secret is stored in a non-versioned .env file, which has a .env.example alongside in the repository. Now the splash screen features an animated “asking Groq…” message that only goes away once the actual answer provided. ## Quantum phantom The phantom version of the player appears at a random location, moves through the walls in your direction. The passed wall receives a slight charge. This idea stemmed from ChatGPT, although the first version worked infrequently because it required the ghost to be only up to 24x away from the center of the wall. However, walls can be as wide as 140px, so I made changes to the spawning position of the ghost. The failure of watching seems different now Now watching an obstacle and failing does not shake the screen as before. A light freezing-blue light appears instead of shaking the screen since the failure is actually caused by you.## Bugs that caused me trouble The ghost class malfunctioned in three different ways: one instance is code at a class level, where there’s no self , second is using camera.x instead of camera_x and third is missing out .choice from random([-1, 1]) . I misspelled the name of the environment variable with GRQO_API_KEY , causing the game to return “no key found” no matter what action was taken. The title screen was stuck on “checking” forever, as the timer never progressed during that time. Finally, I experienced a fallback trivia answer being set to index 0, which was incorrect. There was a bug when restarting, as the barrier I was standing on before the timer ran out persisted through the next run. The trends are clear: while everything works smoothly, bugs persist every time there’s a reset or an edge case. What I’m planning next Cleaning up the code and improving the decoherence timer."}, {"post_id": 77502, "ts": "2026-10-07T08:13:58Z", "hours": 3.0575, "text": "Devlog #3 - A Video Game Is All Out Judging You by Looking at It The last part was less about “building walls” and more about “bring the physics into play.” Three legitimate quantum concepts converted into game mechanics together with front gates and sound. Observer Effect (the unique one) Press O during charging and the game discloses the real probability of passing the tunnel. The only problem is that if you look at the wall, it means that it has already turned into a wall, so you cannot succeed anyway. Even the slightest observer activity while charging means you cannot reach your goal. The moment you look at a wall, it acquires a flat gray color, which allows you to see the process happening. Decoherence (yes, it is once again my research) If you keep the wall under full charge for too long, decoherence happens. It turns dark purple, a time counter appears, and at about 1.2 seconds later it collapses, meaning your attempt is wasted, the screen shaking and your counter being reset. Front Door The game currently has a door in the front. It is now fitted with a proper title screen that is complete with first controls, allowing one who hadn’t ever played the game to start without the presenter’s assistance. No operation can take place until a button is pressed, and the stopwatch doesn’t start until a button is pressed. Audio All audio signals are produced using code and NumPy. The sounds emitted are: A rising tone for success A falling tone for failure A flat tone for looking at the failure A long falling tone for decoherence It was done intentionally to make all failure sounds sound different because they have different meanings. Colors Now all the on-screen text is written in proper colors, not dark blue-grey but bright cyan, yellow, violet, and green instead. All pieces of information appeared to be readable at a glance, and each type of information has its unique appearance. Here Are My Fails This Time The guard has been in the wrong place. I put in the check on the barrier charging, but instead of putting the check when the key gets released, I put it when the key gets pressed, leading to the failure of the barrier charging and changing color. An else statement that followed a wrong if . The program crashed with a NameError because the variable existed only on the path that had not been executed. A timer that got stuck. It stopped counting as soon as I added the title screen to the game. The parenthesis in the purple shade blend that could have made the game crash with the very first barrier being charged. The streak that became 1.0 , then 2.0 , and so on. The mistake here is that I made it zero instead of dropping the decimal point. The same trend: the happy path always works, the errors occur on the borderline. What Follows Playing the game, tuning up the decoherence timer, and getting the game out."