Just started coding, doesnt look too pretty yet but will keep working to make it better! Currently working throught a github commit problem.
Did quite a bit today. I fixed the top bar so its perfectly aligned at the top. I added the javascript for dragging windows and assigned classes and ids for elements. I did the styling for the windows. If you havent guessed by the name, im trying to go for a macos sort of look. Im really happy with how its looking. im going to next add close buttons and start adding more apps.
I didnt change much, added a close button and styled it. I have no idea why it took me so long but i was able to fix all problems. i now want to add more ‘apps’ maybe a notepad or calculator.
Today i began adding a new app (notepad). I created the icon and styled/formatted it, so when hovered over it glows yellow (for banana). Talking about bananas i changed the wallpaper to be a banana. I plan to later add a settings to toggle between the two wallpapers and css styles. but thats for later! Ill now finish the notepad app and work on some others.
Today i made the icon clickable. (so it opens the notes window). i didnt really like how in the guide you have to double click to open apps. I feel like i prefer just having a single click. I commented out the other code just in case i change my mind later. im gonna work on making the notepad functional.
I finished the notepad app (yay!). It follows the same sort of design as the welcome, i might change it later, but most likely once I move onto WebOS2. The editable text works, it does save but not when you reload the page, so I might fix that up later. My next step is to add one more app (probably a settings app) and then submit!
I added a new app! There is now a settings app for bananaOS. It currently doesnt have much, only the ability to change between the two wallpapers (like i mentioned previously). I plan to keep adding more settings features as I continue to build my webOs.
I didnt add too much today, just the foundations for a calendar app. i added a new window/icon with dragging and closing functions. to make the calendar, i will follow a tutorial (because i have no idea how!)
I finished the calendar app! It shows the current date (highlighted with a red circle). you can also see other months by clicking the arrows. im really happy with how it turned out, i might change a bit of the styling, maybe the colours? (not too sure). i plan to add another app, idk what yet but yea, thats for tomorrow!
I have began working on a new app… a browser! i havent done much, just worked on the main structure and began the css. im gonna use javascript to make it actually work, at this stage it will probably just redirect users to what they search in gooogle, but i might change that later.
Havent really done much in the past few days, I began the basic app and window structure for a music player, but i havent found a suitable tutorial yet. for now, i will first make a calculator app. i have already created the main layout and will begin coding the actual calculator tomorrow.
Ships:
Finally shipping it! This is my final version of bananaOS for WebOS1. It has currently has two apps and a welcome screen. I am really happy with how this turned out, I think it looks pretty good! I did find some parts challenging, especially the JavaScript (im getting there). I plan on adding more apps and making it better in WebOS2....

I spent the first couple days of this project working on the software before I do any of the hardware, since it’s a lot easier to design software first and then design the hardware around it. All i’ve gotten done so far is the ui system through pygame (the main menu shown in the picture below), a cool analog clock, and eontimer functionality. The next goals of the project are to implement Entralinked server functionality leveraging python’s subprocess library, implement PKHeX likely using PKHeX core since i have never programmed in C# and I don’t know how to link it to Python, and then creating a SQLite database of Pokemon information ripped off of the PokeAPI and implementing a Bulbapedia-style UI for the dex hopefully. Only after all of that stuff is implemented will I get started on the cool and fun part of the project, which is the hardware, lol Right now, EonTimer functionality is implemented by starting an http server and Chrome in kiosk mode to serve EonTimer, with a custom javascript button to provide the user an easy way to exit from it, while making sure the python program returns to the main menu as well. Custom CSS had to be created in order to ensure the website could fit on an 800x480 screen. I had been trying to design this under the assumption that the user wouldn’t have access to a mouse cursor of any kind, and I already made my python ui index based with no mouse control, but it doesn’t seem feasible and I will most likely have to implement some kind of joystick or trackpad or at least a touch screen for the user to be able to have mouse control. I think the project is coming out fine, although I really need to stop relying on LLM tools for coding assistance, it’s very embarrassing. Anyway, thanks for reading my first devlog."}]...

Building the Makefile and installation scripts wasn’t too difficult (especially compared to C cough cough ). Add a README and a MIT License, and we’re good to go Basically, the result is a functional biometric typing pattern authenticator that can be installed on Linux (instructions in the README). Currently I’ve got it set up to still fallback to the default PAM (just in case yk), but it is possible to set it as the sole PAM if you want to (see the experimental section of the README). Hi all. This project is called beatLock, which is a PAM (pluggable authentication module) for Linux that uses keystroke dynamics as a form of biometric authentication when you enter your passwords. I wanted to create a way to make passwords more secure for older machines that don’t have fingerprint ID hardware. If you have any suggestions on how I can improve it, please let me know :) (Note: the screenshot below is just the web demo, as there isn’t much to show in terms of UI for the final product)...

