My analyzer works by using 19 communication signals which include politeness, warmth , friendliness, warmth , frustration , hostility , pressure , urgency , blame and so on and the way this works is by using context aware scoring so it doesn’t simply look for keywords but rather it looks around a phrase to see if its being negated , hedged , used in a conditional way , quoted and so on . So for negation handling, words such as not ,never , can’t , don’t etc reduce the strength of the detected signal . For hedging detection words or phrases such as “maybe” “i guess” “probably” lower the certainty . Detecting conditionals such as “if” “when” “could” and so on can affect the confidence of interpretation. Also there is signal specific context where for instance hostility to yourself is treated as different form hostility to others and things like blame need evidence of a target , things like sarcasm should get special treatment as positive words can be used sarcastically and polite wording can be downgraded if the surrounding text seems sarcastic , to detect intensity we use indicators like multiple occurrences of “!” or “?” or strong words like “absolutely” or “totally” etc . Formality detection is done by categorizing words like “furthermore” , “respectfully” etc into formal and words like “yo” , “gonna” , “wanna” etc as casual and thus finally gives us a confidence score based on the number of patterns found , message length and contextual cues . Everything is saved in your browser, so there are no accounts and no database. What I am proud of I’m proud of getting the news card working. The API blocked browser requests, so I moved the fetching into a private server endpoint. I also had to deal with a rate limit and with stories that had no images, which I solved with caching and a fallback to older stories. Hso Title: Hsoj-Tab by @Hsoj | Stardance
Devlogs:
Hsoj-Tab Devlog What I built I wanted a new-tab page that looks like the rest of my site instead of a generic dashboard, so I built Hsoj-Tab: a clock, a search bar, news, shortcuts, and a todo list. What was challenging The news card gave me the most trouble. CORS: calling the news API from the browser fails, and the key would be exposed anyway. I moved the call into a SvelteKit +server.ts endpoint that reads the key from a private env var. No images: the list endpoint only returns titles, publishers, and timestamps. To get a thumbnail and some text, the server fetches the details of each story. Try it! Visit Hsoj-Tab That’s all. Cheers!

Shipping Hsoj-Tab What I made Hsoj-Tab is a new-tab page that looks like my personal site. It has a 12-hour clock, a search bar that switches between Google, DuckDuckGo, and Bing, a rotating card of Philippine headlines, shortcuts with auto-fetched favicons, and a todo list. I’m also happy that it feels like part of my site rather than a generic dashboard. It has the same mono font, square borders, and > TITLE_ headers as my personal site. Try It! Visit Hsoj-Tab...