}, {"post_id": 76037, "ts": "2026-10-02T04:40:38Z", "hours": 3.0006, "text": "##Devlog ##2 – A transition from “two walls in a void” to genuine gameplay After just 3 hours of development, the game is transitioning from a tech demo into an actual game. Here is an outline of what has been accomplished. The Juice Mechanic Portal swirl – a circular motion of particles going around the barrier which spins faster, the more strength is used. A minute of debugging time was required as all dots were stacking together – I didn’t use the separate angle of every dot! Success/fail flashes – a green glow while going through the wall and red if the wall is impenetrable, offering the feedback after successfully completing an action instead of just allowing it to fail without any acknowledgement of it. Screen shake on fail – even after failure the player feels the impact and knows about the failure instead of experiencing a total silence. Squash and stretch – the player stretches for a little while while moving through the wall, following a basic animation principle. Making the physics unpredictable for real The speed of charge and “height” of barriers are now re-rolled after each attempt instead of using fixed values. The game does not allow you to memorize the correct timing (like “holding for 1.4 seconds = guaranteed tunnel”) — it requires you to track the live readout for P(tunnel) every time. The solution feels appropriate for something connected with quantum mechanics, as certainty is not an aim. Moving from the sandbox to real levels 5-barrier gauntlet as opposed to the fixed 2 test walls with the width that is changing in a bigger range. Scrolling camera so there is a chance to make the world bigger than the screen. The camera position is derived from the world one, which makes possible separating “world position” (used for all the logic) from “screen position” (used only for drawing). World limits so it is impossible for the player just to walk away into infinite empty space. The camera and the player are clamped at the end now with “the end of the line” message. Creating a game that you can actually lose Timed run — random duration for each session (nothing is left out of the randomness of the concept), race to accumulate tunnels before the time runs out Restart — press P (as opposed to R because why should we make it easier) and replay without restarting the script Streak system — number of consecutive wins would create the multiplier, any loss resets the count back to zero and also a separate best streak record Problems I encountered in this session Firstly, using two elifs consecutively that reference the same event type caused the second elif to be impossible to execute. Surprisingly, I had done this exact mistake two times in one session. Another issue was a snippet of code that was expected to run in its own right, but instead remained inside if active_barrier. This unintentionally meant that an entire portion of the game over screen would not work unless the character was next to the wall when time ended. ##Devlog ##2 – A transition from “two walls in a void” to genuine gameplay After just 3 hours of development, the game is transitioning from a tech demo into an actual game. It seemed to be a random invisible text bug for too long. Moreover, I made an indentation error that unintentionally disabled four lines of code after running only once. Each of these problems was an easy fix once I found them, but it took me a while to do that because testing included edge case scenarios (standing on empty space, failing deliberately, etc.) instead of just getting through the easy way. Plans for future improvement I am currently considering adding a question system (a few trivia questions about physics to answer during the charge process) and developing instructions screen to enable players to learn how to play this game even if they never played.
Devlog #3 - A Video Game Is All Out Judging You by Looking at It The last part was less about “building walls” and more about “bring the physics into play.” Three legitimate quantum concepts converted into game mechanics together with front gates and sound. What Follows Playing the game, tuning up the decoherence timer, and getting the game out.
Devlog #4 — the walls are real now, and so is the spooky action We launched the project and moved forward. What I’m planning next Cleaning up the code and improving the decoherence timer.
Devlog #5 - Revision phase, mystery boxes and making the game functional Devlog #4 described the big update regarding gameplay mechanics. What is next Complete the release and resubmit it, then let someone else who has never seen the game play it.

I went ahead and created a game called Doraemon’s Quantum Tunnel, which incorporates quantum tunneling into physics. Additionally, we would appreciate any bug reports as all the bugs are basically my unpaid testers....

Creating a CTF style challenge website to learn, problem solve, and explore some cybersecurity areas. What I found was challenging during this process was the fact that I was having to learn and pick up the javascript as I created the project. Due to having to learn the javascript as I went, since I had very basic knowledge at the start, this added to the time aspect quite a lot. I also did many new things in terms of styling to page which led to more errors and time that I spent learning and fixing as I went. Though I do like how the site turned out and am happy that I was able to create around fourteen challenges in total. I was also quite proud of how the styling did turn out since making many of the elements was new to me. When testing this page and going through the challenges, everything that you need for the cryptography challenges is provided if you need the assistance. Devlogs:
Starting the basics, getting the idea and base down along with the basic formatting and styling done (though it may change later). Most of the text is just placeholders for now and again may change later. Later me problems.
