Figuring out what exactly to add to a project when I’m just learning about the tools is quite hard. It took me longer than I like to admit to come up with the seemingly random feature of just providing a random NWS alert.
Learning more about how Slack bots work as someone who’s worked on a Discord bot or few has been really interesting. Today I learned how to use blocks, buttons, modals and more. Making improvements to the random NWS alert command utilizing them makes me much more proud of it. (I also added a random bunny image command 🐇)
I’ve added a help command to Starslack, showing all available commands and what they do. Starslack also now has a channel on the Hack Club Slack.

First devlog for this project. Our software skills are highly underdeveloped, so hopefully the hardware side will make up for it. This is a hackpad with the ability to detect the mositure levels, and air temp.(Mainly for plants). Right now i am in the process of creating the box for the hackpad. The rough print will be running on prayers. :)
Almost done with polishing our smart garden device. the majority of this project will be in firmware. The pcb, and the case are done, it just needs the finishing touches. I started adding fillets everywhere because I did not at all like the square edges.
Today we had a really good, and productive day. We were able to finish our PCB, and Gerber files, we added mounting holes(Almost forget this). I started working on the firmware, and added a new function where the smart garden has the ability to change plant profiles so that it can give you recommendations on how to improve your plants health. soon there should be a plant database, but in the picture is what I added so far just as a tester class. Next steps are for the hardware library integration, and some last minute polishing.
Taking a quick break from coding, and oh my days. I’ve only learned coding on java at a basic level and this python langauge is like a whole new world. Though all the logic is mine just to clarify, AI is just to help me translate the more complex code.
So quick update….. WEE HAVE FINISHED THE FIRMWARE. There can’t be much testing to do till the hardware arrives. We are pretty much set with the design, pcb, and now the code. Only thing left is to clean up the repo, and polish that github. This python is fun though, its like a lazy verison of java which is making life so much easier. next update will most likely be the submission! I’m done (almost, my assembled-model.step is having a bit of issues) ! I’m making this devlog so that time isn’t lost when I ship it, you can find the GitHub link here: https://github.com/kelvindabest273/LED-Micropad
Ships:
This is a macropad that has 3 keys (Num Lock, Caps Lock, and Scroll Lock), 3 LED indicators for the aforementioned, and a 0.91 inch 128x32 OLED screen that also, you guessed it, shows the status of aforementioned keys! I found making the QMK firmware really challenging, I did use some AI for that. I’m proud of the case, I feel like it looks really good. I exported the assembled-model.step file and after viewing it again, the PCB seems to be missing. I’m not sure why this is but if this is happening to you then please let me know, I will try to fix that....
