Devlogs:
Started and added parts to schematic.
I finally finalized the components that I want in my keyboard, and am gonna try to finish my footprints next time.
I finally moved on from the schematicing of things and am now at the pcbing part. I am trying to use a keyboard plugin to organize the keys, but I am having some trouble with the switches and diodes not matching up too well. Thats for next time!
Things are starting to shape up a little bit with my keyboard. I am so far avoiding routing since I know that is gonna take so long, but I have my layout down and pretty much only need to start routing it.
Rename it to daisboard 75, since it is a 75% keyboard. I added the 3d files of everything, so now it looks decent in 3d view. I still have not started routing sadly, again, I will do that later. I pretty much only need to route, its gonna be so painful with the keyswitches and led’s underneath.
I do not like routing. I decided to start routing first with my leds on the back of the pcb, since I’ll mostly have the front pcb have key switch wires. Everything just seems so messy right now. I also think I need a place for the battery, which I added in the pcb as you can see, but I am not entirely sure it is meant to be there.
I am so close to finishing routing now. I am currently still wondering how I am gonna put my battery in, since some people put a place in their pcb and some do not. I also need to start thinking about how big I want my pcb to be around my components and everything. So far, I just need to finish routing and then make the keyboard case!
I finished the routing! Yay that took so long. Keyboard is almost complete. But, I have so many errors I will need to sort out later. That is a ton of errors. I’ve also been looking at keyboard mounting methods, and am leaning towards top mount or bottom mount.
YAY, I sorted out most of the errors (some I just decided that the clearance was enough argh), and I have added mounting holes for the soon to be designed case! I still have not decided between either top mount or bottom mount, but so far, either would work with my mounting holes. The plate generating is gonna be a lot harder, since I moved my keys around after I used the kcbplacer plugin.
I had some trouble with the oled screen schematicing, since I just realized that it needed to connect to a specific gpio pin, which took a while to reroute and everything since I exported it all already. I am also still wondering how my oled screen will stay up, since its only soldered on one side. I also had to adjust my plate (and am still in the process as you can tell) since I moved the keys a little bit while editing the pcb. I still need to add the place for the slide potentiometer and switich and rotary encoder. I also need to find a way to place my battery, since this is gonna be a bluetooth connectable keyboard.
I finished the plate of my keyboard! I still need to add mounting holes for when I am going attach the pcb and everything to the actual keyboard. I decided on using a white, pastel yellow, and mint green color scheme for the actual casing. I am also thinking about having a case that can fold over and protect the keyboard for travel and things. But so far, I added the components in and am gonna start casing soon!
Fusion is sooooo confusing. I added screws to my design which are still uploading and added an area for attachments to be made. I have chosen a top mount way to attach the plate, pcb, and case. I am mostly trying to find a way to make my keyboard look neat and well done.
I finally got the hole and back casing aligned, so that it will fit somewhat well and will be stable once the screw is in there. I am still not too sure how I am gonna attach the keyboard, I am thinking of heat inserts since I used it for my macropad.
I do not like fusion, its so complicated for the simplest things. I added more holes for the heat inserts to go, and plan on using m3x10 for the screws. I also need to figure out how to reflect these holes to the other side because I do not want to do it over again cause it takes so long.
I have finished the bottom casing, its at a slight angle so the keyboard is tilted towards the user! I have started adding keycaps, and I plan on using cherry keycaps, like with the custom slants as well (r1,2,3,4). The holes and areas are all for heat inserts to attach and I am excited to finish the top casing and start adding fun details!
Today I worked on getting the usb thingy to be able to connected and look kinda nice. I also added a ton of holes for the screws and inserts that will be added for the keyboard during assembly. Since I am using a bottom mount, the screw first comes from the top to connect to the insert at the bottom (ex the left one), and I left space for the head when its screwed in as well. And the right one shows how the plate and everything is connected to the bottom casing, with the insert at the top, and leaving room for the head to not interfere with the bottom of the keyboard as well.
Top casing is getting polished and is still in progress. My drawings are so cooked for it. I also added the slight area in the rotary encoder that cleans it up a little bit, I just need to add sections of casing to the xiao microcontroller, the oled, and the switches.