Second Log: Doing some more styling since I want to get that mostly set up as I work on starting the challenges. Adding a couple more pages since I am procrastinating doing the actual web challenges and I wanted them anyway. Plus it took me much longer than it should have to just make a nav bar that still needs some work.
Third log: Well I continued to work on the crypt page. Formatted it so you can see and the challenge and hint with different sections so you can look at challenge without seeing hint. This took me, again, probs longer than it should have. I did other things along with some organisation. Oh and I played around making a couple simple challenges.
Log four: Well after a lot of reading I got this set up for a backend I think. Very first time doing this so I think will take couple times to fully get it but its working for now so I am gonna take that as a win.
OK so I worked on setting up what I think should work as local storage. While setting that up it messed up something else, which I had to fix. I also linked up the progress/checkbox tracker across all the pages and a way to reset said progress. I also went through and fixed some bugs I came across. (Text may change since some are placeholders still)
So that took so much longer than I thought it was going to. Not to mention the challenge that I wanted to compleat is still not done, but I don’t want to continue tonight so here I am. Oh well, I think the base of the entier site is mostly done for now. I am just going though and adding the challenges now. I think I have about ten and half done, but I will be focusing on adding them from now on.
So I got a couple more challenges done for the site today. I think I may only do 2 more challenges (one in in each section) for now so hopefully that will happen tomorrow. Anyway the pic is from one of the web challenges I made, like the last 3 were.
Well I decided that it would be good to have a page with all the answers to the challenge so here we are. Each challenge will have a quick description on how to solve it, as well as the final flag. I also did some re-styling and adding little things in here and there.
Well I added some challenges and finally got round to editing the home page which I had been putting off for ages now. I want to fix the intro text for the home page but not much else for now. I think I am mostly done and might think about shipping soon but we will see how we go.
Just doing what should hopefully be last edits, bug fixes, read throughs, and styling for the page as a whole.

The idea of this page was to create a selection of easy to hard challenges that cover a range of different cryptography ciphers as well as web exploration challenges. To complete the web exploration challenges you will need to be able to use the inspect element tool....

Had fun time doing it <3 .
Today, I finally fixed my image gallery by organizing all my bird photos into a local folder. I renamed the image files and updated the HTML paths so every single picture loads cleanly on the page. After that I committed the progress and pushed to GitHub. It feels great to see all the six birds showing up properly now.

Devlog 2 so i started with goal to display info cards of my coding profiles from different platform, but turns out that i cant codechef has deprecated their public api, leetcode graphql api can only be accesed from server, so was only able to display my codeforces and github stats after this i added a toto list card, initially it was a card but later i made it like aa sidebar app insted for better UX i also worked on settings to customize the design , some thing i have completed like selecting which cards to display, theme, and bg, but there is still imporvement like more option for images, gradient and colour also more then just dark and light theme, maybe a comic theme and termical theme created a component for displaying time, date and weather, weather thing is yer to be completed
Devlog 3 this time i fixed the weather card, now it shows the correct weather based on your location, and also shows the correct time and date. i also made UI improvements and now the todo list is on the left side of the screen, almost 100% long added text shadow to text, so that its visible on any image as a background
Devlog 4 wrote some of css again, removed the AI snippets that I had used fixed some bugs like, error on refetching data when handle is chagned showed more info in cards thorugh codeforces and github apis (commits and next rank requirement in codeforces) the image in the bg was not loading on the first opening of the website, fixed that too
Devlog Last time reject due to my project being ai heavy, idk, the ui was generated with google stitch and then i coded it out, i just removed the css and redesign the website completely i took the inspiraation my from my old project, idk i made it like 3-4 years ago, link below https://ashish757.github.io/some-frontend-stuff/guess-the-number/index.html

I made the necessary changes while keeping the existing gameplay intact. After the fixes, I ran node –check game.js to check for JavaScript syntax errors, and it passed. Next, I’ll test the game from start to finish, check for any remaining bugs, finalize the README, and prepare my project for submission to Hack Club StarDance.
