Devlogs:
Built a Slack bot using Node.js and the @slack /bolt framework with Socket Mode — no public server needed! The bot runs in the Hack Club workspace and supports 5 slash commands: /sirius-hello (motivational greetings), /sirius-weather (live weather via wttr.in), /sirius-fact (random fun facts), /sirius-calc (safe math evaluator), and /sirius-8ball (magic 8-ball). Set up the GitHub repo and got the bot connected and running locally. Next step: deploy to Hack Club Nest for 24/7 uptime!
Verified the deployed Sirius Bot is still online in #sirius-bot-demo by running /sirius-hello and receiving a live reply. While reviewing /sirius-calc, I found that ^ was being interpreted as JavaScript bitwise XOR, so 2 ^ 3 returned 1 instead of 8. I replaced the Function-based evaluator with a small safe expression parser, fixed ^ to mean exponentiation, and added sqrt(…) support. I also added Node test coverage for precedence, powers, square roots, unsafe input, negative roots, and division by zero; all 4 test groups pass. Example: /sirius-calc sqrt(81) + 2 ^ 3 now returns 17.

I spent the first couple days of this project working on the software before I do any of the hardware, since it’s a lot easier to design software first and then design the hardware around it. All i’ve gotten done so far is the ui system through pygame (the main menu shown in the picture below), a cool analog clock, and eontimer functionality. The next goals of the project are to implement Entralinked server functionality leveraging python’s subprocess library, implement PKHeX likely using PKHeX core since i have never programmed in C# and I don’t know how to link it to Python, and then creating a SQLite database of Pokemon information ripped off of the PokeAPI and implementing a Bulbapedia-style UI for the dex hopefully. Only after all of that stuff is implemented will I get started on the cool and fun part of the project, which is the hardware, lol Right now, EonTimer functionality is implemented by starting an http server and Chrome in kiosk mode to serve EonTimer, with a custom javascript button to provide the user an easy way to exit from it, while making sure the python program returns to the main menu as well. Custom CSS had to be created in order to ensure the website could fit on an 800x480 screen. I had been trying to design this under the assumption that the user wouldn’t have access to a mouse cursor of any kind, and I already made my python ui index based with no mouse control, but it doesn’t seem feasible and I will most likely have to implement some kind of joystick or trackpad or at least a touch screen for the user to be able to have mouse control. I think the project is coming out fine, although I really need to stop relying on LLM tools for coding assistance, it’s very embarrassing. Anyway, thanks for reading my first devlog."}]...

I spent most of this devlog time making the core 3 parts and then working on the sun (which will show the month when you rotate the earth around it) I got a bit confused around the start as I did not go into this with much of a plan as to how it would work and was overcomplicating it by trying to use gears somehow. One of the things I am currently trying to fight is gravity, if you try to place the earth in the top position it will want to fall. To combat this I have added magnets, and will add an alternative option of using a few pins to hold it in place (so it can be fully 3d printed) I haven’t put much attention into making it look pretty, which I really want to do since I think if I do this right it will look sick, but I hope to get to do that soon. (I accidently had a plugin on from a ysws that used onshape so the hours are over-counted by an hour & 16 mins 🙏, I’m putting it here to make sure I remember to mention to cut those hours when I ship)"}]...

Im working on a gif to ascii art converter in rust. user can upload any gif they want and choose some options how they want to get converted. then it can play the gif as ascii or save at a prescribed output dir
ok, so finally it works now i have added only one algo and it edge detection. i wanted to start from and easy algo but f*ck it. it’s work but i didn’t add a way to output it to gif or anything.
it’s been such a long time since i have worked on this project i been wanting to add some feature like output to gif and a web ui using wasm so it’s finaly here i have add the abiltiy to save the output ascii to a gif file and i have also add a web version with rust wasm which is really fast but not as fast as when u install it in ur pc
Ships:
It’s a gif to ascii converter. it uses edge detection for more crisp ascii art, it automatically support color but if u wanna turn them off just use color flag . i have also added multiple txt support you can choose as per ur preference. for installation just do cargo install rustisay that’s it,
add the ability to use it in web instead of downloading it even tho both option are available and added the ability to output the generated the gif and be able to save it localy try fixing some windows issuess but i dont have an access so i dont know...