Figured out how to read a digital elevation model with python
Just discovered this nice tool called WhiteBoxTools, and was also able to find its user manual! Now I won’t need to process terrain from scratch, and instead get I can all the data I’m looking for without reinventing the wheel.
Writing a pdf devlog for my project!
Finally able to find bowl-like depressions now
Making some minor changes so my github before posting my project!
Update on compilation: Well, a lot of stuff happened. I can’t really keep my computer running non stop all day and night, so I was resorting to suspending the laptop so runtime would keep frozen in RAM. But today, after a week of running the program and almost halfway left, I woke up to find the computer out of battery (probably it kept running in suspend mode and just died). That was quite devastating, but the only thing I could do was to update my code with checkpoints so that if that happens again, I won’t need to run everything again like I’m about to do now. I took that chance to also fix some typos in my README and my github pages, so I guess I got something good out of this!
YEEEEAAAAH! I decided to try and create an executable for my script, and boy was hard. The problem was that major libraries like gdal and whitebox required a bunch of other system libraries to work. This means I had to try to get them into the executable, and let me tell ya: This took a lot of time. But finally, it works (i hope)! I will be posting the executable (linux only of course) on github later!
Another day and guess what: another feature! I added a new function to the code that takes in a “starting point” for basin compilation. What this does is, given a starting point integer provided by the user (call it S), it skips all basins with an ID lower than S. This is good ’cuz we can stop the code with control + C and later keep on where we left by choosing our last compiled basin as our starting point! I probably should have done this a long time ago instead of right know when I actually needed it, but hey: Better late than never am i right?
Alright, so new changes! Today I tried to make a DEMO for my project! Since the user is originally intended to provided topological files (that for demonstration purposes may not be available), I have also packaged inside the .sh file a DEMO version, that has its own very small dataset, so everyone can see the project in action even without the needed files.
Alright, so new changes to FLOWS! Basically what was happening was: Some HUGE basins showed up, and the program was exceeding my humble 8gb of RAM when trying to generate a diagnostic image (that also happened on cuts where there were thousands of basins). BUT after some tinkering, I discovered that I was doing some very heavy processes on image generation that were not necessary. So I adapted my code, and now a whole terrain cut of 160k square kilometers (about 39 million acres) can be processed without crashing!
Ships:
This is FLOWS. It is a program that takes in terrain data and water infiltration data and finds bowl-like depressions (or simply “basins”). Why is that useful: for each basin, water-height doesn’t change (for the same rainfall). This means we can pre-calculate various rainfall scenarios and store their results, so we can have a simple and quick way of estimating flood risk. Compilation was also made focusing on lower-end hardware, were we avoid feeding the entire data into the RAM, and instead partition the dataset in smart ways so we can make it all fit within our constrains!
Okay, so this is FLOWS part 2! This ship basically includes everything that my previous shit didn’t have, like a github page and an executable file with a DEMO on releases. I also took the chance to fix some bugs that came along the way, and implement changes that were needed while compilation evolved: Excessive RAM usage when generating images fixed (so far, we got to 160.000 km² without crashing - huge improvements) New starting point variable: Stop the code at any time and continue were you left: just type the basin id from where you want to start. Just finished the guide for the “Make a Slack Bot” mission, I liked it, but i feel like it was too easy, the guide said 1.5h but it only took me 20 minutes for the code and 10 minutes to make it live 24/7 on the Nest container
Well adding the AI part was easy, I used the HackClub AI API, I picked a free model because I don’t want every user of the bot to input their own API key, though that might be a cool idea for later updates, I placed a system instruction in the beginning of the prompt explaining to the AI model that it’s a slack bot so it doesn’t try to use tables or fancy formatting: SYSTEM INSTRUCTION: You are a slack bot, so follow slack formatting rules and markdown conventions when responding, no tables. The bot is now up and running and I’m trying to find extra features to add to increase the time on this project
Added /asb-whoami command that prints info about the bot and its developer Added /asb-quote command to print a random quote Updated README.md