Devlog 7 : Escape the Facility Built ESCAPE THE FACILITY , a sci-fi text adventure set in an abandoned lunar research facility, for Hack Club StarDance. The game features exploration, inventory management, combat, health and oxygen systems, surveillance recordings, and a riddle. I created two versions: one in Python and another for the browser using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. I tested both versions, confirmed they worked properly, and pushed the final code to GitHub. GitHub: https://github.com/Mian-Ismail-Shahbaz-Ali/escape-the-facility This project helped me improve my programming, debugging, and testing skills while turning an idea into a working game.

What did you make? I made ESCAPE THE FACILITY , a sci-fi text adventure set in an abandoned lunar research facility. Players explore rooms, collect equipment, fight hostile robots, solve a computer-terminal riddle, and find the Emergency Access Keycard to escape. I built a Python version and a browser version using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. What was challenging? The most challenging part was debugging the game’s logic and making sure exploration, inventory, combat, and progression worked correctly. Creating a browser version alongside the Python game was also challenging, especially learning how the different web technologies fit together. What are you proud of? I’m proud that I turned my idea into a working game with two playable versions. I wrote most of the main gameplay code in Python and JavaScript, tested both versions, and published the project on GitHub with a live browser demo. What should people know so they can test your project? The browser version can be played here: https://mian-ismail-shahbaz-ali.github.io/escape-the-facility/ The source code and README are available here: https://github.com/Mian-Ismail-Shahbaz-Ali/escape-the-facility Players should explore the facility, manage their health and inventory, investigate the research areas, solve the riddle, defeat the security mech, obtain the keycard, and escape. Follow the in-game instructions to play....

Then, open a shell in the directory where the simple-chat or simple-chat.exe file is located (or open one via the start menu and cd into the folder where the file is). You will also need multiple shells for this; at least two (one server and one client) but I recommend testing with three to have two clients join onto one server. First, you need to create a server: ./simple-chat server --new <name> You will get an encryption key and a QR code. You need to copy or note down the encryption key. When scanned, the QR code also contains the encryption key. Then, you need to register the server so the clients can connect to it: ./simple-chat client --add <name> --address localhost <name> doesn’t need to be the same name you used in the first command, but I still strongly recommend it. Now, we wanna start the server: ./simple-chat server <name> You should see something like Running as server on port 42003 . Now, in a second terminal, type: ./simple-chat client <name> --name \"Testuser-1\" Then, you should see the TUI pop up. If not, use the README and the docs in the GitHub repo to troubleshoot. Note: In the above command, we’re using the explicit --name flag because if we want two clients on the same machine, they would try to load the same name from the configs. Therefore, we need to explicitly assign two different names via --name . If you want a second client, run the following in a third terminal: ./simple-chat client <name> --name \"Testuser-2\" Additional Info for the above guide In all of the commands, you should substitute <name> with the name for the server, for example Testserver . New Project!! This is LAN Chat, a TUI chat messenger to use in the same LAN as others. Build using Rust with ratatui (a TUI library) Currently, I have a working client/server system, which sends serialized message structs. Next up, I’m gonna work on getting the TUI running.
TUI Time! :) The TUI works now, I only need to polish it (stuff like scrolling when message box is full) Additonally, I’m planning to add a special kind of message that the server sends on client join/leave events.
im almost done already what So… it kinda works???? The client AND server, the TUI, the new message structs and all of that work now. Changelog Reworked Message Struct(s) and multiple message types ( Chat , System ) Proper connect handshake Rework server to use SystemMessage s to broadcast client connect/disconnect events What’s planned A config file to store your name ( ~/.lan-chat ) Encryption (between clients)
Server Rewrite! I’ve rewritten the server using Tokio instead of Threads for improved performance and less server-side overhead. What Tokio is It utilizes Rust’s async implementation with futures to create a much more lightweight alternative to threads. Basically, you can summon multiple tasks and instead of them being full threads with seperate 8MB stacks and so on, they have way less context switching overhead and a much smaller stack per instance. Other Server-Side Changes In the initial handshake, the client provides its name to the server. If the server receives a message with the wrong name from that client, it will replace the name with the originally given one. Encryption I’m still working on finishing up encryption for all messages and the initial handshake.