I’ve been working on creating a bedrockR installer in C#, this will be cross-platform, and it will be released with each version, handling installing, and i also might add a way to run it without installing
it took a long time, but i finally figured out how to style the ui, and i recreated the bedrockR style. (the versions page will be fixed soon)
Im back to working on this, stopped using visual studio because it was horrible, now im using Jetbrains Rider. Ive implemented some methods to get releases from the github, so now im gonna implement them.
Progress is going faster than before now that im using Rider now, I have made an API for getting the versions, instead of using the latest.json file in the github, and now im using it in the installer, and next hotfix i’ll use it for bedrockR updating. Oh and bedrockR 1.3.1 is finally out now… i guess i forgot to upload the release assets when i published it…

devlog 2, again i kinda forgot to mention this… but im completely redoing the resource system…. oh wait i already did yea i thought i said this last devlog, but cleaned more code, and redid most of the program again. Resources instead of saving to one json file with the files, now save in a structured directory system, that you can see in the screenshot. (its actually a full workspace, but you get the idea.) Right now, you can’t convert older workspaces to these new resource system one, but thatll be worked on later. Time to do some ui! (also i did more code cleaning, and i renamed a ton of stuff)

SPI’d together into shit. an 8x8 LED matrix controlled by a MAX7219. currently adding an NFC read/writer an planning to add wireless, a couple programmable LED’s and buttons. stay tuned.
Finished the schematic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YIPPIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! god this took so fucking long i ended up just scrapping wireless and instead going with ethernet. i did add a neopixel button and a 6-pin JST connector for whatever your heart desires. hey, 30 GPIO, 8 of which are ADC, isnt bad....

First devlog of berryOS! This is part of the webOS mission, however I am already pretty experienced in web devving so I kinda improvised on some stuff. I got an app dock, windows, topbar, time and a background!
Sigh….. I got bored I hate vanilla html and javascript, so…. I switched my webOS entirely to SvelteKit. This change should help me add components easier, also can add better stuff, I have also switched from base CSS to TailwindCSS, which is what I’m more used to. What I plan on doing is making every app its own svelte page, making it really easy to add apps. Overall nothing changed for now, I just spent the time porting over to SvelteKit.
Not much was doen apart from porting the gh pages to SvelteKit Was done by making a deploy.yml workflow that builds the website and deploys it to GitHub Pages. Next plan of action is cleaning up desktop to make it more pleasing on the eyes
So, A LOT of time was spent on this, a lot more than I anticipated. Firstly, I added a new settings app (which currently only has like one setting) that uses shadcn’s components for switches, buttons, sliders, etc. This was because I did NOT want to make my own components from scratch. Quick look at the docs, I added my necessary components, and CSS theming. I had a slight issue with setting raw CSS variables on .dark blocks weren’t syncing up properly with unedited shadcn svelte components due to Tailwind’s V4 theme compiler rules. Overall, pretty happy with this session, as now I can seamlessly add settings, add components, app, and all. The new task is to clean up the desktop, making it more visually appealing to the eyes.
Simple stuff this time around, just made the desktop look more like macOS, will probably edit though so it doesn’t look TOO similar. Will add the ability to change dark/light mode and background next!
(flashbang warning) Light mode! Changes CSS values to respect the theme detection, also tries auto detect light/dark mode based on browser settings. Oh yes also changed up the topbar to look better (looks alot more like macOS now which I may change in the future.)
Alt tabbing (sort of). A lot of this time was spent refactoring the window system to use a windows object. Also Alt + tab is currently slightly broken, as it does not yet show a window preview, as well as not properly focusing the chosen window, however this is something I will tackle later on, as I plan on adding custom wallpaper support now.
Custom desktop and accent colors! I added a modular color picker component in the Personalization settings panel. Clicking a preset or using the native eye-dropper custom color tool instantly updates buttons, icons, switches, and highlights across the entire OS. I also implemented a FileReader data-stream pipeline. Users can upload any .jpg, .png, or .webp file from their local machine, converting it to a base64 string to update the active desktop background immediately.
