Phase 1: Core Architecture & Commands Instead of dealing with incoming HTTP webhooks (which require opening firewall ports or running reverse proxies like Ngrok), I opted for Slack Socket Mode. This creates a secure, bidirectional WebSocket connection directly from my application to Slack. I built out a solid suite of commands into index.js: /dsb-test: A quick ping/pong handshake test. /dsb-help: A clean command menu. /whoami: A utility that extracts the user’s Slack ID, username, and channel info from the incoming payload. /dsb-catfact & /dsb-joke: Live integrations that fetch data from external public APIs. Phase 2: The Deployment Battle (Hurdles Overcome) Moving the bot from my local machine to the remote Nest server container is where the real engineering happened. I ran into—and solved—several classic DevOps roadblocks: The Terminal Environment Trap Early on, I hit errors trying to run Linux commands (pkill, rm) because I had accidentally dropped out of my SSH session and was running them inside my local Windows Command Prompt. The Fix: Re-established a secure SSH handshake to target the remote Nest environment properly. The Nesting .env Path Bug Upon launching the bot on the server, it crashed with a fatal AppInitializationError claiming tokens were missing, even though I had created the .env file. I diagnosed that the repository structure had a duplicate inner folder, isolating the environment variables. The Fix: Consolidated the directory structure, moving the .env file to the outer root directory where node index.js was executing. Upgrading to Native Network Requests My initial API fetches threw module loading errors on the server due to dependency mismatches. The Fix: Stripped out heavy third-party HTTP clients and upgraded the /joke and /catfact architecture to use Node 24’s native fetch API. This made the code cleaner, lighter, and completely independent of external package bugs. Phase 3: Going 24/7 with Systemd To ensure the bot didn’t shut down when I closed my laptop or disconnected from SSH, I configured it as a system-wide background daemon using Linux’s systemd. Final Status The bot is officially 100% stable and live. Running systemctl status slackbot.service confirms a beautiful green active (running) status. Every single slash command resolves instantly with zero latency."}]...

Did the First tutorial + a bit More I followed the tutorial to see what they were talking about and what the point of the tutorial was. Then I went on my own direction after going through the whole tutorial to make this home screen. Idk what to do with it rn but if yall are reading this, maybe subscribe to my YT (Shaur1021)
Did Part 2 I made the top bar of the OS with working time and the name of the OS. Haven’t customized it too much yet. Will do that in the next devlog. Oh yeah, I also added a nice minecraft background
Finished part 3. Made code neater and also made the clsoe button a minecarft X. very fun
Finished Part 4 Made instacraft, instagram, but minecraft. It doesnt rlly work like insta tho. is more of a notes app still. Also had to photoshop for liek 30 mins to ge the logo of instacraft
Fixed the apps image working.
Ships:
I made MineOS, a minecraft operating system which works as a ad for my yt channel. The best part that I worked on, and was difficult and different from the guide is the Instagram to InstaCraft logo creation. Took me 30 mins to photoshop that. Must be an easier way but I like how it turned out
Fixed my webOS. Images werent working...

Devlogs:
To start this project, I made a simple API with FastAPI + Python. I can POST an ISBN code (the identification code, usually paired with a barcode, on the back of all books) to the API. In turn, the API uses the openlibrary.org database to get data on the book (title, author, etc.) and save it to a sqlite database.
Using React + Vite, I coded a small website that displays the information of any books I add to the database, sorted by status (“Currently Reading”, “Want to Read”, or “Finished”). In the future the barcode reader I make will be able to scan the ISBN codes and upload them to the FastAPI I made that adds the info of the book in question to the database. For now, I’m simulating that process using curl POST requests. My next thing to do for the website is revamp the CSS a bit and allow the user to make notes on a book to be saved to the database.
I added a new feature to the website – the user can now edit books. Edits are automatically saved to the backend database....