Packet Types After a (way too long) pause, I’m finally working on Simple Chat again. I’ve added a packet enum, which wraps all possible kinds of data communication. What this means Basically, now everything that’s being sent has the same interface: serialize and deserialize. You don’t need to worry about what is in this packet, just serialize it, encrypt it and it works. This means handshakes aren’t loose bytes being sent between client and server and held together by pure hopes and dream (im praying somebody gets the reference), but instead a proper packet, which can also now be encrypted. Heartbeats Previously, there was also a big design flaw. If no message was being sent, you couldn’t tell if the others were just not sending anything or had already (uncleanly) disconnected. The TCP stream looked the same in both scenarios. Because of this, I’ve added a Packet::Heartbeat type. It contains no data, and if it gets received by any party, (almost) nothing happens. It’s sole purpose is to keep the stream alive. Now with this, lets say we’re the server: a client doesn’t send a heartbeat twice. We now know that they’ve likely crashed or not properly disconnected in some other way. Because of this, we can now kick them instead of keeping a connection live.
Final Touches Simple Chat is now basically finished after some final touches. Lots of fixes have been made, along with adding more documentation. Here’s a quick changelog: Fix issue where invalid timestamps would panic all clients which received them Fix key inputs being registered twice on windows Check user name length properly Fix multi-line message drawing logic Add a timeout for the initial handshake (5s) Validate chat messages and user names for control characters Write the timestamp on the server-side to prevent spoofing Fix CTRL+C not quitting the TUI Add a TUI message backlog limit Fix the TUI text input box (wide chars now work properly) Update documentation Fix a few other minor inconsistencies

Quantik is a Molecule 3D Viewer built in Rust. You open a .sdf file (or pick a built-in molecule), and you can rotate it, zoom, pan, and hover every atom to see its info. And the fun part: there is no 3D engine and no GPU code . Everything (the projection, the depth buffer, the lighting, the triangle filling) is done by hand on the CPU, and the pixels are just sent to a window with minifb ദ്ദി(˵ •̀ ᴗ - ˵ ) ✧ Why ( °ヮ° ) ? I had 3 reasons: I wanted a 3D molecule viewer that my teacher could use in class, I wanted to really learn how 3D works in depth (so I did it from scratch), and I wanted to use it myself for homework, because most of this kind of software is Windows-only and I use a mac. Core Features ( ദ്ദി ˙ᗜ˙ ) Viewer Atoms as spheres and bonds as cylinders (double and triple bonds are drawn as parallel cylinders) CPK colors and real van der Waals radii Orbit camera with mouse and keyboard, plus auto rotate Hover an atom to see its name, radius and molar mass Info panel with the name, formula, number of atoms, number of bonds and total molar mass Software Renderer Depth buffer, back-face culling, key + fill lighting SSAA anti-aliasing: low quality while you move the camera, 3x when you stop Redraw on demand: the scene is only re-rendered when something changed Atom ID buffer: each pixel remembers which atom drew it, that’s how hovering works Molecule Loading Open any .sdf file with a native file dialog Built-in examples: Water, Methane, Ammonia, Benzene and Ethanol Auto framing: the camera is placed from the size of the molecule What was challenging ? Getting the 3D maths right without an engine was the hardest part: projecting the points, filling the triangles, and making the depth correct with perspective. Also, doing everything on the CPU is slow, so I had to be smart: a low quality render while the camera moves, a high quality one when it stops, and only redrawing when something changed. After that I split the whole project into modules (render, mesh, camera, molecule, ui…) because it was getting hard to read ദ്ദി(˵ •̀ ᴗ - ˵ ) ✧ What are you proud of ? I’m proud that the whole 3D pipeline is mine, and that it is actually useful: my teacher can use it in class, and it runs on macOS, Windows and Linux without any 3D engine or GPU. What should people know so they can test your project ? Go to the GitHub Release and download the version for your OS macOS: the app is not signed (I don’t have an Apple Developer account 🥲), so run xattr -cr /Applications/Quantik.app in the Terminal after you put it in Applications Windows: SmartScreen may warn you, click More info then Run anyway Launch Quantik, then use File > Open... ( Cmd/Ctrl+O ) to load an .sdf file, or Examples > Show list ( Cmd/Ctrl+E ) and press 1 - 9 Things to try Load the Water example Hover an atom to see its info Press Space to make the molecule spin, then - / = to change the speed Rotate the camera and stop: watch the image get smoother Download a molecule as .sdf (for example the Caffeine one from PubChem) and open it Thank you Just a little thank you ❤️ (Everything you need is probably in the README.md)", "repo": "https://github.com/wirenux/Quantik", "demo": "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jiRmYiBzOk"}]...

