It allows you to detect universal key presses. What better way to play with it than make it play clicking sounds! So once again, I want to make something lightweight, so I’m using tkinter for the GUI. Right now, I have the basic function of it worked out. You press a key and a sound comes out. Things I’m a little proud of Detecting when a key has already been pressed Pynput still detects a key is pressed even when it’s being held down. I don’t want a sound to be played over and over just because a key is held down. To solve this, I added a list named keys_pressed . Basically, how this works is that whenever a key is pressed, that key is added to the list through keys_pressed.append(key) and once the key is detected to be released, we remove that key by running keys_pressed.remove(key) . However, special function keys, like CTRL and ALT need to be converted to match the alphanumeric keys. Playing the sounds At first, I tested using the playsound3 library. However, it made the sounds EXTREMELY delayed. That’s because the playsound library stops everything else in your script to play the sound. That’s not what I wanted, so I used the pygame library. For some reason, mixer wasn’t working so I resorted to using the pygame-ce version (I’m too lazy to find the real issue). Anyway, it was much faster, and I also converted to using .wav files. However, when typing fast, some sounds were still not playing. I fixed this by making each sound play in a different channel, so the sounds wouldn’t cover each other up. What’s next? What I want to work on next is the GUI. I want to add a feature where users can easily switch between sounds. Right now, I have 4 different keyboard sounds, but to switch between them, you have to go into the code and find the variable called key_sound (ayo the name of the project!!) and set it to the file path. I’m gonna add buttons so it becomes an easy user experience."}]...

I started out by drafting a layout for something that I would feel comfortable using in an online keyboard editor that I had previously used for another hackpad project. After this I had to get everything into kiCad and I tried out a couple different plugins to help with wiring since there was a LOT of keys but none of them completely helped so in the end I had to wire about half the board to clear the about ~1000 errors (something that half occured from the plugins, half from me using the wrong footprint in the final pcb. In total there is about 158 keys on this keyboard with the main standouts being an extra macropad on the left side as well as an extra function row (“Im gonna press the F25 key”) All I have left to do is make the case, set up the repository correctly and do the gerbers and this will be ready to ship!"}]...

Devlogs:
Version 1, completed guide and added a picture command using thecatapi
Hopefully fixed some of the issues with the bot running and added an incomplete feature, random breed, which will hopefully be done soon
Finished /kittybot-randombreed alongside general UI changes, overall happy with my first project
The bot is done! Many avilable commands I forgot to ship in the end so consider this a last devlog! KittyBot may return in a HC event near you…
Fix to the bot where CatAPI now needs an API key to be able to find a cat breed
Ships:
I made a basic bot as an entry into Stardance. What was the most difficult was coding the image uploading feature; which I had help with from AI, that told me to have text accompanying my image.
Finished the KittyBot, a Slack bot that runs 24/7 and allows users to use different commands to find different cat pictures, breeds with information, etc....

DEVLOG #1!!! today i started a NEW project called kittybytes!! a file hosting service built for felines
DEVLOG #2!!!!! DISCORD EMBEDS YAYAYA! kittybytes file links now show proper Discord embeds how does it work? currently, kittybytes’ backend detects if the user agent is discord’s crawler. if it is, it adds open graph tags in the <head> of the HTML note: i logged an hour of work but i stopped using github codespaces so this devlog says 0h 22m instead of 54m Commits original update patch update because the first one didnt embed properly
DEVLOG #3!!!!! DATABASES AND PRIVATE FILES YAYAYA! kittybytes has an actual database now!!!! files can finally have metadata instead of just being thrown into a folder and forgotten about what changed? i used sqlite to store metadata about uploaded files, including: the original filename the generated file id the stored filename the file type and size when it was uploaded who uploaded it whether the file is private (in the future i will add file descriptions, etc) files also have their own proper pages now instead of mounted a directory!! /files/{file_id}
DEVLOG #4!!! ALOT OF STUFF 👀👀 patch notes: new 20 megabyte file limit for large uploads progress bar for webpage file expiries (files get deleted after a set date and time) new file description text area on website! the problem i have 0 ideas where i should host this project, not much providers have lengthy persistent storage, the best free ones i could find is: google cloud platform oracle free tier pella.app wispbyte fps.ms “why couldnt you use these?” GCP requires a credit card for billing and a verification fee oracle free tier also needs a credit card plus theres a binding agreement that ive heard of the owner of pella.app abandoned it you get only 1gb for wispbyte and fps.ms “why couldnt you have used a free vps and store files on an object storage service” well isnt file storage the entire purpose of my app? in conclusion, my discord dms are open for ideas on hosting so that i can ship my app, @eelmo (you can click on this link to add me)
DEVLOG #5 YAYAYAYYA!!!! MY FILES PAGE + FIXED THE VIEW/DOWNLOAD COUNTS THAT NEVER WORKED AND I GOT MY WEBSITE ON A DOMAIN AND VPS patch notes: added a /my-files page so you can see everything you’ve uploaded view counts and download counts actually increment now because i previously just added it to the database and called it a day file.html has a download button now instead of having to right click the raw link new launch.json so anyone can spin up kittybytes + a cloudflare quick tunnel locally with one click (if you have vscode) new css frame mogs the old one my files page added a proper /my-files route that pulls everything tied to your uploader_id cookie and shows it in a list. homepage now shows a “my files” link if you’ve uploaded anything before local dev setup also added a .vscode/launch.json that starts uvicorn + a cloudflare quick tunnel together and auto opens the tunnel url when its ready. if anyone wants to test kittybytes locally or self host their own version they can just hit run 🥹 Commits original commit patch commit — download button was literally linking to the string “download_url” instead of the actual url lol
DEVLOG #6!!!!!! MAJOR CSS OVERHAUL!! so, this is my last update before i ship, its nothing much, but it DOES make the website 100% BETTER! I will be updating this in the future!
