Devlogs:
Working on the opening page and Top bar
I added a Div to make everything central. I also added a background image to the whole thing along with a bar on top, showing the webite name and current time.
I made it so the middle box is draggable around the screen. Took quite a bit of effort when all I needed to do was remove the margin around the div.
I made it so the main page can open and close, I also added a notes style app with the ability to open and close as well.
I added a to do app. Used some AI to fix some bugs in it.
I fixed the bug where you could only drag the windows by their headers, and the close button covered the whole are above it. Some AI use to solve some bugs.
Ships:
A basic WebOS. My first HTML project so it’s quite simple, but it works. Had some issues with bugs so had to use a little bit of AI to get some fixes, but tried to avoid it where possible....

I started the creation of an acutally helpful digital voice assistant: Aspera. The name comes from one of my favourite phrases “Ad Astra Per Aspera” (meaning something along the lines of To The Stars through Hardships). I noticed that almost every single voice assistant I’ve ebver uised has been either sluggish or useless. Right now, you have two options, Big corperate ones with lots of integrations, but slow EVERYTHING, or a small scale Llama model that you build yourself and pipe eveyrhting through home assistant. Both of those choices seem super bad for me! I wanted a voiece assistant that had maximum performence, whilenot comprimising on features, integrations, or polish. Enter Aspera. Aspera uses a custom and fully local Intent Engine, to figure out what the user is requesting. This intent engine runs using Fasttext, which infers it’s labels in 0.01ms - 0.5ms. My assistant takes advantage of this, and pipes it to various low-cost-no-comprimise security checks, using native android apis, and then runs the action. Unfortunately, I would have to run an Android Emulator inside of the demo website, so I will just provide an APK. Any android users will be able to instaloy install from it, however unappealing that may seem. NOTE: Aspera right now is VERY MUCH UNFINISHED. There are TONS of bugs and features to work out, and most systems, like the argument parser or device control aren’t even there yet, For now, all it can do is control media, tell you what song’s playing, tell the time, and tell the date. This is the baseline for my next creations, but I thinik it is interestingto see the speed, and how the idea has evolved over time throughout tall of the devlogs. Thanks for reading!", "repo": "https://github.com/Hengtime787/Atlas", "demo": "https://matthew.heng.org/atlas"}]...