Devlogs Nº1 So… Yeah this is a pretty big devlogs, and the first one In this project I will create an app to see molecule in 3D all from scratch. From the software rasterizer to the .SDF file parser and a lot more. So in this devlogs I added a lot of the 3D basic of the program. Firstly I tried rendering the Vertex (3D point) of a cude then the triangle and fill the triangle. And redo the same with the UV Sphere and Cylinder (the uv sphere will be the atoms and the cylinder the bonds). The color of each “object” can be changed quite easly. I also added basic ambient lighting. I have also done a LOT of optimization (since this run on the CPU)
Devlogs Nº2 So in 4 hours a lot has been done . Basically I finished all the Math part . And here is a list of everything I added: A new camera control, the Orbital camera (like in 3D CAD software or KSP) A scroll limit based on the farthest atom from the center A SDF parser (to display each atoms and bounds via a single file) So you can import every molecule you want ! Some optimization Now atoms have colors (if the atom don’t have a implemented color it will just be a bright magenta) and different radius (like in the vdm representation) 🎨 A way BETTER lightning system (now you don’t even see the “edge of the UV sphere and the cylinder) A new file structure The name of the molecule in the title bar (and if there is no name in the custom array it just print his CID) Here are some picture of it. In this picture there is water (H2O) and caffeine (which is way more complex)
Devlogs Nº3 In this devlogs I have done a lot of little things like those : A file opener at start of the app A tooltip for each atoms with : Name, Symbol, Radius and Molar Mass New molecule like: cocaine, vitamin C, etc… With CMD+O / CTRL+O it’s open a file explorer (on windows, macOS and Linux) A new macOS and windows menu for shortcuts Space to make the molecule rotate automatically + and - key can now modify the speed of auto rotate R reset the camera position Pan movement to move the camera position (x, y, z) Fix some bugs
Devlogs Nº4 Ok so… 🎵 it’s been sooo looonnnngg 🎵… In the last 6h30 I’ve done kinda lot of things like those : A start screen who tell you open a file or an example molecule A little box in the top left corner for all the information on the molecule (like the formula, the molar mass etc…) ℹ️ Fixed some bug with the bonds rendering 🐛 Added a example menu with built-in molecule (so you don’t have to download a .sdf file) Anti-aliasing (SSAA) when moving the camera the SSAA is reduced to not hurt the performance but when stop moving the SSAA quality go up Added my username on the home screen Created a logo with the help of @c3a5m7 (on youtube) A VERY BIG reorganization in the whole project to make the project more clear with separated part, like the maths part, and the ui part etc… 🧹
Devlogs Nº5 - The last one :D So in this little devlog I had done quite a lot : The README.md is now created The released has been published All the binary has been build Now the next step is to write the Ship BYE
Ships:
Quantik v1.0.0 - A Molecule 3D Viewer with no 3D engine What is this ? ( Cmd/Ctrl+O ) to load an .sdf file, or Examples > Show list ( Cmd/Ctrl+E ) and press 1 - 9 Things to try Load the Water example Hover an atom to see its info Press Space to make the molecule spin, then - / = to change the speed Rotate the camera and stop: watch the image get smoother Download a molecule as .sdf (for example the Caffeine one from PubChem) and open it Thank you Just a little thank you ❤️ (Everything you need is probably in the README.md)...
