Devlogs:
Devlog #1 I am trying to make a 24-inch-tall mini vending machine. I started off making the design on paper I decided i was going to use a razberry pi 6 servos and one of those things that connects a ton of servos. I ordered all my parts and was off. I donβt really know how to make stuff or even code in python so this will be an adventure (; I started by figuring out what to code on and it took me a whopping 5 hours to get vs code to work with hackatime. first, I gave Hackatime all my personal info and then it told me to use PowerShell. I had no idea what PowerShell was and had to use that to initialize hackatime. then it told me to make a GitHub account, so I had to figure out what GitHub is, but I persevered and finally got it to work. Now looking back on it I could have easily set it up in 30 minutes if I knew how too. Questions 1 what do you guys use to make 3d models of your designs 2 how do I change my profile picture it wonβt let me ):
Devlog #2 I am still trying to make a 24 in tall mini vending machine Today I made part the circuit in Circuit designer and I think it came out pretty good. I also made it so that when the vending machine is out of an item the servo resets so that you can refill it. I spent a ton of time trying to figure out how you can add to the angle of the servo before figuring out you can just add a + in front of it.
Devlog #3 So, I have not worked on my project in a while now because I got sick and other reasons, but I still found time to work on it. Firstly <β(is that a word?) I finished the circuit design and added buttons to my code. Then I checked my phone and my package had arrived! I had waited two whole weeks for these and they finally arrived. it was sprinkling outside but I thought nothing of it and started my journey to the mailbox with an umbrella and plastic bag. In the span of about 30 seconds the weather had changed from sprinkling to a thunderstorm with wind so strong my feet were almost lifted of the ground. I made it to my mailbox when I realized I had no idea which mailbox was mine though trial and error I had found ours I stuffed the mail in the bag and started the hike back home. this all happened while I was sick in a tee-shirt and shorts, but I got the parts which is all that matters.
Devlog-4 I Finally Got my raspberry pi to work and I am so happy it took so much time. At least thatβs the only time I will have to do that. I was so flipping confused I searched up the manual, but it was so confusing. Mostly because I had no idea what half the words meant but either way I Flipping did itπ₯³π₯³π₯³π₯³.
Devlog #5 I Finished the Tinker cad πππ Okay So, I have been planning on 3d printing the outside of the vending machine but then I realized I donβt have a 24-inch tall 3d printer. Devlogs:
First session down for the Speedcubing Algorithm Trainer. Spent the hour drafting the 3x3x3 model geometry and getting the individual cubies locked in before I start wiring up the rotation logic.
βWired up the generateWcaScramble function in TypeScript today for the Rubix Cube. Implemented the logic to check against the previous move and opposite faces, ensuring every 20-move sequence is fully WCA-compliant (no redundant moves like U Uβ or R L R). Linked it straight to the frontend UI.
Setting up the input framework for RubixC! Wrote a custom useKeyboard React hook to map standard virtual cubing keys (I, J, K, L, F, H) to U, D, L, R, F, B faces. Also wired up Shift for prime moves and Alt for double moves. The keys are successfully registering in the console, but they donβt actually turn the 3D model yet. That will come next...

Found a nice article explaining some key considerations for selecting a good charging dock, and the main points such as having a power rail, cooling, status indicators, and certain physical retention designs are good inspiration. I think I much better understand what I have to do to charge, but the STM32C0 doesnβt have USB-PD negotiation support, so Iβm switching to a STM32G0. Unfortunately itβs close to double the cost but itβs worth it for the power delivery and added I/O pins. OK rip the initial STM32G0 I found actually is too cheap it doesnβt have the UCPD peripheral thatβs required so I need another MCU (again). Also, I realized that the user shouldnβt need to replace the battery since it will recharge, so I can just directly use a 18650. I swapped back the battery holder in my schematic too. I came up with a method of charging things β the STM32G0 will request the total required voltage based on the number of devices it senses, and then the total voltage will be split into the separate voltages required for each part. I ran that by AI, and it turns out I need to use buck converters to step down the voltage which makes sense since parallel circuits will still have the same amount of voltage drop. I researched a bit and it turns out that USB 2.0 and 3.0 are pretty much equally slow for USB A ports, so I decided to go with a 2.0 one for the price. I figured out how the battery charging and load sharing system should work, thanks to these godsend docs , so I added some of the required components into the schematic page.
I worked on researching different elements behind USB-C portsβ pinouts, starting to wire the power parts of it. It made me look into power delivery and handshakes to negotiate different voltage and currents, but it seems that for simple phone charging the default will suffice. I also learned more about the differential pairs for RX/TX, though Iβm not quite sure what Iβll be using that for yet. I spent some time thinking and making sure I thoroughly understand what goes on with the pull up and pull down resistors for the CC (channel configuration) pins β based on the pull up/ pull down resistors and the voltages, you can tell whether the CC1 of the plug is connected to the CC1 of the socket (unflipped orientation) or the CC2 is. I verified that the VCONN stuff mentioned on this article does not actually apply to my PCB since the cable length is short. It seems like I covered everything for the USB research, so next session I can start wiring more!
I realized I donβt actually need USB3 because the STM32 doesnβt have SSRX/TX support, so I found a USB2 receptacle I could use instead. I also thought itβs probably better to use AA batteries because itβs more universal, so I found a 3 AA battery holder and added it as a battery in my schematic. However, I realized if I let the user replace the battery they might accidentally place a non-rechargeable battery, and also, since thereβs a recharging circuit, the battery shouldnβt ever die, so it might be better to use a 18650 after all. I added the new elements into my schematic, and shouldβve wired the charge management controller. I had to consult online sources to get a refresher on pull-up and pull-down resistors, as well as find the resistance for the STAT pin connectionβs pullups to the MCU. Hereβs my new schematic:
Realized itβs a bit hard to work on the charger mechanisms because Iβm rather unfamiliar with how the charging docks, power delivery and things like that work, so I looked into that first. Thatβs because the STM32G0 only has enough for 2 sets of CC pins so having my second USB port be a USB A instead of a USB C will allow a second device to charge at 5V without needing to negotiate anything. Ok I pretty much figured out what I have to do, and the next session, Iβll get to wiring everything I learnt today! Plus searching for valid buck converters that can provide variable amounts as controlled by the MCU...