Aspera (renamed from Atlas because it sounds better) is actually working. It has been for a while. I just worked out the security systems and some argument engine develpment that will not be done before stardance, so I’m going to ship it. The intent engine needs a little more tuning for requests, but media requestrs seem to work reparkabley well as well as device acontrol requests. Maybe some of you will review it for the ship! Thanks for reading!"}, {"post_id": 71026, "ts": "2026-09-20T07:03:52Z", "hours": 2.4656, "text": "Hi Everyone! Finally decided on a real pipeline for Atlas’ intent engine. I wrote off fasttext before for being unintelligent. Fasttext doesn’t know real language like that audio and sound are related to each other. MiniLM or SnipsNLU might, but they would be so heavy. The end goal of Atlas is to be able to run on not just iOS, Android, and Linux, but also very low end linux devices like a first gen Raspberry Pi Zero. The intent engine stage should not be any source of bottlenecks or slowness. Fasttext is doing quite well. It kept failing, but with more training data, parameters, and random flags in the training step, it’s not half bad! The only major problem that I’ll run into is with arguments. For example, when you say “What’s the time in Tokyo?”, it can figure out that you’re asking what the time is pretty fast. Hi Everyone! Today I migrated my workflow from VS Code (Code -OSS) to Android Studio. It makes a lot of the integrations with other things, like the wake word detector a lot easier, for my digital voice assistant, Atlas (hopefully Jarvis level speed and helpfulness). Hey everyone! Atlas is one step closer to it’s prototype release. Basically, since it’s designed to first roll out as an Android app (then a linux version later with KMP), and I want to get something tangible to ship as a prototype for the end of stardance, I’m making a version of Atlas that doesn’t have a comprehensive or accurate intent engine (for prototype it will just use keywords), doesn’t have any integrations (like Google Maps, Weather, or any APIs). Hi everyone! Atlas – CLI Version’s framework is finished! Once I add in the actions to actually do things, it will start being useful. It’s really rough, and relies on specific keywords for this prototype, but it’s a good framework concept for later. At this rate, I may be able to finish the full project by the end of October! Hey everyone! Today, I tried using FastText (a local clasification model) as Atlas’ intent engine. It was pretty awesome seeing it actually kinda work! The setup is super easy, you just clone a repo, make a file, then run that file with a few args to load in your training data in a literal .txt file, and just test it there in the command line in literally under five minutes. FastText was looking like it would become Atlas’ intent engine, but unfortunatly, it’s kinda dumb, and I mean that in a very loving way. FastText doesn’t seem to know enough about language to be very confident or accurate in classifying sentances into back-end hooks. Given enough specifically equal training data (because too much data in one hook will make it be the most confident in that hook. Not exactly useful when “Play music” turns into AIRPLANE_ON), it could definitely work out, but for every single feature that i add in the future it would have to gen a GIANT list of examples, and even then, it woudln’t be great at something unpredictable. I also tried updating some app UI stuff, but going from HTML + CSS to Jetpack Compose is a wild ride. Anyhow, thanks for reading! ps– in the android studio screenshot, what am I even doing????
Hi Everyone! The problem is making sure that it passes along “Tokyo” as an argument (or entity as some call it), or else it will just completely fail. This step is hard, but keywords should be easier to sneak in if I am desparate. Keyword based intent is very very unreliable though, so I’ll have to see and do some more research on fasttext’s potential. For now, it’s quite nice. If you want to use fasttext yourself, you just clone a git repo, compile into a binary, feed it one file with your examples and intents, and watch it fail and fail until it doesn’t. Ps– it’s unlikely that an Atlas version will be completed during the duration of stardance, but I’ll try. Thanks for reading!
Big updates on my new voice assistant! Thanks for reading!
Ships:
Hey! Thanks for reading!...

(1st image is initial starting page, 2nd image is the loyalty timeline, 3rd image is an example trip in the webpage).
Devlog 2 (How did I just realize markdown works here 😭) Anyways , so things I added. Not really much, i’m kinda running out of ideas of what to add since the project has been mostly fleshed out so here are just cool things I thought to add: Modified Trip Render Logic Issue: Used to keep shifting a reference frame along a flattened list of segments Effect: If trips are added in a certain way, it can put marker rendering at far distances on the map Solution: Changed to localize on origin of each trip, leading to renderings to center around 1 map (Refer to Pic 1) Expanded map view on loyalty timeline Just zooms out on all trips Kinda looks cool :) (Refer to Pic 1) Airport Website/Wikipedia Links you to the airports webpage when clicking on its tooltip Random renaming Made some names more consistent, reduced unneeded files
Devlog #3 - the final one? Hi, so I’ve been working on minor stuff. added a light mode my eyes hurt looking at this T_T pic 1 fixed weird rending issue with trans-pacific flights added the LP bonus tiers from AA website pic 2 (yes I turned dark mode back on) To be honest, this is as much as I can think of, I really don’t want the scope of this project to get too far fetched with trip optimization as it’s supposed to be a cool looking tool, not really a planning agent. Probably my next project will be creating a personal website.
Ships:
I made a flask app that is currently being hosted on vercel that calculates loyalty points with American Airlines. It is supposed to be better than the other options out there by providing a cleaner, more intuitive UI, with new features with a timeline showing status progression. What was challenging with this was kinda just figuring out the web-end of it. I normally only code backend stuff so this is one of the few times where I had to work on a full frontend without getting someone else to help me. (I did use AI to assist me with this task though). In the end, I did persevere and I’m appreciative of the end result I have created. Picture 1 shows the map view of the website, and Picture 2 shows the loyalty timeline....
