Basically I started with the schematic, which was 80% easy and 20% crazy rabbit-hole cuz I decided I really want the possibility to make this battery powered and to monitor the battery level. Afterwards I moved on to the PCB and routing, which didn’t take too long but I ended up spending wayyy too long on the silkscreen and finding a nice font and all. Anyways, I’m really happy with how it turned out, so it’s worth the 4-5 ish hours I put into it :) CAD was awful at first. I was using FreeCAD, which is an awful experience imo (0 stars, would not recommend). Thankfully @EMT (formerly babydriver) saved me and showed me the joys of Onshape. I managed to get like 90% of the CAD done in about an hour and a half, which was awesome. I forget to record it with Lapse though 😭 There’s not really much more to say about the CAD, except maybe that I spent wayyy too long trying to make it perfectly symmetrical for the display so that it looks nice. Finally for the firmware I used C++ with Platform IO in VS Code (yes I started Hackatime this time). It’s currently a first draft, as I need to have the parts to do some testing before I can continue. However as of now it supports going into deep sleep (safely hopefully), being woken by a keypress, and drawing a date, time, and battery percentage to the TFT display. I’m planning to add alarms, time sync over Wi-Fi, alarms, 12H-24H time toggling, and a little config over an AP (probably just as a website). Again though, I’m really stuck right now cuz of the charlieplexing (kind of shot myself in the foot lol). I understand the theory and all, but I just need to see it before I can work with it. Anyways, that’s all for now. If anyone has any feedback that would be appreciated. If not, then thanks for reading this far and see y’all in the next one :)"}]...

Devlogs:
I am only doing a little bit of code today since I am not feeling well but I did finish the HTML and started the CSS. Here is the background color I will use.
This is what I have so far. I plan on resizing it and all but I am mostly done with the css and js but I need to find a audio sound and for some reason pixabay is not letting me download so i have to do some research to find a sound.
I did it. I resizing it, added more circles, and I found a downloaded able but I am not done yet I plan on adding more to this pop-it, but it is fully works. And the sound could be loud so keep that in mind cause I know it is loud for me and I will see if I can find an alternative popping sound for this.
I added a button that changes the background color each time it is clicked and I am thinking of adding more and I have something in mind but I will not say until its done.
I added a counter, so every time the circles are popped and unpopped the counter will go up.
Ships:
This is a simple pop-it where users will click on the circles and each time they are clicked and unclicked it will make a popping sound. There is also a button to change the background color. I just hope in the future I can add more to this....

The hardest part by far was trying to figure out why 2 of my switches weren’t working, the 7th and 6th ones, and it was because the layout in the .json and keymap were facing up when they shouldve been facing right which messed up one of the matrix. It got even more confusing because I bridged the pin that was responsible for switch 7 and it output the right key but the switch itself did not making me think the switch was faulty. Surprisingly it only took 2 iterations of the case to get one that worked, on the first case the holes that “sandwiched” the case and top plate together were too small, as well as the USB port on the microcontroller being too tall and sticking out so that the top plate wouldn’t sit flat, lastly the key cutouts were too small which also stopped the top sitting flat. To fix all of those I increased the height of the case by 3mm and the hole diameter from 3.1 to 3.4mm which was literally perfect because the screws slid in very comfortably, lastly I added a cutout for the USB port and enlarged the cutouts for the keys by 1mm. But as a result of making the case taller I forgot to account for the extra space underneath the PCB which luckily was very easy to fix by cutting a rectangle of foam and screwing the top plate and PCB on top of it so that the PCB was hard up against the top plate and the keys could be pressed all of the way down, whereas before they were too low and only went about halfway.", "repo": "https://github.com/Alloy-MVP/Lily-pad", "demo": ""}]...

Finally finished the PCB (this is not very beginner friendly…)
Made a second better version of the PCB with a rotary encoder and the OLED screen added, also made the case in fusion 360.
V1 of the case Cad changes: Changed the bottom where the nuts screw onto the bolts to have an inset, so that when its sitting flat the nuts dont stick out of the base and make it sit unevenly. Also increased the size of the holes to 3.1mm because im going to sandwich them together. THE PROBLEMS: Firstly the 3.1mm is NOT enough for the screws to fit so next devlog im going to increase them to 3.3mm. Secondly as shown in the photo, the usb port on the microcontroller is too high and stops the lid from sitting flat down. It doesnt really matter anyway since the key cutouts are also too small so they need to be enlarged.
V2 of the case (fluked it) Cad Changes: Changed the hole diameters to be 3.4mm which somehow fits perfectly, extended the height of the walls by 3mm and therefore also increased the depth of the nut inserts to account for that. Also added a cutout for the USB since it sat too high and increased the switch cutouts by 1mm on all sides so it sits at the lowest point. Next steps: So I kind of only soldered the 2 outer pins on the OLED screen and forgot to do the inner 2 and I can’t access a soldering iron until after stardance ends, it just means that the next devlog (that will be about the firmware) wont include the screen.
Basic QMK Firmware FINALLY got all of the keys and encoder working!!! The problems Firstly the easiest one; the rotatory encoders inputs were reversed, when turning clockwise it would decrease the volume instead of increasing and vice versa for anticlockwise. Secondly the hardest part, basically my layout in the .json and keymap was looking for key 7 at the right middle instead of right bottom which made keys 7 and 6 both not respond. The confusing part was that bridging the column to the diodes would give me an output which made me think the switches were faulty but the orientation of the layout was just wrong.
Ships:
I made a 7 key configurable macropad, currently the keys are set to a,b,c,d,e,f,g but its very easy to change them to other keys. Finished up my PCB for my alarm clock! It uses 6 switches in a matrix, a buzzer, and the TFT Screen. It was pretty fun making it, and I plan to add a few more fun silkscreen images on the PCB (so far there’s a squirrel).
Finished up the CAD Case! I worked on my case, polishing it, and making it smooth. In my design, the screen is raised up and at the back of my clock. I also added some text at the front and raised the case up, and added circular legs.
